EXT. HIGH SCHOOL - FOOTBALL FIELD - DAY
The CHEERLEADERS are putting on a show. REBECCA and LACEY are the stars, shaking their pom-poms for all they’re worth.
WILLIAM is sitting way back in the bleachers with RON and CARL. They’re three outsiders in enemy territory. They don’t look like the stereotype, but it’s obvious that they’re geeky to the core.
William has a pile of textbooks balanced on his knees precariously. All of his attention is focused on Rebecca.
And she's flawless.
Rebecca sees William looking at her. He looks away, looking anywhere but at her. She grins, then returns her attention to the routine.
The football team runs out onto the field, led by JOHN and KYLE. The home crowd goes wild.
All except for William.
Rebecca and Lacey wave their pom-poms at John and Kyle. They wave back.
KYLE
(TO LACEY)
I'm gonna score one for you, baby!!
Lacey shakes her pom-poms like crazy, jumping up and down and yelling barely coherent words of encouragement.
The game starts.
Within seconds, John has been tackled painfully. William has to fight down a laughing fit. Everyone else is worried.
Especially Rebecca.
REBECCA
(SMALL)
Oh, God...
John is checked out. He's okay. He gets up. A wave of relief flows through the crowd. John plays to them, showboating. He blows a kiss to Rebecca and she jumps up and down, giggling.
William is jealous. He mutters darkly.
The game starts up again.
Kyle charges through the opposition. He scores.
The crowd goes wild.
Including William this time. He jumps up and cheers, dropping all his books in the process.
Lacey cries out, overjoyed.
Kyle pulls off his helmet and screams in triumph. The other players, led by John, rush to congratulate him, genuinely happy for him.
JOHN
YOU THE MAN!!!!!
Lacey runs out onto the field and jumps into Kyle's waiting arms. He lifts her up, showing her off like a trophy.
Rebecca cheers louder than anyone.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - CLASSROOM – DAY
Lacey is sitting at the back of the class, drawing hearts in her notebook and paying no attention to the lesson.
Rebecca is sitting in the front row.
William, Ron and Carl are sitting a few rows across from Rebecca.
MR. GELLAR writes a complex equation on the blackboard, then he turns to face the class.
Rebecca looks at her textbook and then at the calculations on the blackboard. She frowns.
MR. GELLAR
So if X equals Y, then the answer must be..?
Rebecca concentrates, trying to figure it out. She scribbles equations and formulas in her notebook furiously, but she can’t work it out. She scribbles out her work, frustrated.
William’s hand shoots up. But Mr. Gellar waits to see if anyone else has a clue.
They don't.
Mr. Gellar sighs and turns to William.
MR. GELLAR
William... Again.
Rebecca turns and looks at William thoughtfully. He notices, but doesn't dare make eye contact. He takes a deep breath, nervous as hell in front of a class full of people.
WILLIAM
42...
MR. GELLAR
(SMILES)
Yes. 42! The answer to life, the universe and everything...
That cracks up William, Ron and Carl. But no-one else. A few people give them funny looks.
Rebecca frowns. She doesn’t get the joke.
Mr. Gellar sighs as he looks at the sea of vacant minds in front of him. He's visibly relieved when the bell rings.
Everyone jumps up and heads for the door(except for William, Ron and Carl).
Rebecca is a little slower leaving than the others, she glances at William on her way out.
MR. GELLAR
(TO THE DEPARTING STUDENTS)
I want you to read chapters ten through twelve for next week...
But they're all gone. He sags back into his chair.
MR. GELLAR
(TO HIMSELF)
...for all the good it’ll do...
William puts a non-ironic apple on Mr. Gellar's desk.
Mr. Gellar smiles at William. He picks up the apple and polishes it on his lapel.
WILLIAM
We still on for the science fair?
MR. GELLAR
Absotively.
William smiles. Ron and Carl fall in next to him.
RON
Is it gonna be worth extra credit?
MR. GELLAR
(SMILES)
Maybe.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - CORRIDOR - DAY
William walks along the corridor, clutching his unwieldy collection of books. A jock deliberately bumps into him, making him drop everything.
JOCK
(LAUGHING)
Oops!
The jock keeps on walking.
William kneels down and starts picking up his stuff. A pair of impossibly lovely legs glide into view, distracting him.
He looks up and sees Rebecca standing next to him, smiling down at him.
REBECCA
Need a little help?
William suddenly loses the ability to speak. Rebecca kneels down and helps him pick up his things. He just about manages to say...
WILLIAM
...thanks...
William has all his things balanced precariously, holding onto them awkwardly.
REBECCA
You're the science guy, right?
William looks for hidden cameras. Is she making fun of him?
WILLIAM
(SLOWLY)
...yeah... I guess...
He's still having trouble talking. She grins, she thinks he's kinda cute.
REBECCA
You get straight A's and all... Me? I'm a total bonehead. I'm gonna flunk out... unless I get some help. Fast.
William sees where she's going with this.
REBECCA
So... can you help me..?
William nods.
WILLIAM
...sure... I can... help...
Rebecca smiles.
REBECCA
Cool. So, meet me in the library after school, yeah?
William nods. He still can't talk.
REBECCA
Okay. See you later.
Rebecca walks away. She looks back at him and flashes a dazzling smile. William watches her go, hypnotized.
John comes out of nowhere. He “accidentally” bumps into William as he passes him, rushing to catch up to Rebecca. William drops all his books again, but he’s too busy watching Rebecca to care.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - RESTROOM - DAY
William checks his reflection in the mirror. He doesn't like what he sees. He runs his fingers through his hair, restyling it to try and look like his more fashionable classmates.
He checks himself out again. It’ll have to do...
He tries to pull himself together. He tries to be cool. He takes a deep breath and...
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - CORRIDOR OUTSIDE LIBRARY/LIBRARY - DAY
...looks in through the library door.
He sees Rebecca sitting by herself, a serious, scholarly look on her face. She has textbooks in front of her and is furiously making notes. She realizes that she's made a mistake and scribbles out what she's written, cursing under her breath.
William pushes the door open hesitantly and takes a tentative step into the library. A bucket of pigs' blood doesn't fall on him. So far, so good. He breathes a sigh of relief.
Rebecca sees him and waves him over.
REBECCA
Hey, William! Over here!
She knows his name?! He’s stunned. He heads over to her, still looking around, still expecting trouble. He sits down next to her, but not too close.
She notices his new do and frowns.
REBECCA
What happened to you..?
He touches his hair self-consciously. Then she does a little restyling of her own, putting his hair back the way God intended. He just stares at her. She admires her handiwork and gives him the thumbs up, smiling.
WILLIAM
...okay...
Rebecca moves her chair closer to his and waits for him to get started. He just looks at her, thrown by her proximity. She smiles encouragingly.
WILLIAM
(BACK ON TRACK)
...oh... yeah...
But he's not sure what to say or do next. Rebecca doesn't say anything in case she puts him off even more. He reaches for her textbooks, looking them over. Then he pushes one away.
WILLIAM
(SHAKING HIS HEAD)
...forget that one...
REBECCA
Not good?
WILLIAM
...no... the guy who wrote it...
(SUDDENLY AUTHORATIVE)
He's an idiot. He doesn't have a clue.
Rebecca notices the change. And she likes it.
William gets up and starts grabbing books off shelves.
WILLIAM
You should read this... and that... this is the old edition, but it’s okay...
He stacks the books on the desk. Rebecca watches the pile grow.
REBECCA
I just need to get a C... I’m not trying to get into NASA...
William stops dead, grinning sheepishly. Rebecca laughs.
EXT. HIGH SCHOOL – DAY
But it’s starting to get dark now.
William and Rebecca come out of the front door and head down the steps. Rebecca is weighed down by books.
REBECCA
Are you sure I’ve got enough books here?
William laughs.
WILLIAM
Sorry... but you’ve got a lot to catch up on, and you’ve only got three weeks...
Rebecca nods.
REBECCA
You need a ride home?
William checks his watch.
WILLIAM
Uh... yeah... thanks...
REBECCA
Hold these...
Rebecca shoves the books at William and he barely manages to hold on to them. She leads him across the parking lot to her car, pulling out her keys and clicking off the alarm on the way.
REBECCA
Where d’you live?
WILLIAM
12th street...
REBECCA
(GRINS)
The good part of town...
William just shrugs.
They reach her car. She takes the books off him and throws them in the trunk, next to a roll of tools and a stack of car manuals.
INT. REBECCA’S CAR – DAY
They get in the car. Rebecca inadvertently flashes a lot of thigh and William can’t help but stare. She notices and grins. She starts the car and drives off.
EXT. WILLIAM’S HOUSE – NIGHT
Rebecca pulls up outside. William gets out.
REBECCA
See you tomorrow... Don’t be late!
She drives off. William waves goodbye, then he rushes into the house...
INT. WILLIAM’S BEDROOM – NIGHT
...and up to his bedroom.
He’s got a telescope set up by the window. He uses it to watch Rebecca drive away. Her car vanishes around a bend and he tries to find her again. He sees a flash of something and refocuses...
It’s a meteorite. His jaw hits the floor.
The meteorite passes through the atmosphere, becoming a ball of fire.
He tracks the meteorite until he loses sight of it behind a nearby hill. He grabs the phone and dials...
EXT. FIELD - NIGHT
The meteorite punches a hole through a tree and comes down in a field. It ploughs along, throwing up debris in its wake. It grinds to a halt, a deep trench left behind it.
The surface of the meteorite is blood red. It pulses, like a heartbeat. The shell cracks and a stream of steaming purple goo squirts out.
Guttural moans, hisses and growls come from whatever's inside. Claws burst out of the crack in the shell and pry it open further.
EXT. LAKESIDE - NIGHT
Kyle's car is parked by the side of the lake.
INT. KYLE'S CAR - NIGHT
Lacey and Kyle are steaming up the windows, seriously heavy petting.
Kyle undoes a couple of Lacey’s buttons, slips his hand into her sweater and cops a feel.
But then Lacey tenses up. She pulls away from Kyle and does her buttons up again. Kyle holds his hands up in surrender.
KYLE
I thought you wanted to...
LACEY
I'm just so... I want it to be...
(BEAT, KNOWS SHE’S A CLICHÉ)
...perfect... Don't you..?
Kyle nods and smiles.
LACEY
You don't mind..?
Kyle shakes his head. Lacey nuzzles up against him.
LACEY
You're really something, you know that?
KYLE
(CHESHIRE CAT GRIN)
Oh, yeah! I'm one in a million, baby. You don't know how lucky you are.
Lacey laughs.
EXT. TREES - NIGHT
William, Ron and Carl make their way through the trees, using torches to light their way.
WILLIAM
It came down somewhere around here...
RON
This better not be like the time you said you saw Bigfoot...
William ignores the comment.
They take a few more steps, then they stop dead when they see the hole punched clean through the tree. They stare at it, amazed.
WILLIAM
Whoa! That is really... Whoa!
They move nearer to the tree. Apart from the hole, the tree and everything around it are unmarked. William looks around. He sees something and runs towards it.
WILLIAM
This way...
Ron and Carl follow William.
INT. KYLE'S CAR - NIGHT
Lacey and Kyle are still parked, still snuggled up. Kyle checks his watch.
KYLE
Shit! I gotta get you home...
Kyle starts the car. Lacey puts on her seatbelt. Kyle's about to drive off when...
LACEY
Seatbelt!
Kyle looks at Lacey. He breaks into a huge smile and puts on his seatbelt.
KYLE
You are so Marion Cunningham...
Lacey giggles. Kyle puts the car in gear and drives off.
EXT. FIELD - NIGHT
William runs towards the trench left by the meteorite. He sees the meteorite and skids to a halt.
Ron and Carl are right behind him. They see the meteorite as well.
RON
Look at that thing...
They cluster around the meteorite.
It’s about the size of a tennis ball. The shell has been torn wide open and it isn't pulsing now. It's lost all of its colour. The goo is still leaking out of the shell.
Ron reaches out to touch the goo. Carl grabs him and pulls him away, making him jump out of his skin.
CARL
Don't touch it! Remember what happened to that guy in The Blob?!
