Prefect Announcements

Good morning Brooklyn Tech.  Today is Tuesday, January 12th and day 7 of the 10-day cycle.   And now, I would like to ask everyone to please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance:

 

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.  And to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty, and Justice for All.

 

You may be seated.  And now for today’s announcements:

1. TODAY'S WORD-A-DAY IS Camaraderie.  Camaraderie IS A NOUN. IT MEANS good fellowship or friendship. TODAY'S WORD-A-DAY SENTENCE IS: Students with the same extracurricular interests develop a camaraderie with their peers.

2. Attention Seniors... Financial Aid Information Night will be held on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13 at 6:00PM. Financial aid experts from Polytechnic Institute will help you understand how to file your FAFSA and make sense of the overall process.   You AND your parents are urged to attend Financial Aid Information Night on Wednesday, January 13.

3. Attention all Talent Show participants: The general meeting is today after 9th period in the 8th Floor Teacher's Cafeteria. The meeting will start no later than 3. It is important for you to attend the meeting so that you are fully informed. Attendance will be taken.

4. The Documentary Club will show Zeitgeist The Movie on Wednesday January 13th in room 6E6.  Zeitgeist is a documentary addressing the global issues in our world today.  This is a world-wide call for awareness and change.

5. As a reminder to all BETA members, there will be a general meeting today after ninth period in room 2C3.

6. Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions is bringing your family the nation’s leading SAT and ACT prep for only $499! SAT Classes begin on: January 23rd (for March SAT), March 13th (for May SAT), and March 20th (for June SAT). ACT Class begins on: February 6th (for April ACT). For full schedules please contact one of our advisors or meet us in the cafeteria on Friday, January 15th at Brooklyn Tech!

7. Handball season is fast approaching!! Anyone who wants to try out for Tech Handball needs to return both a Medical Form and Parental Consent Form to Coach Hoftyzer or Coach Fischer by Wednesday February 10th. This is the due date for all new AND returning players. Forms can be downlaoded from bths.edu by clicking Athletics and then selecting Forms.

8. Horizon's Garage Sale is starting today after 9th period! We have regents review books for history, physics and math. We also have SATs books being sold for as low as $4. Come to room 4E20 to take a look. We just might have something you need.

9. The boys Varsity Basketball team pulled out a win at Prospect Heights yesterday, with a score of 58-56. Carlos Mesa led the team with 18 pts including the game winning shot with 4 seconds left in the game. Come out and support them at their next home game, which is tomorrow against Erasmus.

10. Attention Brooklyn Tech. Brooklyn Tech wrestling needs your help. the team which has been dominating in the greatest city in the world, is facing their biggest competitors today. All they need is for you to come and show your support in the first floor gymnasium as they battle with Curtis high school as the top wrestling team in NYC. the match starts at 5, so be sure to come down and show school spirit. GOOOO TECH!!!

11. Hey Girls - Ever wonder what the fastest game on two feet is? Look no further - the answer is LACROSSE. Come see what all the hype is about on Friday in Room 1E17. You don't have to know how to play. Just come check it out - and bring LOTS of FRIENDS - refreshments will be served. 

12. How many times have you walked through the streets to come across a homeless person shivering alongside some building, or someone lying on a cardboard on some park bench? Plenty I'm sure. Well if any of those times you felt any bit of sadness and desired to do something to help - here is your chance. Come join BETA in their can drive. Cans will be collected until January 19th during all lunch periods in the center section of the cafeteria. Let's all join together in providing others the food we so often take for granted. 

13. Here’s a gift from me to you; with lots of hugs and kisses too. You are my friend and I just want to say; I really love you and happy valentine’s day; Give a gift to your special someone this valentine’s day.  Buy a valentine in the center section of the cafeteria during all lunch periods.  Valentines will be on sale from January 11th to January 22nd. Support Tech Track by purchasing a valentine for a special someone or close friend. Prices start at $1.

14. Attention everyone! The annual Flowers For Favorites event is back at Tech! Express your sincerity, thoughts, feelings, and love by sending a REAL flower and card to your close ones.  Please make sure you know your recipient's prefect. Real red roses, real pink carnations, and real white pom poms!  Collection will continue until Friday January 15th during all lunch periods in the center section of the cafeteria.

15. The LEGO Robotics is still hosting the trivia quiz until the 20th of January, every day except Mondays after 9th.  Go to room BW22 and test your knowledge. Entrance is only $1.50 and you can win a $25 gift card to iTunes.  We dare you.

16. To all Seniors who are going on the Senior Winter Trip: If you haven’t done so already, check your Brooklyn Tech email address and answer the Winter Trip questionnaire. You need to choose one of the scheduled activities.

17. This is a reminder that on Wednesday, we will follow a Prefect schedule.

18. The Brooklyn Tech Boys Tennis Team would like to remind those that wish to try out should have their forms filled out by the end of regents week. They will be collected Feb 4th after 9th period at 3e15.

19. All students who wish to re take a Math regents this January should go to the school website, bths.edu and click on regents registration and follow the instructions to register for January math regents. Please register by Tuesday.

20. Hey Technites! Remember You Got Served last year? Well, it's back! Auditions are coming up on February 23th and 25th. If you're interested in auditioning as an individual or a group, there will be a General Meeting on February 2nd in the teacher's cafeteria on the North side of the 8th floor.

21. Remember that insanely huge book that you had to flip through to check out which high schools you wanted to attend? Well...the cover of the book was drawn by a student. It’s that time of the year that the DOE is asking for submissions by February 12th 2010. The link with the contest details are available on the Brooklyn Tech website.

22. All tech junior, sophomore, and freshman football players must report to 1c3 January 11th, following 9th period. Anyone interested in playing must report to pick up or hand in medical and parent consent. See coach McKenna if you have questions.

23. If you wish to have the morning announcements emailed to you daily, then go to the school website to find out how you can do that.

24. To have your announcement read during the morning announcements, you must email your message to Mr. Williams at mwilliams@bths.edu no later than the evening prior to the morning announcements.
