DECISION MAKING - THE CHOICE IS YOURS

CIA4UCulminating Activity: TOP NOTCH ECONOMICS REPORTERDescription of Task:left0You are a top notch economics reporter for a major news magazine. Your job is to monitor current events, identify the major stakeholders involved, and to analyze the situation and the major decisions with an “economics perspective”. Being a responsible global citizen, you pay particular attention to major environmental issues. You understand that individuals as well as organizations need to make all sorts of decisions everyday - consumption of goods and services, contribution to the economy and as active citizens in society. Thus, you are able to apply key economic concepts to help you make decisions in your own life. This culminating activity has three parts. Part 1: Glossary: Defining Key Economic Conceptsleft-1905Readers of your news magazine come from all walks of life, and may not necessarily be familiar with the key economic concepts that you have studied. Create a glossary for the terms that you used in your articles for them to refer to as they read your articles. Part 2: Reporting Real World Situationsleft0Analyze and report on three real world situations, which involve decisions that are influenced by the key economic concepts you defined in Part 1. Since you are a role model to your readers regarding the use of economic concepts to help you make decisions, ensure that your articles are about issues that are important to you. The three situations should be current events involving: An environmental problem such as air pollution or global warming, a Canadian issue and a topic of your choice. You can search for current events in newspapers, magazines, or other media. Articles should be no older than two months. Process:1. Give your article an appropriate title. Provide a brief background of the situation in your own words.2. Briefly describe who the stakeholders are in the situation and justify why they are stakeholders.3. Outline the key economic concepts that are present in the situation. (these will be the terms you identify and define in part 1) Use bold font to identify these concepts.4. Analyse how these economic concepts affect decisions being made in the situation. (This is the substance of your article - you need to show to your readers why the decisions of the stakeholders did or did not make sense, and you need to back up your arguments with your economic analysis.) You should require no more than a page (for each article) to complete these four steps. You must submit the resources you used including proper citation ***I want your own thoughts in Part 2. Outside references should be kept to a minimum.***Part 3: Environmental Economics00The editor of your news magazine is justifiably concerned with the state of the environment, and he/she is therefore considering running a feature story on a major environmental problem from an economics perspective. You must decide on a resource that you would like to explore. Once you have decided on your resource, you must research the following questions:What is the history of the problem? What does is look like today? Who are the stakeholders, and how do they respond to this issue? Is there a conflict in this situation? Describe how the self-interest of different stakeholders result in this conflict. What are possible solutions to this conflict? Will these solutions result in environmental sustainability?Created by ”myclass.sec/12/31771/.../CA-%20Student%20copy.docx”Modified by: Ms. Eleveld ................