They all back away. William notices tracks leading away from the meteorite. He's stunned.
WILLIAM
What the fuck..?
Ron and Carl see the tracks too. Their jaws drop.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
Kyle and Lacey are driving along the road, going over the speed limit. Kyle glances at his watch.
KYLE
Your dad is gonna kick my ass...
LACEY
Relax. He likes you.
That just makes Kyle laugh.
EXT. FIELD - NIGHT
William, Ron and Carl are following the tracks, slowly and carefully.
WILLIAM
This is unbelievable...
RON
Calm down. It could be nothing...
WILLIAM
(WITH B-MOVIE GRAVITAS)
Something came down in that rock... Something from another world...
Ron and Carl look at William, frowning.
CARL
Don't get too carried away...
INT. KYLE'S CAR(MOVING) - NIGHT
Kyle checks his watch again, when he looks back at the road ahead he sees SOMETHING right in front of him. Lacey sees it too.
LACEY
Kyle! Look out for that...
Kyle swerves to avoid whatever it is.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
The car goes into a spin and hits the SOMETHING with a thud. One of the tyres bursts.
INT. KYLE'S CAR - NIGHT
Kyle manages to get the car back under control, skidding to a halt.
KYLE
Son of a bitch!
LACEY
Are you alright?
KYLE
Yeah, yeah... How 'bout you?
LACEY
I'm fine.
(INDICATES)
Seatbelt.
Lacey smiles, a little smile. Kyle almost laughs. He unbuckles his seatbelt and gets out of the car.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
Kyle sees a huge dent in the side of the car and the flat tyre and curses under his breath. He looks around for what they hit. Lacey gets out of the car as well.
Kyle sees a deer in the road, its neck broken and its stomach ripped open.
KYLE
...shit...
Lacey sees the deer too. She reacts.
LACEY
We killed Bambi!
Kyle goes over and grabs the deer by its back legs.
LACEY
What are you doing..?
KYLE
I gotta move it off the road...
Kyle drags the deer to the roadside, leaving a smear of blood and guts on the asphalt. Lacey turns green.
LACEY
Oh...
EXT. CORNFIELD - NIGHT
William, Ron and Carl are still following the tracks. They lead through a cornfield.
WILLIAM
(POINTING)
THIS WAY!!!
They break into a run.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
Kyle leaves the deer beside the road. He goes back over to the car and takes a closer look at the damage.
KYLE
Look at this! Fuck...
Kyle goes and opens the trunk to get the spare tyre, the jack and the tyre iron. Lacey just watches.
LACEY
Need any help?
KYLE
No, no... I got it...
Kyle gets to work changing the tyre. Lacey just stands around, trying to be patient. She sees something out of the corner of her eye and wanders over to the dead deer, looking at it, curious.
It suddenly SPASMS. She cries out in shock and jumps back. Kyle rushes over to her.
KYLE
What?!
LACEY
It moved!
Kyle looks at the deer. It's not moving now. He kicks it, just to be sure.
KYLE
It's dead...
LACEY
It moved!
KYLE
It was probably like a death twitch or something... That happens, right?
LACEY
(SHRUGS)
I guess...
KYLE
That's all it was... A twitch... Okay?
LACEY
(NODS)
Okay...
Kyle gets back to work on the tyre.
Lacey stares at the deer, waiting to see if it moves.
It spasms again. She jumps, but she doesn't cry out this time. She grabs a stick and prods the deer. Nothing. She prods it again. Still nothing. She breathes a sigh of relief.
But then an icky little ALIEN PARASITE bursts out of the deer's mouth and leaps right at Lacey. She opens her mouth to scream, but it lands on her face and stifles the sound. The impact knocks her off her feet and she hits the ground hard.
Kyle is tightening the last lugnut when he hears her fall down. He looks around, sees her on the ground and runs over to her. He helps her up.
KYLE
You alright? What happened..?
Lacey seems perfectly normal. There aren't any marks on her face except for a little bit of dirt.
LACEY
I'm okay...
William, Ron and Carl burst out of the trees, frightening the life out of Kyle and Lacey. Kyle and Lacey see who it is and relax. They obviously know them.
KYLE
You scared the shit out of me!
Kyle adopts a boxing stance, like he’s gonna do some damage. But he’s only playing. He lightly taps William’s chest with his fist.
WILLIAM
(WEAKLY)
Sorry...
KYLE
What the hell are you guys doing out here?
They don't want to say too much.
WILLIAM
Er... Just looking... for... er...
(HE LOOKS AROUND)
Have you seen anything... freaky..?
KYLE
(LAUGHS)
Just you...
William laughs.
KYLE
You need a ride?
William looks at Ron and Carl. They nod, sick of running around.
WILLIAM
Yeah... Thanks...
William sees the damage to Kyle's car.
WILLIAM
What happened?
Kyle points at the deer. William looks at it and realizes what they'd been chasing(but doesn't have a clue they were on the right track).
WILLIAM
(DISAPPOINTED)
Oh...
INT. KYLE'S CAR(MOVING) - NIGHT
Kyle and Lacey get in the car. William, Ron and Carl pile in the back. Kyle starts the car up and drives off.
KYLE
So, really... what are you doing out here?
WILLIAM
Just a... er...
RON
A science project...
WILLIAM
Yeah... A science project...
Kyle smiles. He laughs, but he’s not mocking them.
KYLE
I should've known...
The car is heading into town now.
KYLE
Where you want me to drop you off?
William checks where they are.
WILLIAM
Here's fine...
EXT. TOWN - STREET - NIGHT
Kyle pulls up to the curb. William, Ron and Carl get out.
WILLIAM
Thanks.
KYLE
No problem. See ya!
Kyle drives away. Lacey waves goodbye.
CARL
...that was a waste of time...
William just sighs.
EXT. ROAD – NIGHT
The same road where Kyle and Lacey had their fender bender.
A large group of people is spread out along the road. They’re all dressed in government issue biohazard suits.
CHRISTINA RYAN is kneeling beside the remains of the deer, running a scanner over it. She’s in charge.
Her second-in-command, JONES, is standing next to her.
DOC, the team’s resident egghead, walks over to them. Christina stands up and turns to him.
CHRISTINA
(REFERRING TO DEER)
Get this back to the lab.
Doc nods. He calls over a couple of his scientific team.
DOC
Bag it. Full decon.
The team members jump to it.
JONES
This is just like the Lakeville incident...
CHRISTINA
That's what I'm afraid of...
Christina kneels down and looks at the tracks left by Kyle’s car.
CHRISTINA
Looks like a late model Volkswagen...
JONES
(GRINS)
What colour?
Christina gives him the finger.
CHRISTINA
Just find it.
But then she grins too.
INT. KYLE'S CAR(MOVING) - NIGHT
Kyle and Lacey are still driving along. Lacey is very quiet, and a little pale.
KYLE
You okay?
Lacey nods slightly.
LACEY
(WEAKLY)
Just a little tired...
EXT. LACEY'S HOUSE - NIGHT
Kyle pulls up outside Lacey's house. He sees her DAD waiting on the porch, pissed off.
KYLE
I knew it... He's gonna bury me...
LACEY
(WEAKLY)
You're crazy...
KYLE
You sure you're alright?
LACEY
(NOT FOOLING ANYBODY)
I'm fine... Really...
Kyle doesn’t say anything, he just smiles. Lacey leans over and kisses him goodnight.
LACEY
(WEAKLY)
See you in the morning...
KYLE
Sleep tight.
Lacey gets out of the car and heads towards her dad. He beams at her.
LACEY'S DAD
Hey, Princess. I was starting to get worried.
LACEY
(COVERING HOW SICK SHE FEELS)
I'm fine...
Lacey's dad puts his arm around her and walks her into the house.
Kyle watches Lacey go inside, then he puts his car in gear and drives away.
EXT. FIELD - DAY
William, Ron and Carl are on their bikes, headed for the place where the meteorite hit.
CARL
We're going the wrong way!
WILLIAM
No, no! It's this way!
CARL
No! It's over there!
RON
You're both wrong...
Ron turns left and pedals away furiously. William and Carl stop dead. They look at each other. They don't say a word. Then they follow Ron, quickly catching up to him.
The field where the meteorite landed is just up ahead of them.
RON
Told ya so!
But when they get closer they see that every trace of the meteorite has gone. They stop dead, confused.
RON
...i thought it was here...
WILLIAM
It was.
RON
Maybe it was around the other side..?
WILLIAM
No. This is the place.
CARL
Then where'd it go?
WILLIAM
I don't know...
William gets off his bike, letting it fall over onto its side. He looks around. He tries to find the tree with the hole in it, but it's gone. There’s a gap where the tree used to be, but the ground looks untouched. He sags against a tree, defeated.
An unmarked helicopter thunders overhead, making them jump out of their skin. They stare up at the helicopter, all thinking the same thing: THE MEN IN BLACK!
WILLIAM
No way!
INT. HELICOPTER(MOVING) - DAY
Christina is riding shotgun, looking at a scanner display. She has a headset on.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
The impact zone is clean. Still no trace of any lifeforms.
She listens to the orders from the other end.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Copy that. Initiating phase three.
EXT. SKY – DAY
The helicopter banks left and flies off towards the horizon
EXT. HIGH SCHOOL – DAY
Rebecca’s car heads towards the school. The engine starts to play up, making grinding noises.
REBECCA
NO!!!
Her car grinds to a halt a few feet from a parking spot. She gets out, keys in hand, muttering darkly. She opens the bonnet and looks at the engine.
REBECCA
Fucking piece of shit...
She gets her tools out of the trunk and gets to work on the engine. While she’s leaning over the engine, hard at work, someone slaps her on the ass. She spins around with a look that could kill, her face smeared with dirt, a spanner in her hand.
It’s John. He jumps back, hands held up in surrender.
JOHN
Hey! Take it easy, killer...
Rebecca smiles.
REBECCA
(SMALL)
Sorry...
JOHN
(RHETORICAL QUESTION)
Engine trouble..?
REBECCA
This piece of shit..? It’s been acting up all week...
She kicks the car, denting it.
JOHN
I told you not to buy it... Kyle could get you a nearly new one for a couple of hundred.
REBECCA
Except I don’t have a couple of hundred bucks...
JOHN
I could loan you the...
REBECCA
(INTERRUPTS)
No. Thanks, but no.
JOHN
Okay.
Rebecca makes an adjustment to the engine and closes the bonnet. Then she gets behind the wheel, puts the key in the ignition and tries the engine. It purrs. She cruises the rest of the way to the parking spot, then turns the engine off again. She grabs her bag, gets out and locks the doors.
John puts his arm around Rebecca and walks along with her towards the school.
JOHN
There's gonna be a party at Billy's house Friday night. You wanna go?
REBECCA
(SHAKING HER HEAD)
I can't... I've got so much work I need to get done...
JOHN
Studying again? It won't be any fun if you're not there.
Rebecca sighs, reluctant. But then she smiles.
REBECCA
Okay...
John kisses her.
JOHN
Yes! This is gonna be the party of the year!
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - CORRIDOR OUTSIDE LIBRARY/LIBRARY - DAY
William, books tucked under his arm, pushes open the library doors and strides in with an approximation of confidence.
But Rebecca's not there.
William sighs, not really surprised.
But then Rebecca comes running up behind him. She skids to a halt, grabbing him for support. The touch affects him, and she notices.
REBECCA
I'm late! I'm late! Sorry...
WILLIAM
(SHRUGS)
No problem...
They go into the library.
REBECCA
I can’t stay long... Kelly's dragging me off to some stupid fashion thing... You know how it is...
He doesn't, but he nods anyway. Rebecca drops her bag on a table and slips into a chair. William sits opposite her.
WILLIAM
We oughta skip right to the theorems then... if you don't have much time...
REBECCA
(NODS)
Uh-huh...
Rebecca pulls out her books and pens. She grabs a pen and opens her notebook, the pages are densely packed with notes
and sketches. William notices.
WILLIAM
You've really been putting in overtime...
Rebecca grins.
REBECCA
Yeah... It's kinda fun...
(REALISES WHAT SHE JUST SAID)
Do not tell anyone I said that. Kelly'd kick me off the squad.
WILLIAM
My lips are sealed.
William pulls one of her books towards him. He flips to a particular page, without checking the index.
WILLIAM
Mr. Gellar'll probably base most of his tests on the core theorems. So if you get those down first it'll be a lot easier for you.
Rebecca nods.
WILLIAM
They're split into six pairs, and each pair is divided into eight subsections, each with their own parameters...
Rebecca looks beautifully confused. William notices.
WILLIAM
I lost you, didn't I?
Rebecca smiles, lighting up the room.

