INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

Business, Marketing and Finance

2012

Keeping up with Current Business Events is an important task for anyone studying business. Business students must always ask this very important question: How does the business and economic world affect me? Is there a relationship between the business events/people we are learning about and the state of the world today? Asking and answering this question forces us to consider how we live and learn as business consumers and workers.

To accomplish this, we are going to embark on a semester-long project to become knowledgeable about current events and what is happening in the world of business today. Every two weeks you will complete the following assignment:

1. Find and print out an interesting article about business news. The article must relate to an objective that we are learning in class. (See the Learning Objectives at the beginning of every chapter)

2. You will find articles from the following sources: Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Newsweek, Time, U.S. News and World Report, Economist, Business Week, etc.. You must turn in a copy of this article with your Current Event assignment. You may not use “Wikipedia.” If you are uncertain about a source, ask!

3. When you have found an article, you will (1) Read the Article. (2) Underline or highlight the vocabulary words and names (familiar and unfamiliar) and (3) be sure to look these words/names/terms up in your textbook to help you learn/reinforce the concept.

4. Create a document in Microsoft Word and place the following header at the top.

5. Format you paper with one inch margins and type your paragraphs so that they are left aligned. Use a 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font only and double space your paragraphs. Your paper should have the same appearance as the sample. If you have misplaced your sample, you may view one on the BMF homepage of your instructor’s website.
