Cardinal Gibbons High School is a Roman Catholic four year-college preparatory school administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh. The school is located in Raleigh and accessible to all of the Triangle’s cities and communities. The area is rich in higher education institutions, all of which feed the variety of technology, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies of the Research Triangle Park area. Our graduates enjoy 100% acceptance at the finest colleges and universities in the country. The faculty at Cardinal Gibbons consists of eighty professional staff members and over 70 percent of the faculty possess at least a Master’s degree.

A Statement Regarding GPA’s

The transcript contains two numbers. One represents the student’s weighted GPA accumulated since the beginning of the 9th grade. This GPA reflects any weight a student received for taking an AP or Honors course. The second number is the student’s unweighted GPA. This GPA does not provide any weight for AP or Honors classes nor does it factor in any plus grades (i.e. A+, B+, C+ etc).

Minimum Requirements for Graduation

24 credits (for students at CGHS for 4 years):

4 credits in Theology (1 credit for each year in attendance)

4 credits in English

4 credits in Math (one credit must be above Algebra II)

3 credits in Science (one must be in Biology; one must be a physical science; Chemistry is recommended)

3 ½ credits in Social Studies

2 credits in the same Foreign Language

1 credit in Fine Arts

1 credit in Heath and Physical Education

½ credit in Keyboarding

Statement About AP & Honors Placement

Students are not able to place themselves in Honors and AP courses. Students must meet prerequisites to be placed into an Honors or AP course. These prerequisites include grades in their current class, PSAT scores and a teacher recommendation.