Rebecca just laughs.
He tries to say something, but he’s not sure what. She glances at the clock.

William notices her disappointment.

Rebecca gets up and gathers her things together, scooping them into her bag. William stands up. He pulls a couple of books out of his bag and offers them to her.

She punches him playfully and he grins.

WILLIAM

Rebecca puts the books in her bag and buckles it closed.
REBECCA
I'll see you tomorrow.
Then she kisses him without thinking, like she was saying goodbye to her boyfriend. She realizes what she’s doing and freezes.
William is stunned. He freezes too.
They just stand there, looking at each other, their lips still locked together.
Rebecca breaks the spell. She pulls away from William and slowly takes a couple of steps back, stopping when she bumps into the table. She picks up her bag and slings it over her shoulder.
REBECCA
So... I'll see you tomorrow...
WILLIAM
(NODS)
Okay...
REBECCA
Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!
William laughs. Rebecca still isn't leaving.
REBECCA
I really... You know... Thanks for helping me out...
William smiles.
Rebecca finally heads for the door, but she’s still looking back at William.
REBECCA
See you tomorrow...
She bumps into the door. She shakes her head, embarrassed. She exits, heading off along the corridor.
William watches her walk away.
She looks back, smiles and waves.
He waves back, then she disappears around a corner. He stares at the empty space she’s left, a faraway look in his eye, then he turns away from the door...
...and John grabs him by the front of his shirt.
JOHN
Don't go getting any ideas, gadget boy.
WILLIAM
...what..?
JOHN
Do you seriously think you have a shot with her? Come on?!
John laughs. William doesn't say anything.
JOHN
If I see you sniffing around her again I’m gonna kick your fucking ass.
John shoves William back against the wall, then he leaves.
Shaken, William takes a deep breath and composes himself. Then he licks his lips and breaks into a huge grin...
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
William, Ron and Carl are patrolling the neighbourhood on their bikes. They’re equipped with torches, binoculars, digital cameras and packed lunches.
William is still grinning his head off.
WILLIAM

CARL

WILLIAM
In the library...
CARL
Hello, McFly!? On the cheek? On the lips? Your ass? What?
WILLIAM

William’s good mood evaporates as he thinks about what Ron just said.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - CORRIDOR - DAY
William is putting his things in his locker. Someone comes up behind him and taps him on the shoulder. He jumps, expecting the worst. Then he sees that it's Rebecca and relaxes. She smiles apologetically.
REBECCA
Easy, tiger...
William smiles.
WILLIAM
Just a reflex action, you know..?
She knows.
REBECCA
You got any plans for Saturday night?
William isn't sure where she's going with this.
WILLIAM
(HESITANT)
Not really...
REBECCA
'Cus I got a couple of tickets for Romeo And Juliet at the Grand, and I thought maybe you might wanna go with me... We've gotta write a paper on it and all that, and no-one else I know would be seen dead there... You interested?
WILLIAM
(SLOWLY)

REBECCA
You bring the popcorn. I'll bring the Cliff notes...
They both laugh, but when the laughter ends an awkward silence begins. Rebecca breaks it.
REBECCA
So, uh...
(BEAT)
It’s a date.
WILLIAM
(LAUGHS)
Yeah, right..? Big date...
Rebecca looks pained, and William realises that she’s serious. He stops laughing.
WILLIAM
(TRAILING OFF)
...saturday night...
(JUST TO MAKE SURE)
It’s a date..?
Rebecca nods.
Awkward silence. They just look at each other, not sure what to do next.
Then John comes out of nowhere, getting between William and Rebecca. He's all smiles, like butter wouldn't melt.
Rebecca smiles when she sees John, but not as warmly as usual. He doesn't seem to notice.
JOHN
I've been looking all over for you, babe.
Rebecca just smiles. John looks at William and fakes a smile.
JOHN
How you doing, buddy?
William smiles, but doesn't say anything.
John gently leads Rebecca away, she doesn't resist. She looks back at William, and flashes him that smile again.
William stares as Rebecca is escorted away. John glares back at William, but Rebecca doesn't see it.
William just stands there. The world doesn't make sense to him anymore.
And he doesn’t even notice when Lacey struts past him...
She's dressed pretty much the way she always dresses, but flashing a lot more flesh. She's oozing sexuality and everyone notices.
Kyle is talking to a couple of his friends. He has his back to Lacey, so he doesn't see her coming.
But his friends do. Their eyes bug out.
KYLE
What..?
He turns to look. His eyes go wide.
KYLE
Lacey?
Lacey smiles seductively. She pulls Kyle close and kisses him full on, grinding her body up against his and getting him really turned on. Kyle reluctantly and gently pushes her away, aware that people are staring at them.

Mr. Gellar holds the door open. Lacey walks into the office, still unconcerned. Mr. Gellar closes the door.

This just isn't like you, Lacey... Is there something you want to talk about? Are you having problems at home? If you need help, I'm here for you.
Lacey checks out Mr. Gellar. She likes what she sees.

Mr. Gellar frowns, thrown by the remark.
INT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP – VEHICLE BAY - DAY
Kyle is working on an old fire truck. He slides out from under it, smeared with oil and grease. He wipes his hands on his overalls.
LACEY
(OFF)
I love a man who's good with his hands.
Kyle looks around and sees Lacey slinking towards him. He smiles and gets up.
KYLE
Hey! I tried to find you after school, but no-one knew where you were...
LACEY
Something came up...
KYLE
Billy's having a party tonight... And I was thinking maybe you'd be up for it, what with this new you and all...
LACEY
Who else'll be there?
KYLE
Pretty much everybody.
LACEY

(SMILING)

(REALIZES WHAT HE'S SAYING)

Lacey smiles. She jumps up onto the hood of a car and spreads her legs, letting Kyle see what she isn't wearing under her skirt. He looks at her, surprised.
LACEY
All that talk about waiting so that it'd be perfect... I was just being a tease...
He just stares at her. She beckons him, sexy as hell. He moves towards her and she pulls him into an embrace, kissing him. He pushes her skirt up around her waist.
She kisses him again, playfully chewing and sucking on his lips and tongue. She undoes his zip and pushes his overalls and boxer shorts down around his ankles.
They fuck each other’s brains out. Lacey’s a screamer.
EXT. TOWN CENTRE - STREET - DAY
Mr. Gellar runs along the street, SCREAMING in agony, veins popping out all over his body. He lashes out at anything and anyone who gets in his way.
People run screaming.
Two Police cars pull up and COPS jump out. They rush at Mr. Gellar and try to subdue him. He bats one of the cops away with a vicious blow, breaking his nose. The cop flies back and CRASHES through a store window.
Another cop smacks Mr. Gellar in the head with a baton. He doesn’t feel it. He grabs the cop and lifts him up over his head easily, SNAPPING the cop's spine with a sudden vicious movement. The cop SCREAMS. Mr. Gellar drops the cop to the floor in an agonized mangled mess.
A third cop opens fire and doesn't stop until she's out of ammo. Mr. Gellar's corpse CRASHES to the floor, his face and limbs contorted in death. The cop lowers her gun, she edges towards the corpse, nervous.
Onlookers gawp.
Christina pushes through the crowd. She flashes a badge at the cop. The badge makes the cop go wide-eyed with surprise.
CHRISTINA
Get these people back! I want witness statements, and then I want your report.
The cop doesn’t move. She just stares at Christina.
CHRISTINA
Now!
The cop snaps out of it.
COP
Yes, sir.
Christina doesn't like being called "sir", and it shows.
The cop does as ordered.
Christina looks at the corpse, but she doesn't get too close.
More cops are on the scene now. Crowd control. An ambulance comes screaming along the street.
INT. LABORATORY - DAY
Doc has Mr. Gellar's corpse on an examination table. Christina and Jones stand nearby. They're all dressed in biohazard suits.
Doc examines the corpse, dictating into a recorder built into his mask.
DOC
The subject shows no external signs of infection. No bites or scratches.
He weighs the head with his hands.
DOC
There appear to be some irregularities in the bone structure. The skull is much denser than usual.
CHRISTINA
Just tell me why this guy Hulked out.
Doc nods. He grabs a bonesaw and starts to open up the chest cavity. The saw cuts through easily at first, but then has more trouble. Doc stops and looks at the corpse. He peels back the skin slightly.
CHRISTINA
What is it?
DOC
I’m not sure...
Using a spreader, Doc peels the skin and bone back, revealing a second skeleton inside. It's not human. He gasps.
Christina and Jones still don’t understand.
Doc cuts away the outer layer of human flesh and bone, exposing a CREATURE inside Mr. Gellar's corpse. The creature is reptilian, with some human characteristics.
They all react.
JONES
Fuck me!
They just look at it, stunned.
Christina snaps out of it. She runs out of the lab...
INT. CORRIDOR OUTSIDE LABORATORY - DAY
...and along the corridor, tearing off her facemask and
biohazard suit. She puts her headset on.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Code nine! I need a clean up crew!
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - CORRIDOR - DAY
William walks along the corridor, minding his own business. He goes around a corner and sees John coming towards him, talking to a couple of jocks. John doesn't see William. William ducks back around the corner.
By the time John goes around the corner, William is nowhere in sight. John and the jocks walk off along the corridor, yucking it up.
William comes out of his hiding place. Ron and Carl come out of nowhere, making him jump.
CARL
Hey, Brainiac! Where you been hiding?
WILLIAM
Huh..?
RON
C'mon! We're gonna miss the start.
WILLIAM
You know, I don't really feel like it...
CARL
Don't feel like it?
RON
We've been planning this for weeks.
WILLIAM
(SHRUGS)
I've got it on dvd anyway...
CARL
What?! Are you a pod person, or something?
RON
Dvd..? It's not the same. You have to see it on the big screen.
CARL

CARL

WILLIAM
It's just a film...

INT. BILLY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
The place is packed. The music is so loud that the walls are shaking.
John and Rebecca are dancing in the living room, lost in a sea of bodies. Rebecca's a great dancer, like Cyd Charisse meets Shakira. John isn't so hot.
John gets around behind Rebecca, spooning up against her. She doesn't seem to enjoy it too much. He notices and frowns. He whispers in her ear. She doesn't look too happy about what he has to say, but she looks at him and nods.
He leads her across the room and up the stairs. A bunch of John's jock friends whoop and make obscene gestures. He laughs.
Rebecca gives them the finger, insulting them inaudibly. They don't care, still acting like monkeys.
John and Rebecca disappear upstairs.
Lacey walks into the room and looks around, smiling. She melts into the bodies on the dancefloor, bumping and grinding away. She grabs a girl from behind and pulls her up close, grinding her hips against the girl’s ass. The girl loves it. She turns to face Lacey and they get even closer, feeling each other up. They kiss.
The jocks enjoy the show, adlibbing in a non-PC fashion.
INT. BILLY’S HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT
The bedroom door opens and Rebecca walks in, her arms folded across her chest defensively.
John comes in after her and closes the door behind him.
Rebecca turns to face John, she opens her mouth to speak but he kisses her before she has chance to say anything. She pulls away from him.
JOHN
What..?
REBECCA
We need to talk...
JOHN
Oh, man... What the hell's wrong now?
REBECCA
I came up here to talk. That's all.
John moves towards her, trying to kiss her again.
JOHN
Don't be like that...
She moves away from him.
REBECCA
Why don't you ever listen to me?
JOHN
What..? What the fuck are you talking about? I listen...
She moves even further away from him.
JOHN
What the fuck is wrong with you? You've been acting like a total bitch all night...
Rebecca doesn't deny it.
REBECCA
I think we should see other people...
JOHN
(GRINNING)

John gets between Rebecca and the door. She tries to walk around him, but he grabs her roughly. She knees him in the balls before he has a chance to do anything to her. He doubles up in agony, crying out. She shoves him out of the way.

John drops to his knees, clutching his balls. Rebecca opens the door and leaves.
JOHN
(WEAKLY)

