Since some of the information presented in previous emails took place 2 years ago, we thought a timeline of events may be useful while also providing a fuller context of events over this time period. 6/23/11

Committee on Accreditation (COA) accepts Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Review Team Report Recommendation -- Accreditation with Probationary Stipulations.

9/19/11

Department meets with CTC Director to discuss issues with accreditation review and report, and retraction of withdrawal of credential programs. Email to “retract withdrawal of credential programs” sent to Dean Gonzalez by Teri Clark, Director of Professional Services, CTC. Oxy Administration decides against retraction. 10/6/11 & 10/7/11

Second CTC visit Report - Second CTC Outside visit with new team and new state consultant. Findings: meeting or beginning to meet standard areas not met in previous visit. Some standard elements (e.g., student teaching) not observed due to the early nature of the visit and will not be implemented until spring semester. See “Site Re-visit Report” at:

8/16/12

COA Final Meeting to accept Department’s final report including acknowledgement of TPA completers and “close out” letter to Oxy. By this acknowledgement, the COA accepts staff recommendation that all standards requested by CTC/COA have been met by Oxy. “Occidental College has a long and successful history of educator preparation in California. Should Occidental wish to pursue initial institutional approval once again, the Commission staff would be most willing to provide technical assistance, if requested. Thank you again for your cooperation and efforts over this past year.”

External Departmental Review

An external departmental review took place in the Fall 2012 semester. Team recommends beginning with the single subject STEM credential and development of urban education major. See “Deprt’l External Review Report (Nov. 12. 2012)” on department website

Educational Roundtables - List of participants & brief synopsis. See “Oxy Roundtables” at :

• President Veitch & Dean Gonzalez panelists were the 3 outside departmental review team members. The Education Department panelists encouraged return to credentialing and urban education major. Teri Clark (CTC Director of Professional Development), a panel member, encouraged Oxy to pursue credential programs and urban education major.

Student Interest Survey over two semesters –
