Hope Loftis hosted several segments for Joy in Our

Town.. Dr. Ray Cleek (Administrator, The Babb Center

for Counseling) spoke on the topic of seniors ¨C the aging

process and end of life issues. One of the common myths

about growing old is that it is painful,

something to dread, and even something

to avoid. Dr. Cleek encouraged people to

eat right and exercise at a young age

and to carry it through to their senior

years. He also noted that Christians

Hope Loftis and Clark Flatt

should maintain a practice of spiritual

disciplines throughout their life so that

they will mature spiritually. Regarding end

of life issues, Dr. Cleek encouraged

conversations with family that include

financial plans, where to find important

documents, and power of attorney.

Vanessa Londino (LPC, Insight Counseling

Hope Loftis and Dr. Ray Cleek

Centers) spoke on the topic of depression

and anxiety/anxiety disorders. Vanessa

Vanessa Londino

shared that depression affects work, family, relationships, and even how

people view themselves. Anxiety can be caused by a number of things, such as relationships ending, death of a loved one,

divorce, or many other reasons. Vanessa noted that how a person deals with depression is important, that God can heal

depression through His presence, that the Book of Psalms is a part of the Bible meant to inspire those dealing in anxious

situations, and that it is also helpful to be able go to friends for help. Clark Flatt spoke on the topic of teen suicide, and how

it is the second leading cause of death in young people between the ages of ten to twenty-four. Clark started the Jason

Foundation, which is a nationwide youth foundation, because his own son committed suicide. Clark talked of watching for

warning signs and to seek help from a professional if you see the warning signs in your youth. Talking about it with youth and

getting them help can prevent a suicide attempt.