EXT. BILLY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
Rebecca leaves the house. It’s cold, so she pulls her sweater around herself tightly, shivering. She goes to her car and clicks off the alarm. She gets in and starts the engine.
INT. REBECCA'S CAR(MOVING) - NIGHT
She puts the car in gear and drives away. She pulls out her phone and dials. The other end picks up.
REBECCA
(INTO PHONE)
Hi. Is William there?
She listens.
REBECCA
(INTO PHONE)
Oh, okay... Can you tell him that Rebecca called?
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Rebecca's car passes an alley...
...a few moments later William, Ron and Carl come out of the alley. They don't see her, and she doesn’t see them.
William points at Billy’s house, not too far away.
WILLIAM
That's the place...
CARL
This is a really bad idea...
WILLIAM
Why'd you come then?
CARL
Desperate Housewives is a rerun, and I got nothing else to do...
EXT. BACK OF BILLY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
They sneak around the back of the house. Ron tries the back gate. It's locked. William jumps up and grabs the top of the fence. He inelegantly scrambles over the fence and half jumps, half falls into the garden.
EXT. BILLY’S HOUSE - GARDEN - NIGHT
He lands on the ground with a thump and finds himself face to face with Billy’s dog: a huge Rottweiller. The dog isn't chained up. It has a thick leather collar on, with vicious spikes all over it. A nametag hangs from the collar: SATAN.
William is rooted to the spot. But all Satan does is lick his face. He breathes a sigh of relief. He strokes the dog's head and it flops over onto it’s back. He tickles its belly and it’s back legs twitch.
WILLIAM
(SILLY VOICE)
Whosagoodboy? Yesyouare!
EXT. BACK OF BILLY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
Ron and Carl are getting impatient.
RON
William!?!
William opens the gate. Ron and Carl go into the garden. William locks the gate again.
EXT. BILLY’S HOUSE - GARDEN - NIGHT
Ron and Carl see Satan and react, scared.
WILLIAM
He won't hurt you.
William heads towards the house, patting Satan as he passes him. Ron and Carl follow him, eyeing the dog warily.
William tries the back door. It’s open. They go inside.
Alone in the garden now, Satan whines pathetically.
INT. BILLY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
William, Ron and Carl make their way through the party.
No-one pays much attention to them. They look around.
RON
So this is what a party's like?
He shrugs, not impressed.
A girl gets sprayed with a shaken up can of beer, soaking her blouse until it goes see-through. And she’s not wearing a bra. She screams with laughter, dancing as they spray her. Her breasts jiggle. People whoop and cheer.
A wide-eyed Ron changes his opinion.
BILLY, the host of the shindig, passes by with a crate of Budweiser.
BILLY
Here’s Billy with his Buds!
William, Ron and Carl all turn away so he doesn't see them, acting nonchalant. But he's not paying any attention anyway, too busy homing in on a jiggly giggly blonde.
William can't see Rebecca anywhere.
CARL
So we should just mingle..?
William just shrugs.
They split up.
William wanders around, looking for Rebecca. Someone pops a can open and foam sprays all over him. He doesn't really react. Typical day. He keeps moving.
Lacey starts an ice cube game, the cube is passed around a circle of beautiful people.
Ron has slipped into the circle, but the girl next to him pushes him away before he gets lucky. The game continues without Ron, who ends up on the floor.
Carl helps Ron to his feet.
RON
It was worth a try...
Carl nods.
Someone spikes the punch, pouring a cocktail of spirits into it.
Ron and Carl try some punch and are reduced to spluttering wrecks.
CARL
(WEAKLY)
Smooth...
Ron nods agreement. They help themselves to more punch.
William is still wandering around, looking a little lost. He bumps into someone, making them spill some of their drink. They turn and look at him. He tenses up, but all they do is grin at him, liquidly vacant, and clap him on the shoulder.
SOMEONE
Hey, man! How you doin'?! Is this a cool party or what?!
WILLIAM
(SMILING, NODDING)
Yeah... really... cool...
The someone laughs hysterically, completely out of it.
SOMEONE
Yeah, baby! Yeah!
William keeps on wandering around.
Ron and Carl work their way across the dancefloor.
Carl gets caught between a couple of girls who are dancing like something out of Showgirls. They end up rubbing up against him. They don't seem to mind. Carl can't believe his luck.
Ron gets wedged in between the jocks, who are all slam dancing. He tries to slip away, but they bounce him around like a pinball.
John comes down the stairs. Pissed off. He shoves someone out of the way. They react angrily, then recognize him and back off.
SOMEONE
Hey, take it easy, man...
John walks away without a word. Then he sees William and smiles.
JOHN
And I thought tonight was gonna be a washout...
William sees John. Oh, shit! He bolts for the front door. John goes after him.
The girls are grinding up against Carl, one of them moves in to kiss him. He's breathless with anticipation.
But just before their lips meet, William comes hurtling past and knocks Carl down. Carl ends up sprawled on the floor, he cries out in anguish.
CARL
So close!
Then he sees John going after William. So does Ron.
RON
Oh, shit!
The jocks quit playing with Ron and go after John to back him up.
William gets to the door, fumbles it open and runs out into the night.
John goes after William. The jocks fall in behind him.
EXT. STREET/GARDENS/ALLEYS - NIGHT
William runs along the street, pursued by John and the jocks. He runs across a garden and flops over a hedge. He stumbles, falls down, gets up and keeps running.
John and the jocks jump over the hedge easily.
William runs through a maze of backyards and alleys, his pursuers close behind. They lose sight of him when he ducks down an alley and hides behind a dumpster.
JOHN
(OFF)
Shit! Where'd he go?
JOCK
(OFF)
That way!
William hears their footsteps fade away. He pokes his head out when it seems safe.
And gets grabbed by John. He struggles, but can't get free. The jocks gather around them and lift William up, carrying him away on their shoulders. He struggles hopelessly. John follows, laughing his head off.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
William has been stripped and tied to a streetlight with his shirt. The only thing sparing his blushes is his Batman underwear. The rest of his clothes are scattered around nearby.
He hears someone coming and gets scared. He sees Ron and Carl tiptoeing towards him, looking around for any signs of trouble. They untie him without saying a word, then they help him to gather up his clothes. William gets dressed quickly.
They head off along the street.
WILLIAM
Think we can still catch Episode III?
INT. REBECCA'S CAR(MOVING) - NIGHT
Rebecca is lost in her thoughts as she drives along. She snaps out of it when her car starts to make that familiar grinding sound.
REBECCA
Shit!
Her car dies again. It coasts to a standstill. She turns the key a few times, but nothing happens.
REBECCA
God damn it!
Rebecca gets out of the car and starts kicking it and beating on it with her fists.
REBECCA
Lousy piece of shit goddamn son of a bitch useless hunka fuckin junk!!!!
INT. BILLY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
John rejoins the party, happy again after humiliating William. He grabs a beer and downs it in one. He crushes the can against his forehead and throws it over his shoulder. He notices Lacey looking at him from across the room. She doesn't look away, so he goes over to her.
JOHN
Hey, Lacey. I didn't think you'd show up.
LACEY
Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
John looks around.
JOHN
Is Kyle here?
Lacey points to a corner where Kyle is making out with a blonde. Kyle notices her looking and breaks away from the blonde just long enough to smile and wave. Lacey waves back, smiling broadly.

Lacey slinks in after John, closing the door behind her and locking it. She grabs John and kisses him, then she shoves him onto the bed.

I always thought you were little Miss Goody Two Shoes... I had no idea you were so...
Lacey's straddling him by now, she undoes his zipper and puts her hand in his pants. He stops talking.
She kisses him again, tearing his shirt open. She works her way down from his lips to his groin, kissing and licking and biting all the way. She pulls his pants down and starts sucking his cock.
John is putty in her hands. He just lies back and lets her take control. He suddenly goes bugeyed, amazed.
JOHN
Where the hell did you learn to do that?!
LACEY
(GRINNING)

She straddles him again, and he gasps. She starts working her hips, then she leans forward and kisses him.
EXT. BILLY’S HOUSE – NIGHT
A Humvee pulls up outside, flanked by several other vehicles.
Christina jumps out of the Humvee, armed with a machine gun. She locks and loads her weapon, checking the mechanism.
TROOPS jump out of the other vehicles and fan out.
CARTER and LEWIS step up to Christina’s side, she turns to face them.
CHRISTINA
I want the area cleared. Do it quick and do it quiet. Get everybody out. Give them any bullshit reason you want, just get it done.
Carter nods.
CARTER
Yes, ma'am.
Carter and Lewis rush off to do as ordered. Christina turns to Jones.
CHRISTINA
I want the perimeter secured until the area's clear.
Jones looks at the house.
JONES
There's gotta be something we can do for those kids...
CHRISTINA
It’s too late...
Jones nods sadly.
CHRISTINA
Secure the perimeter.
JONES
Yes, sir.
Again with the "sir". Jones rushes off.
Christina snaps a scope onto her gun and looks at the house through it. She frowns and lowers her gun.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Control, we are in position.

(OVER HEADSET)

EXT. SKY - ROGUES – NIGHT
THE ROGUES, a squad of Jet bombers, SCREAM through the sky, headed towards the town.
CONTROL
(OFF, OVER HEADSET)
The Rogues are on their way.
INT. BILLY’S HOUSE – NIGHT
Everything seems normal...
...but then about half of the people in the house start to mutate. The most notable ones are Kyle, the people who were playing the ice cube game and the girls who were dancing with Carl. Their bodies split open messily as the monsters inside them burst out of their human hosts.
People SCREAM in terror, running to get away.
A monster attacks a screaming partygoer, slashing them wide open with its claws. It tears at their flesh, devouring them.
Billy gets his throat torn out. His scream becomes a thick gurgle. He’s dead before he hits the floor.
INT. BILLY’S HOUSE – BEDROOM – NIGHT
John reacts to the SCREAMS. He tries to get up, but Lacey holds him down with one hand. She’s stronger than him and he can’t move. He looks up at her, afraid.
LACEY
(SMILING)
Relax. The party’s just getting started...
EXT. BILLY’S HOUSE – NIGHT
Christina and her team are spread out around the house. They react to the screams. They see blood splatter up the windows.
CHRISTINA
Hold your positions!
Jones takes a step towards the house.
JONES
We can’t just..!
CHRISTINA
(INTERRUPTS)
Hold your position!!
Jones reluctantly does as he’s told.
It all goes quiet. Christina reacts, tensing up...
INT. BILLY’S HOUSE – NIGHT
Every single surface is dripping with blood. It looks like a slaughterhouse. All of the guests are dead and monsters are tearing at the corpses.
A monster rips off Billy’s arm and swallows it whole.
Another monster sinks its teeth into Billy’s head, biting down so hard that his skull cracks. A geyser of blood and brain matter erupts, splattering up the walls.
Lacey comes down the stairs, fixing her make-up with a compact. Her clothes are drenched in John’s blood. She adds the finishing touches to her face and blows a kiss at her reflection.
She looks around. The monsters that aren't still feeding are looking to her for orders. She frowns at them and hisses.
They move, but not fast enough. She growls at them.
The monsters rush off into the night, breaking down the front door and shattering the windows to get out.
Lacey looks at herself again, like Narcissus in a c-cup. She smiles and snaps her compact shut.
EXT. BILLY’S HOUSE – NIGHT
Christina hears the monsters coming before she sees them.
CHRISTINA
We got trouble!
Monsters start to pour out of the house.
CHRISTINA
Take them out!
The troops snap into action, opening fire. Dozens of monsters are mown down, but just as many get past and attack the troops.
CHRISTINA
Hold your ground!
Christina and Jones blast away as everything around them turns to chaos.
A monster leaps at Jones and he blasts it out of the air. His gun clicks empty. He grabs a fresh cartridge. Another monster bears down on him before he has a chance to reload. He reacts.
Christina shoots the monster before it gets to Jones. He doesn't have time to thank her. He reloads and keeps blasting away.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Are we clear?!!?!
VOICE
(OVER HEADSET)
Negative.
CHRISTINA
Shit!!
She keeps firing.
JONES
There’s too many of them!
CHRISTINA
We can't let them get through!
They keep shooting.
A trooper is knocked down by a monster. He screams as it digs its claws into his face. Jones blasts the monster even though it's too late for the trooper.
JONES
Son of a bitch!
Jones' gun clicks empty.
JONES
I'm out of ammo!
Christina grabs a bandolier from a dead trooper and tosses it to Jones. He catches it, reloads and opens fire again.
A group of monsters breaks through the defensive line and runs off into the night. Christina and Jones see them go.
CHRISTINA
Fuck!
(INTO HEADSET)
Bright?! We've lost containment! Your team'll have to help us hunt down the runaways!
BRIGHT
(OVER HEADSET)
Yes, ma'am!
Christina's gun clicks empty. She grabs a fresh cartridge. As she reloads she sees Lacey step out of the house. She stares at Lacey, not sure what she's seeing.
Lacey smiles broadly and Christina knows she's not human. She snaps her gun up and takes aim. She shoots Lacey in the chest, a single shot that blows a huge chunk of flesh out through her back and splatters gore all over the door and walls behind her.
The shot rocks Lacey back, throwing her off balance, but she stays on her feet. The smile is wiped off her face and she doubles up. Then she straightens up, looks at Christina and smiles even wider.
Christina reacts.
CHRISTINA
Oh, shit...
Christina opens fire, full auto.
But Lacey dodges the gunfire with astonishing speed. She runs at Christina.
Christina's gun clicks empty. Shit!
A trooper tries to stop Lacey, blasting her at close range. But it doesn’t stop her. She grabs him and SNAPS his neck, tossing the corpse away. It bounces off a fence with a liquid smack. She keeps heading for Christina.
Christina reloads her gun, but Lacey grabs her before she has a chance to shoot and bends her gun arm back until it’s about to snap, forcing her to drop the gun.
Christina SCREAMS in pain. She lashes out and hits Lacey in the face, splitting her lip. Blood trickles down Lacey's chin. She pulls Christina close and licks her cheek, tasting her. She smiles.
Christina struggles to get loose, but Lacey has an iron grip. Christina pulls a knife with her free hand and stabs Lacey in the neck. The blade cuts her jugular and blood spurts all over Christina.
Lacey doesn’t even feel it. She grabs Christina's hand and pulls it away, leaving the knife stuck in her neck. She twists Christina’s arm. Christina headbutts Lacey, breaking her nose, but Lacey doesn’t let go.
Blood streams down Lacey’s face. She grabs Christina by the head and pulls her closer. Her tongue flicks in and out of her mouth and Christina sees that it's mutated, with some kind of strange glands on the tip. She reacts.
Lacey holds Christina’s mouth open and leans in like she’s going to kiss her. Christina struggles like mad, but it's useless.
Lacey’s tongue extends, snaking towards Christina. Christina tries to turn her head away, but she can’t. She cries out.
Jones comes out of nowhere and SMACKS Lacey in the head with the butt of his gun. The blow knocks Lacey off balance and Christina manages to break free and push her away.
Once Christina is clear, Jones blasts Lacey, emptying an entire clip into her.
The bullets rip through Lacey’s body, throwing her back like a rag doll. She hits the floor in a bloody mess, lying face down, motionless.
Christina snatches up her fallen gun and edges towards Lacey’s body. She kicks it over onto its back.
Lacey’s dead. But Christina shoots her again to be sure, blasting her in the chest and head. Her gun clicks empty.

