HCS Preschool Programs

• A full day schedule - Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.

• Transportation to home school zone or assigned zone if Special Education Services are necessary

• Focus on the Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning

• Provide developmentally appropriate instruction following the High/Scope curriculum

• Provide highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals

• Breakfast, lunch and snack served daily

• Designated “nap” or rest time provided daily

• Provide 20 fieldtrips per year

• Home/School Coordinators work with teachers and parents to conduct parent workshops and home visits

Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI)

• 16 classes serving 256 four-year old children (2008-2009)

• All children screened with the Brigance Preschool Screen

• All students participate Fall and Spring PALS assessment

Early Childhood Special Education Preschool Program (ECSE)

• Maximum of 8 full time students per class

• 7 classes (2007-08)

• Each child has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)

Partners Preschool Program (PPP)

• Children who do not meet “at risk” criteria for VPI

• Reverse inclusion class with typically developing children serving as peer models in ECSE classroom

• Provide developmental & educational benefits for typically developing children & children with disabilities

• Screened with Brigance Preschool Screen

• Individual goals set for each student in 5 developmental areas (cognitive, social, adaptive, motor, & communication)

• Participate in fall and spring PALS assessment
