Dear school community, This week has been one of the strangest and most difficult I think we have all faced. I am thankful to all of you for your support and resilience in coping with the current circumstances. However, we are resolute in our determination to manage the situation and conquer the challenges presented. The number of positive COVID cases across Telford has quadrupled in a week; please follow the guidelines -stay at home and keep safe. We are proud that our school early on prioritised online learning through the implementation of SeeSaw. This is a key part of our vision and?every child in the school has access to it. All pupils have been trained to use it over the past few months, despite a few pretending they have never seen it before (good try!). Keeping in touchYour class teacher will be ringing regularly to speak to you and your child; this is something uniquely we do as a school and believe it will help massively maintain relationships, mental health and learning until we return to normality back in school. If, at first, we cannot contact you directly, we will ring you a few more times, but then we will initiate a home visit under our safeguarding protocol. We must know that all of our pupils are safe and well. It is essential we have a current contact number for the home where your child is living. Please update your details through our office if any circumstances have changed. We expect pupils to complete work each day. It is a requirement that all children at home are engaged in remote learning with their school. If you need internet connection or a device, please let us know. We can lend you a school tablet or laptop for working at home, but only if needed. You must look after this equipment as any damage will have to be repaired at your expense.?We also have a small number of Vodafone SIM cards with 30GB of data for 90 days available. Please contact us at school if you require any help or support with this. Our SeeSaw policy (online learning)Donnington Wood C of E Junior School uses Seesaw to inspire and facilitate learning at home and at school.? We believe the value of online learning will set up our pupils for success in life. We are committed to having 100% of our families learning online through this app. Using Seesaw, teachers can post learning activities, video presentations and website links directly to their class. They can assess and comment on pupils’ submitted work and leave messages for individual pupils, the whole class and parents within the class workspace.Activities will be scheduled and posted each day and will be accessible for children from 8.00am to do at any point throughout that day. Teachers will endeavour to have all submitted/uploaded work approved and assessed by the end of the following day (Children should look out for any notifications or comments). Teachers and senior leaders will be monitoring the use of Seesaw by all pupils during the week.Parents, please ensure the following: that you are signed up and logged into your Seesaw account (this is where you will see your child’s work and be able to leave comments of encouragement and praise). We have sent text reminders this week to help you sign up. If you have not already done this, or misplaced your login details, then please contact the school. It is crucial you do this, as it is the easiest channel of communication.that appropriate firewalls and age-restrictions are set on your home computers and devices. Your child’s computer use is regularly monitored. Any school devices should only be used for remote munication is kept at a professional/appropriate level;?any messages on Seesaw?should be about your child’s schoolwork only. Please contact the school via telephone for any other queries/important messages. ensure your child’s submitted work is correctly assigned and clearly photographed to enable a teacher to mark it. Inappropriate or unclear work cannot be approved.More sad and difficult newsSadly, we have been informed that one of our ex-pupils, now a year 7 at Telford Priory School, has passed away. This is devastating news for all of us who knew him so well. We are working with TPS to set up a fitting memorial, but if you want to contribute and support the family, they are welcoming donations via this link: Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this devastating time. Additionally, a number of parents have asked me if they are able to donate in the memory of Mr Joe Freeman, our dear colleague, who sadly passed away before Christmas. A donation page has been created in memory?of Mr Freeman.?If you wish to donate, please do so via this link: than ever, living by our core school values, we continue to work together in hope, friendship and perseverance. Mr Fox and all of the TeamOnline Safety rulesThis agreement will help keep me safe and help me to be fair to others??1.