(TO JONES)

Christina and Jones turn and run to the Humvee.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Rebecca is working on the engine of her car. She finishes up and slams the bonnet shut. She's filthy from the repairs.
She hears a SCREAM nearby and spins around, looking for the source. She can't see anything, but she knows she has to get moving.
She scrambles to get into her car, dropping her keys in the process. They go down a drain. She curses under her breath. She shoves her hand down the drain right away and manages to grab her keys. When she pulls her hand back out it's covered in gooey muck. She almost throws up.
INT./EXT. REBECCA'S CAR(MOVING) - NIGHT
She quickly gets into her car and starts the engine.
A monster lands on her roof, caving it in. She SCREAMS, terrified. She slams her car into reverse without thinking and goes backwards into a streetlight, buckling it and smashing the back of her car in.
The monster smashes a claw through the windshield and tries to slash her. She ducks down, avoiding it. She changes gear and stamps on the accelerator, speeding away.
The monster keeps trying to get at Rebecca. She leans back in her seat, trying to stay out of reach. She slams on the brakes and the monster flies off the roof, landing in the road ahead of her. It gets to its feet and gets ready to come at her again.
She steps on the gas and drives right at the monster. Her car slams into it and it bursts like a melon, blood and gore splatter all over the windshield. She can’t see where she’s going and her car slams into the back of a parked car.
The impact caves the front of Rebecca’s car in. The windshield shatters. The airbag inflates and stops Rebecca from getting hurt too badly, but she still gets thrown forward so hard that she blacks out.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
William, Ron and Carl hide in a bush and watch as troops round up townspeople and put them in trucks. TURNER is supervising.
CARL
What the fuck is going on!?!
William and Ron shush him.
WILLIAM
...i knew it... something came down in that meteorite and they wanna cover it up...
It's obvious that Ron and Carl agree.
CARL
...what do you think they're gonna do to everybody..?
WILLIAM
...i don't know... but whatever it is, they're not gonna do it to me...
RON
...we gotta get out of here before they find us...
William and Carl nod agreement.
The troops get the last of the people into the trucks.
TURNER
Move ‘em out!
Turner runs over to a truck and gets in. The trucks head off down the street.
William and the others wait until the coast is clear, then they come out of hiding.
RON
I can't believe this...
Carl sees something and is rooted to the spot. William and Ron don’t understand what’s wrong with him.
RON
What..?
Carl doesn't answer. They turn to see what he's looking at and they see a monster standing a few feet away, staring at them. They react.
WILLIAM
What the fuck?!
The monster roars and drowns out the naughty word. The roar shocks them into action and they run like crazy. The monster goes after them.
EXT. TREES - NIGHT
They run into a wooded area nearby, racing through the foliage. The monster is faster than them, but the trees slow it down. It loses sight of them. It sniffs the air, then bounds forward.
EXT. OUTFLOW PIPE - NIGHT
William, Ron and Carl are huddled in an outflow pipe set into an incline, dirty water streams past them, soaking them.
The monster is nearby. It tries to pick up their scent but the stink of the water is masking it. It roars, pissed off. They cower at the sound, holding their breath, staying completely silent.
The monster prowls around. It ends up standing above the mouth of the pipe, but it doesn't see or hear them.
The monster moves away, disappearing into the trees.
WILLIAM
Stay here... I’ll go get help...
He starts to get out of the pipe, but Ron and Carl pull him back.
CARL
Are you crazy..? You can’t...
WILLIAM
(INTERRUPTS)
We’ve gotta do something...
RON
It’s too dangerous...
But William isn’t listening. He wriggles out of their grip, jumps out of the pipe and runs for it.
Ron and Carl open their mouths to call him back, but before they can make a sound the monster comes bounding after William and the words die in their throats.
The monster doesn’t see Ron and Carl, it just goes after William.
EXT. TREES – NIGHT
William is running flat out. He hears the monster coming after him and glances back, the sight of it makes him run even faster.
William runs around a tree and dives into a bush. The monster loses sight of him and shoots right past.
EXT. BUSHES – NIGHT
William crawls out of the other side of the bush. He gets up and runs. He comes to a fence and scrambles over it awkwardly...
EXT. HOUSE – FRONT GARDEN – NIGHT
...and finds himself in the front garden of a house. The house is all lit up, but no-one’s home.
He flops down onto the ground, leaning against the fence, gasping for air.
A claw SMASHES through the fence as the monster tries to get at him. William jumps up and runs for it. The monster breaks through the fence and goes after him.
William runs across the garden. The monster bounds after him. He runs up to the house and tries the front door. It’s open.
INT. HOUSE - NIGHT
He tumbles in through the door and runs through the house.
The monster charges into the house. William slams a door in its face to slow it down. The monster slams up against the door, trying to break it down.
William runs into the kitchen. He bursts out through the back door and into the garden.
The monster breaks through the door and follows in William’s tracks, sniffing the air to catch his scent. It bounds forward.
EXT. HOUSE – BACK GARDEN - NIGHT
William is hiding around a corner, clutching a shovel. He hits the monster with the shovel the second it comes into sight.
The blade of the shovel digs deep into the monster’s neck, practically severing its head. Blood spurts from the wound. The monster collapses in a heap, dead.
William lets go of the shovel, leaving it stuck in the monster’s neck. He drops to his knees, sickened and excited at the same time. He catches his breath, then he yanks the shovel out of the monster’s neck and stands up. He’s born again hard and ready to go to war.
INT./EXT. REBECCA'S CAR - NIGHT
Rebecca is conscious now, but groggy from the impact. Her bottom lip is split, blood trickles down her chin.
She tries to open the door but it's stuck. So is the passenger side door. She gingerly climbs out through the shattered windshield, clambering over the gooey remains of the monster that she hit. She slips in its blood and tumbles off the hood, landing on the ground with a weak little yelp of pain.
EXT. STREET - HOUSES - NIGHT
She gets up and looks around. There's no-one in sight. She runs to the nearest house and bangs on the door. No-one answers.
She tries the next house.
And the next.
The lights are on, but no-one's home. Rebecca just stands there, lost.
REBECCA
...what the hell’s going on..?
She pulls out her phone and dials 911. All she gets is a recorded message telling her that all the operators are busy. She curses under her breath.
A hiss behind her makes her stiffen. She turns around slowly and sees a monster stalking towards her. She takes a step back, then turns and runs.
The monster bounds after her. She runs down the side of a house. She comes to a gate. It's locked. The monster is closing in. She jumps up and climbs over the gate. She drops down on the other side and keeps running.
The monster SLAMS into the gate and crashes through it, knocking it off its hinges.
EXT. GARDEN/GARDEN NEXT DOOR - NIGHT
Rebecca runs across the garden. She jumps up onto the roof of a kennel and jumps over a fence into the garden next door. She keeps on running, but then she stumbles and falls down. She looks back...
The monster jumps over the fence and closes in on her. She scrambles along the ground, trying to get away. It's about to leap at her. She SCREAMS.
But then a shovel SMACKS the monster in the face. It goes cross-eyed and collapses.
Rebecca looks up and sees William holding the shovel. He’s got his war face on. She opens her mouth to say something...
William hits the monster again.
And again.
And again and again.
And again.
The shovel is dripping with blood. Rebecca moves to William's side, she grabs him.
REBECCA
It's dead!
William stops. He’s shaking from the adrenaline. He hits the monster one last time.
ROARS fill the air.
Rebecca turns and runs, pulling William along with her.
REBECCA
Come on!
They run off across the garden. The back legs of the dead monster twitch pathetically.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
William and Rebecca run along the street. They can hear the monsters in the distance.
But not distant enough.
WILLIAM
We gotta get out of here!
Rebecca doesn't say anything. It's an understatement. They both look around desperately. William sees something and smiles...
A FEW SECONDS LATER...
William and Rebecca race along the street on a BMX. He's pedaling furiously. She's standing on the rear stunt hubs, holding onto William for dear life. She looks back and sees monsters coming after them.
REBECCA
Oh, God!
WILLIAM
What?!
He turns to look, but she grabs his head and makes him look where he’s going.
REBECCA
Just keep going!
William pedals harder.
WILLIAM
I know a short cut!
He cuts across a garden and into a wooded area.
INT. WOODED AREA/DIRT INCLINE – NIGHT
It’s harder going than on the street, but William keeps up the pace. Rebecca holds on tight.
They suddenly burst out of the wooded area and find themselves on the edge of a dirt incline that leads down sharply. He tries to stop the bike, but he can't and they go over the edge with a SCREAM.
They slide, roll, tumble and crash down the incline in a tangle of limbs and metal. They hit the ground below with a WHUMP, crumpled up in an agonised heap. The BMX is totaled.
REBECCA
...short cut..?
William doesn't say anything. They hear the monsters above and that gets them moving. They get up painfully. They look up at the top of the incline. A monster looks down over the edge at them and ROARS. They run for it.
The monster goes after them, but it loses its footing and tumbles down the incline. It lands at the bottom in a dazed heap.
A second monster looks over the edge, with what passes for a frown on its face.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
William and Rebecca run along the street. They rush around a corner and run right into Ron and Carl. They all SCREAM, terrified.
WILLIAM
FUCK!!!
Then they realize who it is and calm down, catching their breath.
CARL
Boy... Am I happy to see you guys...
They hear the ROARS of monsters nearby and jump out of their skins. Rebecca grabs William’s hand and pulls him along with her as she runs towards the nearest building...
The mall.
REBECCA
Come on!
Ron and Carl don’t need telling twice.
EXT./INT. MALL - NIGHT
The mall is open, all the lights are on, muzak is playing. But there's no-one in sight.
William, Rebecca, Ron and Carl run into the mall. They look around.
REBECCA
Hello?! Is anybody here!? Hello?!
Her voice echoes. No-one answers.
Ron, Carl and William call out as well. More echoes, no answers.
Rebecca bites her lip, thinking.
William tries a payphone. There's a dial tone. He dials 911, but he just gets the pre-recorded message. He slams the phone down.
WILLIAM
Shit!
Rebecca sees a gun shop on the second floor. She runs towards an escalator.
WILLIAM
Where are you going?!
REBECCA
We need guns!
(SHE LOOKS BACK AND GRINS)
Lots of guns!
They all agree. They follow her as she runs up the escalator to the gun shop.
EXT. STREET – NIGHT
Christina is supervising the evacuation of the last few townspeople.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Control, we are good to go.
CONTROL
(OVER HEADSET)
Copy that.
Jones runs over to her.
JONES
Someone just made a 911 call from inside the perimeter... They didn’t stay on the line long enough for us to trace them...
CHRISTINA
If they call again patch it through to me...
INT. MALL – GUN SHOP - NIGHT
The door's open. Rebecca goes right on in and looks around. William and the others rush in after her.
REBECCA
Just grab whatever you can carry.
WILLIAM
Then what?
REBECCA
I don't know... We need to find somebody, anybody...
Rebecca grabs a rucksack and starts to throw things into it.
Ron and Carl wander around, looking at different weapons.
William jumps over the counter and looks at the guns in the racks. He picks up a gun and fiddles with it uncertainly.
REBECCA
Do you even know what you're doing?
WILLIAM
How hard can it be..?
Rebecca snatches the gun from William's hands. She grabs a box of ammo and loads the gun, her movements are deft, expert. William stares at her.
WILLIAM
Where'd you learn to do that..?
REBECCA
Summer camp.
She shows William how to work the safety and how to reload.
REBECCA
You got it?
William nods. He practices the procedures.
Ron is hefting a crossbow, loving it.
Carl is eyeing the contents of a locked glass cabinet, particularly a .44 Magnum. He's practically drooling.
CARL
Oh, baby... Come to papa...
Carl tries to smash the cabinet with his elbow, but all he does is hurt himself. He cries out.
Rebecca grabs a stool and smashes the cabinet with it. Carl smiles at her.
CARL
Thanks.
Rebecca grins.
Carl grabs the Magnum. He does a Clint Eastwood pose, sneering at imaginary scumbags.
CARL
Go ahead, punk... Make my day!
William comes out from behind the counter.
WILLIAM
We gotta get moving.
They all nod.
Rebecca grabs a shotgun and loads it. She grabs boxes of ammo, stuffs them into the rucksack, then slings the rucksack over her shoulder.
REBECCA
We oughta head for the toll bridge, then we can get across the river and into the city...
Everyone agrees. They all grab as much ammo as they can carry. Rebecca leads the way as they leave the store.
INT. MALL - NIGHT
They head for the exit quickly, looking all around for danger and trying to stay calm.
They pass a jeep on display in a store window.
William comes back and looks at the jeep. A lightbulb pops up over his head. He goes into the store and gets into the window.
INT. MALL – DISPLAY WINDOW - NIGHT
William tries the jeeps doors but they're locked. The others come back to see what he's up to. He yells something to them, but they can't hear him through the glass.
Rebecca gets into the window too.
REBECCA
What are you doing?
WILLIAM
(REFERRING TO JEEP)
Four wheel drive.
It makes sense to Rebecca.
WILLIAM
...but...
He tries the doors again. Still locked. Rebecca nods. She does something and gets the driver's side door open. William looks at her. Like, how?
REBECCA
Don't ask...
He doesn't ask. Ron and Carl are in the window now too. Rebecca gets into the jeep. She looks at the others.
REBECCA
(GRINS)
Wanna go for a ride?
EXT. MALL - NIGHT
The jeep comes ROARING out of the mall, smashing through the doors.
INT. JEEP(MOVING) - NIGHT
Rebecca's driving. William's in the passenger seat. Ron and Carl are in the back.
Rebecca speeds across the parking lot and heads for the toll bridge, way off in the distance.
Ron is looking a little green. Carl pats him on the back, trying to be supportive.
CARL
(ALMOST BELIEVES IT)
It's gonna be alright...
RON
It's not that...
He really looks queasy.
RON
...travel sickness...
The jeep hits a bump. Ron looks really ill.
REBECCA
(TO RON)
Sorry...
Ron mumbles something. No-one understands. Rebecca makes a turn.
WILLIAM
It's faster if you go through Elmwood.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
The jeep zips past a sign pointing to Elmwood, but it’s going in the opposite direction.
WILLIAM
(OFF)
...but Alpine's good too...
INT. JEEP(MOVING) – NIGHT
Rebecca hands her phone to William.
REBECCA
Try calling 911 again.
William grabs the phone and dials. He gets the recorded message again.
WILLIAM
It's just that message again...
He's about to hang up, when...
CHRISTINA
(OVER PHONE)
Hello?
He reacts, surprised.
WILLIAM
(INTO PHONE)
Hey! Help... We need help! There are these... things... and they...
The others react when they realise he’s talking to a human being.
CHRISTINA
(INTERRUPTS, OVER PHONE)
We know. Are you alone?
WILLIAM
(INTO PHONE)
No... There are four of us...
CHRISTINA
(OVER PHONE)
Okay. Where are you?
WILLIAM
(INTO PHONE)
We're on Alpine, headed for the toll bridge.
CHRISTINA
(OVER PHONE)
Good. Just keep going. We'll meet you at the bridge.
WILLIAM
(INTO PHONE)
Okay.
The line clicks as Christina disconnects.
REBECCA
Well..?
WILLIAM
They’re gonna meet us at the bridge.
REBECCA
Who? The cops? What?
WILLIAM
I don't know...

