Dear {NAME}:

I’m writing because I need to ask for your help. As a long-time customer, you know the importance of our great Hispanic workers to our company’s ability to create and maintain your beautiful landscape.

Unfortunately, the recent immigration discussions and failure of the proposed legislation could create dire consequences for businesses like ours that hire guest workers from the H-2B Program, a federal work-visa program for legal, fully taxed seasonal workers. This program is only available for companies that can prove that there are no locally available workers for these seasonal positions. Although this program is expensive and administratively challenging, it provides a much-needed seasonal work force that is primarily used by small business.

The current law that allows us to employee these highly screened and legal seasonal workers has expired. Due to the recent sensitivity to immigration in general, we need your help to make sure that legal worker programs like this are renewed and expanded. We need as many of our supporters as possible to call Congressman {NAME OF LOCAL CONGRESSMAN} office at ______________________, Senator {NAME OF LOCAL SENATOR} office at _________________________, and Senator {NAME OF OTHER SENATOR} office at {FILL IN PHONE NUMBER}, and tell them you support the House and Senate bills entitled “Save Our Small and Seasonal Business Act of 2007” and ask them to become a Co-Sponsor of S. 988 in the U.S. Senate and H.R. 1843 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

We are also asking our supporters to write a very short letter to each of their elected officials office’s once more asking for their support of these bills. The fax numbers you will need are Congressman Kirk’s {FILL IN NUMBER}, Senator Durbin’s {FILL IN NUMBER} and Senator Obama’s {FILL IN NUMBER}. I’ve attached a sample letter for your use to add your information.

I want to sincerely thank you for supporting us in our effort to hire and employ legal, tax-paying employees that help us as an industry create and maintain the beautiful landscapes that make communities like Winnetka so special.

Sincerely,

James P. Martin, CLP

President
