BIOLOGY CURRENT EVENT ASSIGNMENT

Find and read a news article relating to course content.

Acceptable: Biology related: living organisms (plants, animals, & microorganisms), medicine, health, ecology, genetics, evolution, cellular biology, DNA

Articles must be written in 2015

Articles must be long enough to provide enough information for you to write a one page summary and present to your classmates for 3 minutes.

Format:

Heading which includes: Title, Author, Publication, Date

Summary: (At least 10 sentences)

Describe what the current event is discussing in your own words. Include important details to help readers understand the topic.

Definitions: As you read the article, list and define at least 5 scientific terms that are directly related to the topic.

Importance: (at least 3 sentences)

Why is this current event important? How does it help the organism involved? How does it affect society? (This requires you to think and make connections)

Relationship to biology: (at least 3 sentences)

How is this event related to biology? What branch of biology does it fall under? How does it relate to a unit we covered in class?

Page requirements: (use 12 pt. “Times New Roman” font and 1” margins)

Minimum: 1 page (typed, single spaced)