You don't know..?

Rebecca's about to say something, but Carl interrupts.

Good point. The engine begins to sputter.

The engine dies. The jeep rolls to a halt.
The fuel gauge is reading a full tank. Rebecca taps the glass and it drops down to empty.

The bridge isn't too far away... We can make it...

EXT. STREET - NIGHT
A Humvee ROARS along the street.
INT. HUMVEE(MOVING) – NIGHT
Carter is driving, with Lewis riding shotgun. Christina and Jones are in the back.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
The Rogues have to stand down! I need more time!
CONTROL
(OVER HEADSET)
Negative. We can't risk the exposure.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
God damn it! We can't firebomb a bunch of kids!
CONTROL
(OVER HEADSET)
You have your orders!
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Fifteen minutes! That's all I need...
Silence from Control for a few moments, then...
CONTROL
(OVER HEADSET)
Negative.
Christina rips off her headset.
CHRISTINA
Fuck!
She punches the roof of the Humvee.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
The Humvee heads for the toll bridge.
EXT. A DIFFERENT STREET - NIGHT
William and the others are running like crazy. Rebecca has the shotgun slung over her shoulder.
They come to a fence and stop dead. The fence seems to stretch away forever to the left and the right.
Rebecca jumps up, but the fence is too high for her to grab the top and pull herself up.
REBECCA
Help me up!
They help her. They can see right up her skirt. She’s wearing Wonder Woman underoos.
William gets a dopey grin on his face. Ron and Carl just leer like Benny Hill.
Rebecca looks down and catches them looking. William blushes, but Ron and Carl have no shame. She smiles at William.
REBECCA
You little perv.
William grins.
Rebecca goes over the top of the fence. They hear a thump as she lands awkwardly on the other side.
WILLIAM
You okay?!
REBECCA
(OFF, SMALL)
Yeah...
Ron and Carl help William up next. He goes over the top and flops down on the other side.
He lands on top of Rebecca and they end up on the floor in a tangled heap, with Rebecca on top. They look deep into each others’ eyes, lost in the moment, about to kiss...
But then they hear cries, crashes, thumps and bangs from the other side of the fence and they snap out of it, worried about Ron and Carl. They get up quickly.
Gunshots ring out, then it all goes quiet.
WILLIAM
RON!? CARL?!
No answer.
A monster leaps up onto the top of the fence, hissing at them. They cry out in anguish, fearing the worst.
WILLIAM
NO!!!
William pulls out his gun and opens fire. He misses every time...
...except for the last time. That shot nails the monster right between the eyes, blowing its head apart. His gun clicks empty.
The ROARS of more monsters fill the air, headed right for them.
Rebecca grabs William and drags him with her as she runs away.
Monsters swarm over the fence and go after them.
EXT./INT. HIGH SCHOOL – NIGHT
William and Rebecca run towards the school. The place is deserted, all the lights are out.
Monsters are closing in on them.
William tries the front doors. They’re locked. He backs up, then takes a run up and shoulder charges the doors. But he doesn’t break them down, he just hurts himself.
WILLIAM
...fuck...
Rebecca grabs hold of William and shoves him out of the way, then she levels the shotgun at the doors and blows the locks off. She kicks the doors open and runs into the school, dragging William with her.
Monsters charge in after them.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – CORRIDOR – NIGHT
The interior is lit by the moonlight that filters in through the many windows.
William and Rebecca run along the corridor, with monsters snapping at their heels. They go through the nearest door.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – ROOM - NIGHT
William and Rebecca burst into the room and shut the door, holding it closed while monsters slam against it trying to get in.
They look around the room and realize that there's no way out.
WILLIAM
Shit!
They quickly barricade the door. Monsters keep slamming against it.
William looks around helplessly. Rebecca sees an air vent up on the ceiling.
REBECCA
Give me a boost up to that vent!
William links his hands together to make a step for Rebecca. She puts her foot in his hands and he boosts her.
It doesn't quite work and she ends up with one of her legs hooked over his shoulder. He staggers around, barely able to keep balanced.
Rebecca tries to reach the vent but she can't.
REBECCA
I can't reach it!
Rebecca stretches as far as she can. But she still can't reach the vent. She climbs up William, kneeling on his shoulders. It hurts William.
Rebecca can almost reach the vent. She stretches and her fingers brush against it.
REBECCA
Lift me up!
William tries to, but...
WILLIAM
I can't...
REBECCA
C'mon!
One of the monsters shatters the glass in the door.
REBECCA
DO IT!!!
William gets a better grip on Rebecca and lifts her with all his strength. She's high enough to remove the vent cover now. She pulls it off and drops it on the floor. She grabs the sides of the ventilation shaft and pulls herself up into it, stepping on his head in the process. He curses under his breath.
The door starts to buckle. Rebecca reaches down to William.
REBECCA
William!!
He jumps up and grabs her hands, and she pulls him up into the shaft just as the monsters burst in.
William's kicking legs disappear into the shaft just as a monster jumps up and tries to grab him.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – VENTILATION SHAFT - NIGHT
Rebecca and William crawl along the shaft as fast as they can. He's got a nice view as he follows her. He gets that dopey grin again.
A monster tries to get into the shaft, but it can't fit.
Rebecca and William keep going. The sound of the monsters fades away.
They reach an intersection of shafts and they stop.
REBECCA
Which way?
WILLIAM
I don't know...
Rebecca looks back and forth between the different shafts. She chews her lip as she thinks, then...
REBECCA
This way...
Rebecca sets off down one of the shafts. William follows her. They keep going until they come to an up and down intersection. She looks down the shaft.
REBECCA
I think we're near the kitchen...
William is about to say something when a claw PUNCHES up through the floor of the shaft between them. William jumps back, crying out in shock. Rebecca is startled and falls backwards down the shaft with a SSSCCCCRRRRRRREEEEAAAMMMM!!!
WILLIAM
REBECCA!!!
Claws tear at the shaft again. William has no choice but to go back the way he came.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – ANOTHER VENTILATION SHAFT - NIGHT
Rebecca tumbles down the shaft and round a corner.
She slides down a connecting shaft, the shotgun skittering along with her. She comes to the end of the shaft and crashes into the vent cover with teeth rattling force.
She whimpers in pain, the wind knocked out of her. She lies there for an agonized moment, in a foetal position. Then she gets up and looks out through the vent cover.
She sees an apparently empty corridor. She waits, watching. The corridor seems safe.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – CORRIDOR - NIGHT
Rebecca kicks off the vent cover and it crashes to the floor noisily. She curses under her breath, waiting for the worst.
Nothing happens.
She drops down out of the shaft, shotgun in hand. She looks around, shotgun up and ready.
She moves along the corridor, slowly and carefully. Her eyes are everywhere. She comes to a door and looks through the glass. She can't see anything.
She reaches out to open the door...
A monster looms up on the other side of the door, its face slamming against the glass.
Rebecca SCREAMS and backs away, she stumbles and trips, falling over. The shotgun falls from her hand and skitters away. She gets up, snatches up the shotgun and runs along the corridor.
Two monsters crash through the door and bound after her.
She stops running long enough to shoot, hitting one of the monsters in the head and killing it. She misses the other one and it keeps coming. She turns and runs.
She goes through another door, into the cafeteria, and bolts it shut behind her.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – CAFETERIA – NIGHT
Rebecca dashes across the cafeteria.
The monster bangs against the door in a frenzy. Within seconds, the door starts to splinter.
Rebecca turns and blasts the door, blowing a huge hole in it and killing the monster. Rebecca breathes a sigh of relief. She turns and comes face to face with another monster. She SCREAMS.
The monster slashes at her, but she dodges the blow, dropping to the floor and crawling between its legs. It tries to grab her, but she wriggles away. The straps on her rucksack get slashed and it gets left behind.
The monster slashes at her again, but she scrambles under a lunch table and it shatters the table instead. When the two broken halves of the table fall down, Rebecca is nowhere to be seen. The monster looks around, confused for a moment, but then it sniffs the air.
Rebecca is hiding around a corner, edging away slowly, trying not to make any noise.
The monster moves forward, still sniffing. Its claws dig deep grooves in the floor.
Rebecca takes a deep, slow breath, then she runs for her life.
The monster hears her move and runs right towards the noise. It goes around the corner. It sees her and moves faster.
Rebecca barges through a set of doors. The doors swing shut behind her.
The monster goes after her.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL - CORRIDOR - NIGHT
The monster crashes through the doors and finds itself in a long corridor that stretches away in both directions. There’s no sign of Rebecca. It sniffs the air, gets a scent of something, ROARS, then takes off running.
It charges along the corridor and crashes through a door into one of the classrooms.
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – CLASSROOM/CORRIDOR OUTSIDE CLASSROOM - NIGHT
The classroom seems to be empty. The monster moves forward, slowly and deliberately. It hooks its claws under the teacher's desk and flips it over, revealing Rebecca.
She jams the shotgun up against the monster's neck before it can slash her, the monster knows what's coming next and it shows in its eyes.
Rebecca pulls the trigger. The shotgun clicks empty. Rebecca's mental state is written on her face.
The monster seems to smile. It pulls back a claw, ready to strike. But Rebecca whips the shotgun around and smacks the monster in the face with the butt, batting it away from her.
She tries to run for it, but the monster gets between her and the door.
Rebecca backs up against the wall. The monster looks at her, its tongue flicking in and out of its mouth. It slowly moves towards her. She tries not to panic, looking for a way to escape. The monster suddenly darts forward and leaps at her. She SCREAMS.
But then a high pressure jet of water hits the monster and sends it flying across the room, away from Rebecca. She looks around and sees William in the doorway, aiming a fire hose at the monster. She breaks into a huge grin.
WILLIAM
Come on!
He keeps blasting the monster with water and Rebecca runs for it. The monster tries to get past the jet of water, but it can't. The water begins to pool on the floor.
