Newsletter 604

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The school is closed on Monday for May Day Bank Holiday – Children return on Tuesday 3rd May.

SATS – Year 6

A letter has sent home regarding a meeting on Tuesday 3rd May to outline the structure of this year’s SATS for Year 6. If you will be attending please return the slip by Tuesday morning so we can accommodate all those who wish to attend, thank you.

Rotary Club

I wrote to the Rotary Club recently to see if there was any way they could help with funding for Sadie, who remains poorly and who still has regular trips to hospital. This week, for example, she has been at Little Havens for the week. Within days of the request I have had individuals and businesses come into school with cash, cheques and gifts for the family. At the time of writing this we have had over £900 donated. I have written to the club to thank them. Once again the generosity and kindness of our local community has shone through. With so many problems in the world it is good to be reminded again that we live in such a caring community.

Bikeability – Year 6

Letters were sent home today offering the chance of our Year 6 to attend the Bikeability course. If your child is interested please send the form back as soon as possible as this was very popular last year. Please note, your child must attend all sessions to pass. Full details are on the website.

Emails to school

We are finding that more parents are emailing the school and that some emails are for information that teachers may need to know first thing in the morning. If it’s an urgent message that the teacher or other members of staff should be aware of first thing in the morning, please send a letter in with your child to hand to the relevant staff. This is just in case your email may not be seen in time or we are having internet problems.

Swimming

We are running at a loss of over £2000 since September due to the very high number of parents who have not contributed to lessons. If you have not sent in a contribution of £14.70 for Year 5 or £12.60 for Year 6 please send it in as soon as possible, thank you.

Mobile Phones

We are finding more and more children are bringing phones into school which is creating additional work for the school and makes children late coming out at the end of the school day as they have to go via the office to collect them. 90% of the children bringing phones in are walked to school and collected by parents so there is no real reason for them to bring them in. I am therefore asking parents that, unless your child is walking to and from school without an adult, please help us by not allowing your child to bring their phones in. Thank you.

Asthma pumps/medication - trips

If your child needs an asthma pump or any form of medication when they attend a school trip it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure they have it with them on the day. Medication, other than inhalers which must be kept with the child, must always be handed to the relevant staff.

Football kits

If you still have a school football kit at home please bring it in on Tuesday and return to Mrs. Robbins.

Glasses

If your child wears glasses and they have misplaced them, possibly at school, please ask in the office as we have had a few handed in.
