Students share their research at Social Studies
Fair
Advance Staff Report
Published: May 2, 1999
Wearing a NASA sweatshirt, 13-year-old John Sequin, a student at St.
Teresa's School, displays his project on the space program.
Students who prepared projects on the Vietnam War Memorial, the
Transcontinental Railroad and the French Revolution took top honors at
21st annual Staten Island Social Studies Fair.
The fair was sponsored by the Staten Island Council of Social Studies. The
event took place Friday at the Michael J. Petrides Complex, Sunnyside,
with the results announced yesterday.
A total of 80 public, parochial and private schools participated in the fair.
The students, from grades 3 through 12, provided more than 500 projects
and reports ranging from a variety of topics such as Egypt, Ireland,
American immigrants, the millenium and historic sites on Staten Island.
Along with the winners, three top prizes were given out for outstanding
projects.