When Rebecca is only halfway to the door, the hose starts to run out, the stream weakening.
WILLIAM
SHIT!!!
The water stops altogether, nothing but a dribble comes out.
The monster shakes itself off and gets ready to pounce. William and Rebecca don't know what to do.
The monster bounds towards them.
Rebecca keeps running, but she knows she won't get away.
William sees a fish tank on a nearby table and inspirado strikes. He kicks the table over and the tank goes flying.
The monster is only a few steps behind Rebecca.
William drops the hose, grabs Rebecca and pulls her with him as he runs out the door.
The fish tank hits the floor and shatters. The filtration pump cracks open and the electrics inside it hit the pool of water that covers the classroom floor...
...and the monster gets hit by a surge of electricity.
Rebecca and William leap for safety, clearing the water before they get shocked too. They scramble away along the corridor.
The monster judders and spasms, SCREAMING as the electricity fries it.
A circuit breaker kicks in and the power in the classroom cuts out. The monster's smoking corpse collapses into the steaming water.
Rebecca and William flop down onto the floor, exhausted.
REBECCA
(BREATHLESS)
...that was close...
William nods, too out of breath to speak.
More monsters burst into the corridor.
Rebecca gets up awkwardly and runs, dragging William along with her. They run into a nearby storeroom...
INT. HIGH SCHOOL – STOREROOM – NIGHT
...and slam the door behind them, barely able to hold it shut as monsters slam up against it.
Rebecca finds the light switch and clicks it on. They look around. There really is no way out of this room. They react.
REBECCA
(SMALL)
...fuck...
They barricade the door with everything that’s not nailed down. It doesn’t do any good. The door starts to buckle.
Rebecca and William know it won't hold out much longer. They can't do anything now but wait for the inevitable.
WILLIAM
Looks like I’ll have to take a raincheck on Saturday night...
Rebecca laughs. The door is almost buckled now. Her laughter fades.
REBECCA
(SADLY)
That's okay...
They look at each other. The world melts away and all they see is each other. They move in for a kiss...
Gunshots suddenly ring out. Monsters roar. They both react, looking at the door.
Then everything falls silent.
They wait.
More gunshots ring out. And more monster roars. William and Rebecca don't move a muscle, staring at the door.
Someone or something pounds on the door, forcing it open the rest of the way...
Jones comes into the storeroom. He has a flashlight attached to his gun. He sees William and Rebecca, arms still around each other.
JONES
(WRYLY)
We could come back later if you two need a little private time..?
William and Rebecca don't say anything. Christina and Carter come in after Jones. Christina looks at William and Rebecca.
CHRISTINA
Where are the other two?
WILLIAM
We got split up... those things...
He can’t say it, he trails off.
CHRISTINA
We'll find them.
Lewis appears in the doorway.
LEWIS
(SHAKING HIS HEAD)
There's no-one else here.
CHRISTINA
Bring the Humvee around. We're getting out of here.
Lewis nods. He turns to leave. And a monster leaps on him. He SCREAMS as it tears into his flesh.
Everyone reacts.
Christina blasts away at the monster, killing it. She runs over to Lewis' side. He's dead.
CHRISTINA
Oh, God...
Jones doesn't say anything. Christina turns to Carter.
CHRISTINA
Go get the Humvee...
Carter nods. She heads for the doorway, gun up and ready. Christina grabs her by the arm, Carter looks at her.
CHRISTINA
Be careful.
Carter nods, smiling slightly. Christina lets go of her arm and she heads out of the storeroom.
Christina reloads her gun.
William gazes at her in googly eyed adoration.
Rebecca notices, and she doesn't like it. She elbows him to snap him out of it. It hurts. He looks at her.
WILLIAM
What's wrong with you..?
Rebecca just gives him an evil look.
Christina heads for the door.
CHRISTINA
Let's get moving.
Rebecca grabs hold of Christina, stopping her.
REBECCA
What the fuck's going on?! What are those things??!!!
Christina shoves past Rebecca.
CHRISTINA
I don't have time for this...
Rebecca grabs Christina again, pulling her around to face her.
REBECCA
Make time!
Christina smiles, amused to be getting attitude from a schoolgirl.
CHRISTINA
Do I look like Basil Exposition..?
Rebecca gives Christina a dirty look.
CHRISTINA
You wanna know the truth? We don't know what's going on.
REBECCA
Oh...
CHRISTINA
Anything else?
Rebecca shakes her head. Christina heads for the door.
INT./EXT. HIGH SCHOOL - NIGHT
Christina leads the way as they leave the building. Jones brings up the rear.
Progress is slow. They use their flashlights to light the way, and check thoroughly before every step they take.
When they get outside they find the Humvee unattended with the engine running. The windshield is shattered, the roof is torn open, blood is splattered everywhere, the seats are slashed, the tyres are burst.
JONES
Oh, God...
Christina curses under her breath. She looks around, gun up and ready.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Carter? You there?
No response.
CHRISTINA
(SMALL)
Damn it...
(INTO HEADSET)
Bright? Where are you?
BRIGHT
(OVER HEADSET)
Sector eight.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Wait for us there.
BRIGHT
(OVER HEADSET)
Acknowledged.
CHRISTINA
(TO JONES)
We'll head east and meet up with Delta Team. Double time it!
They set off, still bookending William and Rebecca, still alert. Every little noise makes them react. They keep up a fast pace.
They go around a corner and see a huge playing field stretched out ahead of them. Christina stops dead.
CHRISTINA
Wait here.
Christina moves forward slowly, checking the area. Jones and the others wait, on tenterhooks.
William is nervous. Rebecca holds his hand to comfort him. He looks at her and she smiles reassuringly.
Christina is halfway across the field. She hears something and spins around, but she doesn't fire. She waits, not even breathing. Nothing happens and she moves on.
She reaches the end of the field and looks around. When she's sure it's safe she gives Jones a signal.
He nods. Then he leads William and Rebecca across the field, quick and cautious.
They get to Christina's side. Then they keep moving. They reach the fence that surrounds the school grounds.
Jones uses boltcutters to cut a hole in the fence. Christina keeps watch while he works.
Jones takes out a section of the fence, big enough for them to go through one at a time. He goes through first, then Rebecca, then William.
Christina holds up the rear, going through last.
They look around, taking no chances. Then they head off, still going east.
EXT. STREET – NIGHT
Christina and the others come running along the street. BRIGHT and her team are waiting for them.
Bright salutes Christina. Christina returns the salute, then points at William and Rebecca.
CHRISTINA
Get these two to the base.
Bright nods. She moves towards Rebecca and William.
BRIGHT
Come with me.
They follow her to a nearby vehicle. Bright opens the back doors and they get in. She closes the doors and locks them.
Christina walks over to Bright's side.
CHRISTINA
Make sure they go easy on them.
Bright smiles and nods. She jumps up onto the running board on the passenger side and smacks the roof of the vehicle.
BRIGHT
Let's go!
DAVIES is behind the wheel. She starts the engine and the vehicle heads off, with Bright riding on the running board.
Christina and Jones run to a waiting Humvee.
EXT. ANOTHER STREET - NIGHT
Ron and Carl run along the street, still very much alive.
But monsters are closing in on them.
Christina’s Humvee ROARS along the street, skidding to a halt between them and the monsters.
Christina jumps out of the Humvee and machine guns the monsters. Ron and Carl stare at her, googly eyed as well.
CHRISTINA
Get in!
Christina hustles them into the Humvee and they speed away.
EXT. A DIFFERENT STREET - NIGHT
The vehicle with William and Rebecca in the back thunders along the street. Bright is still riding on the running board.
INT./EXT. VEHICLE(MOVING) - NIGHT
William and Rebecca are sitting on benches in the back.
William nurses a cut on his arm gingerly. Rebecca pulls a handful of wadded up tissue out of her bra and offers it to him. He just stares at her, devastated. She laughs.
REBECCA
Get over it!
William grins.
Something slams into the vehicle on the driver’s side and shakes it. William and Rebecca react.
Bright holds on tight.
BRIGHT
Shit!
Bright looks around, but she can't see anything.
Davies looks in the wing mirror. She can't see anything. She looks in the passenger side mirror. Nothing.
Then a claw SMASHES in through the driver’s side window and clamps onto her face. Davies SCREAMS. She gets yanked out through the window in a shower of blood and broken glass.
Bright reacts.
BRIGHT
DAVIES!?!
The driverless vehicle is heading for a wall.
Bright scrambles into the driver's seat and turns the wheel, heading away from the wall. She looks all around, but still can’t see what hit them.
William and Rebecca have their faces pressed up against a hatch, looking into the cab of the vehicle.
REBECCA
What happened?!
But Bright doesn’t answer. She keeps looking around for trouble.
BRIGHT
(INTO HEADSET)
We got hit! Davies is dead!
CHRISTINA
(OVER HEADSET)
Where are you?
Bright looks around.
BRIGHT
(INTO HEADSET)
Lynch and O'Carroll!
CHRISTINA
(OVER HEADSET)
Keep heading for the base. We'll come get you.
William and Rebecca are frantic.
WILLIAM
Get us out of here!
BRIGHT
It’s gonna be alright...
A monster slashes the tyres on the left hand side of the vehicle. Bright reacts.
BRIGHT
Son of a bitch!
Bright fights to keep the vehicle under control, but it goes into a skid and flips over. They all get tossed around.
Bright's head smacks against the roof and she blacks out.
The vehicle lands right side up again, with a buckled chassis.
William and Rebecca are a mess of tangled limbs. He gets up slowly, in pain. He helps Rebecca to her feet.
WILLIAM
You okay..?
Rebecca nods, rubbing her aching neck. William tries the back doors, but they're locked. They don't know what to do.
Something lands on top of the vehicle with a THUD, caving the roof in a little. They look up, rooted to the spot.
SOMETHING pounds on the roof, trying to break through.
William runs at the back doors, he throws himself at them trying to get them open.
The roof is caving in. The metal starts to tear.
William keeps trying to open the doors. He looks at Rebecca.
WILLIAM
HELP ME!!!
But Rebecca has another idea. She runs to the hatch and looks through into the cab.
She can see Bright sprawled there, guns in holsters on her hips. Rebecca reaches through the hatch, her fingers brush against the butt of one of the guns.
WILLIAM
What are you doing?!
Rebecca stretches. Her fingers curl around the butt. She pulls the gun out of the holster. And through the hatch. She turns to face the doors.
William sees what she's doing and runs to her side, out of harm’s way.
The roof is torn open. By human hands. They see this, but don't have time to think about it.
Rebecca shoots the doors, blowing off the lock. The doors swing open.
The roof is completely torn off.

William and Rebecca make a break for it.
Rebecca sees Lacey standing on top of the vehicle and it's too much for her to process. She keeps running.
EXT. VEHICLE/STREET - NIGHT
William and Rebecca run away from the vehicle. Lacey watches them go, her head tilted. She sniffs the air, then she HOWLS.
And monsters rush after William and Rebecca.
Lacey jumps down off the top of the vehicle. She looks in through the windshield at Bright, who's starting to come around.
Lacey rips the passenger side door off and grabs Bright's leg, pulling her out. She looks her over closely, sniffing at her and licking her face. Lacey smiles and drags Bright away.
EXT. STREET – NIGHT
Christina’s Humvee speeds along the street.
INT. HUMVEE(MOVING) – NIGHT
Christina is driving. Jones is in the back with Ron and Carl.
CHRISTINA
(INTO HEADSET)
Bright?!
Christina sees something and reacts.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Christina’s Humvee pulls up next to the wrecked vehicle. Christina and Jones jump out. They see the damage.
JONES
Damn it!
Christina looks around. Determined. She sees the tracks left by William and Rebecca.
And the monsters.
Christina points at Ron and Carl.
CHRISTINA
Get them back to the base.
JONES
What are you doing..?
CHRISTINA
I'm gonna find them...
JONES
(HATES TO SAY IT)
There's no time! We have to go!
CHRISTINA
Hey, it ain't over until the fat lady sings...
(GRINS)
...and I can't hear her.
Jones nods. He takes his weapons belt off and throws it to Christina. She catches it and straps it on. She heads away, calling back over her shoulder.
CHRISTINA
Get out of here!
Jones salutes, smiling.
JONES
Yes, sir!
Jones jumps in the Humvee and it speeds away.
EXT. TREES - NIGHT
Christina rushes through the trees.
EXT. DEEPER IN THE TREES - NIGHT
William and Rebecca run for their lives. Monsters are right on their heels.
William trips and falls down. Rebecca helps him up and they keep running.
A monster leaps at them. They SCREAM.
It all goes black.
EXT. TREES - NIGHT
Christina finds Rebecca's sweater, all torn up. But there’s no blood on it. She keeps following the tracks, moving slowly and cautiously.
Monsters rush at her and she opens fire, killing them. She keeps moving. She comes out of the trees and stops dead, looking around. She sees a building nearby and breaks into a run.
INT. BUILDING - ROOM – NIGHT
Lacey drags Bright into the room. Bright is conscious, but groggy and unable to get away. Lacey hauls Bright to her feet.
Lacey’s tongue flicks in and out of her mouth. The glands on her tongue are swollen, pink fluid drips from them.
Bright is more alert now, she sees Lacey’s tongue and she struggles like mad to get free, but it’s useless. Lacey forces Bright’s mouth wide open.
Lacey’s tongue lashes out at Bright and she SCREAMS.
EXT. BUILDING – NIGHT
Christina moves towards the building, ready for anything.
She goes inside...
INT. BUILDING - ROOM – NIGHT
Bodies are hanging upside down from the ceiling, held up by slimy goo. The bodies are liquefying, losing their shape.
One of the bodies is Lacey’s dad. His face is distorted, his features stretched out hideously.
Christina makes her way into the room, gun up and ready. She looks at the bodies. She sees Bright’s body among them and reacts.
CHRISTINA
Oh, God...
She moves forward, slowly and cautiously. She reaches out and touches Bright’s body, a thick layer of slime oozes up over her fingers. She pulls her hand away, shaking off the slime.
A noise behind her snaps her into action, she whirls around, bringing her gun up, ready to fire. But there's nothing there. She doesn't relax, waiting, watching.
Lacey grabs Christina from above. She’s sticking to the ceiling like Spider-Man.
Lacey hauls Christina up off her feet, she drops her gun. She struggles, but she can't get free.
Lacey's tongue flicks at Christina, trying to get into her mouth. Christina clamps her mouth shut and keeps struggling.
Lacey pulls Christina closer, forcing her mouth open. Lacey’s tongue is about to lash out...
...when Christina pulls a knife and stabs Lacey under the chin, pinning her tongue to the roof of her mouth. Lacey cries out in muffled agony and loses her grip on Christina.
Christina crashes to the floor and snatches up her fallen gun, she opens fire.
But Lacey bounds away across the ceiling, avoiding the gunfire. The gun clicks empty and Christina grabs an ammo belt from Bright’s body. She reloads quickly.
Lacey is nowhere in sight.
Christina hears hissing and scratching as monsters start to close in on her. She starts blasting away.
She runs for it, blowing apart monsters as they rush at her. Her gun clicks empty. She pulls a grenade from her belt and pops the pin. She throws the grenade over her shoulder and keeps running, reloading her gun as she goes.
The grenade explodes and she dives for cover.
The blast blows several monsters apart.
Christina hits the ground rolling and comes right back up onto her feet, ready for trouble. It's all quiet now.
Christina makes her way through the room, looking all around. And above. She doesn't see or hear anything.
INT. BUILDING – ANOTHER ROOM - NIGHT
William and Rebecca are hanging upside down from the ceiling. They’re held up by the same slimy goo that’s holding the others up, but they’re alive and well.
They just hang there, helpless.
REBECCA
(SMALL)
...we’re gonna die...
William just whimpers in reply. He turns to face Rebecca as best as he can.
WILLIAM
You know... I...
They make eye contact. She waits for him to say it.
WILLIAM
I love you.
Rebecca smiles like the Cheshire Cat after he got the cream. Then...
REBECCA
Well... duh!
That puts a smile on William’s face. Rebecca holds her hand out to him, he tries to take it, but they’re so far apart that all they can do is brush fingertips. It’s enough.
A HISS echoes around the room and they react. They look around and see two monsters coming towards them. They hang there limply, unable to do anything.
The monsters are close now...
They suddenly get blown apart by machine gun fire. Their shredded corpses crash to the floor.
Rebecca and William look around and see Christina. They've never been so happy to see anyone. But relief soon gives way to practicality.
REBECCA
Get us down!
Christina machine guns the ceiling around their feet. The ceiling gives and they fall down. They hit the floor hard, getting bruised. They manage to pull most of the goo off themselves and get free.
CHRISTINA
Let’s go!
WILLIAM
What about the others..?
CHRISTINA
It's too late!
REBECCA
We have to do something...
CHRISTINA
There's nothing we can do... And I'm not gonna lose you two as well... Let's go!
Christina hustles them along, looking for a way out.
EXT. SKY - ROGUES - NIGHT
Rogue One swoops down, the other Rogues follow.
EXT. BUILDING – NIGHT
A door flies open, kicked off its hinges by Christina. She runs out of the building, gun up and ready. She looks all around. The coast is clear.
CHRISTINA
Come on!!
Rebecca and William follow in her footsteps. They run away from the building, with Christina covering them.
Monsters come running out of the building and go after them.
EXT. SKY - ROGUES – NIGHT
The Rogues SCREAM through the air.
EXT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP – NIGHT
Rebecca, William and Christina run towards the autoshop.
Monsters are right behind them. Christina blasts away, killing several monsters.
Rebecca runs into a workshop, dragging William with her. Christina runs in after them, still blasting away at the monsters.
INT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP – WORKSHOP – NIGHT
Rebecca slams the door shut. Monsters slam up against the door and force it open a little. William helps her, but they can’t get the door shut.
A monster gets its head and one of its arms around the door.
The monster starts to force the door open.
Christina helps Rebecca and William. She throws all her weight against the door, slamming the door on the monster’s head. It tries to slash her.
Christina shoots the monster in the head. Killing it. She shoves the remains out of the way and slams the door shut, locking it.
More monsters slam against the door.
Christina pops the magazine out of her gun and counts the bullets. Only seven left.
CHRISTINA
SHIT!!!
She turns and looks at Rebecca and William.
CHRISTINA
I'm sorry...
REBECCA
(R. LEE ERMEY)
Hey! We're not dead yet! And I don't wanna hear any more of this defeatist bullshit! Do you comprendé me, soldier!?
CHRISTINA
(SMILES, SALUTES)
Yes, ma'am!
REBECCA
That's better...
Christina looks around. She sees a rusty old boiler and runs over to it.
CHRISTINA
Help me!
They help her to push the boiler against the door. It SQUEALS as they move it, hurting their ears. They pile stuff up against the windows as well, blocking all the ways in.
For now.
Christina looks out through a gap in the barricade over a window. William and Rebecca do the same.
They see the vehicle bay nearby, with the old fire truck still parked inside.
CHRISTINA
(REFERRING TO FIRE TRUCK)
She looks like she’ll still run...
Monsters slam up against the window, cracking it. Christina raises her gun, but she can’t risk wasting the bullets.
CHRISTINA
Damn it! I’m all out of ideas...
Something catches William's eye and he goes to get a closer look. He pulls a barrel of cleaning fluid out from under a workbench and looks at the label. He smiles. Rebecca notices.
REBECCA
You think of something..?
William nods.
CHRISTINA
What is it..?
William shows her the label on the barrel.
WILLIAM
Chloryldroxatate... and if we mix it with...
He grabs a can of paint stripper off the workbench and points at the ingredients list on the label.
WILLIAM
...phleuronate...
CHRISTINA
(SMILES)
We get acid.
William nods. Rebecca isn't following.
REBECCA
Chloe-what-a-late..?
But there's no time to explain.
They search around. They find a hand pump, a length of hose with a spray nozzle attached, three empty petrol cans and protective gloves.
William and Christina put the gloves on and carefully pour the cleaning fluid and paint stripper into the cans.
WILLIAM
(TO REBECCA)
Don't breathe in the fumes.
Rebecca steps back, covering her mouth with her hands.
William grabs a screwdriver and uses it to mix the chemicals together.
Christina attaches the hose to the pump and drops it into one of the cans. She pumps up the pressure and sprays a wall to test it. The mixture hisses and bubbles, melting through the paint and eating into the brick underneath.
WILLIAM
We don't have much time...
(REFERRING TO THE CANS AND THE HOSE)
It'll eat right through this stuff...
A monster starts to break in through a window. Christina sprays it. It SCREAMS, its flesh burning. It backs off.
Rebecca grins at William.
REBECCA
You really are the science guy...
William laughs.
They move the boiler.
Christina pumps up the pressure and hefts the can of acid, getting ready to go. She turns and looks at William and Rebecca.
CHRISTINA
Ready?
No.
Too bad.
Christina kicks the door open.
EXT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP - NIGHT
They head for the vehicle bay. William and Rebecca are each carrying a can of acid. Christina sprays monsters as they run for it. The monsters SCREAM and run away.
INT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP – VEHICLE BAY - NIGHT
They make it to the vehicle bay.
William takes over the acid pump, looking around for monsters. The acid is already eating through the hose.
Christina gets behind the wheel of the fire truck and hotwires it. It doesn't work.
CHRISTINA
Shit!
She gets out and opens the engine compartment.
More monsters head for them.
William sprays them. The first can runs dry. William takes out the pump and kicks the can away. Rebecca puts a fresh can in front of him and he drops the pump in and keeps spraying the monsters. The acid is starting to eat through the can as well now.
REBECCA
(TO CHRISTINA)
HURRY!!!
Christina doesn't bother to reply. She keeps working on the engine.
The hose and the can are starting to disintegrate.
WILLIAM
Shit! Shit! Shit!
Christina keeps trying to get the engine going. Rebecca runs over to her and twists something in the engine. The fire truck comes to life. Christina’s impressed.
William sprays another monster. The hose and the can finally melt away, and he jumps back to avoid the spilled acid.
CHRISTINA
Let’s go!
They all scramble into the fire truck. Christina gets back behind the wheel. She puts the truck in gear and adjusts the rear view mirror.
CHRISTINA
(WRYLY)
I love it when a plan comes together.
Christina puts her foot down and the fire truck roars away.
EXT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP – NIGHT
The fire truck speeds across the lot, running down monsters.
Lacey strides into the fire truck’s path.
INT. FIRE TRUCK(MOVING) – NIGHT
Christina, William and Rebecca see Lacey.
REBECCA
Oh, God...
Christina runs Lacey down with a sickening THUD. Rebecca looks back...
EXT. JUNKYARD – NIGHT
...and sees Lacey getting up, still alive.
INT./EXT. FIRE TRUCK(MOVING) – NIGHT
REBECCA
NO!!!
William and Christina look back.
CHRISTINA
God damn it!!!
Lacey leaps onto the back of the truck, landing on the ladder. She scrambles towards the cab and breaks the rear window. She tries to grab Rebecca.
Rebecca ducks down and slaps Lacey’s hands away.
Christina grabs her gun and aims at Lacey through the shattered rear window. She opens fire with all the ammo she has left.
The bullets all hit Lacey, throwing her back and leaving her sprawled on the ladder. But they don't stop her. Blood pours from her wounds, but she still gets back up.
Christina's gun clicks empty.
CHRISTINA
Shit!!
William scrambles out of the cab and up onto the back of the truck.
REBECCA
What are you doing!?!
WILLIAM
I don't know!!!
William climbs onto the ladder, he stands there precariously, facing off with Lacey. She just looks at him.
William holds his ground. Lacey rushes at him. He tries to fight her, but she's too fast and too strong. She beats the crap out of him, knocking him off the truck.
He cries out, just about managing to grab the ladder and stop himself falling to the ground.
Rebecca and Christina see this and react.
REBECCA
William!!!
Lacey moves towards the cab. William grabs her leg and trips her up. She falls flat on her face. He climbs up onto the back of the truck and grabs hold of Lacey, trying to choke her. She shrugs him off and grabs him by the throat with her right hand, squeezing.
William tries to get free but he can't. Just as he's turning blue, Lacey gets her arm chopped off with a fire axe.
William collapses, Lacey's severed arm still gripping him, he pulls it free and throws it away.
Lacey turns and sees Rebecca holding the axe. Lacey hisses at her.
Rebecca smacks Lacey in the head with the axe. The impact sends her flying back off the truck, the axe still stuck in her head. She hits the ground hard, messed up, but still alive.
Christina sees Lacey fall in the wing mirror.
EXT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP - NIGHT
Lacey stands up. Her skin is red raw from the impact. She grabs the handle of the axe with her good hand and pulls it out of her head messily. She throws it away.
The fire truck crashes through the fence surrounding the autoshop and speeds away along a street.
Lacey runs after it.
EXT. SKY - ROGUES - NIGHT
The Rogues come in low, spread out wide in a bombing formation.
INT. ROGUE ONE - COCKPIT(MOVING) – NIGHT
Rogue One arms her weapons.

(INTO HEADSET)
Lock and load.
INT. THE ROGUES/COCKPITS(MOVING) - NIGHT
The Rogues arm their weapons.

EXT. SKY - ROGUES - NIGHT
The Rogues drop their bombs.
EXT. TOWN - NIGHT
The bombs hit all over the town, exploding and unleashing a wall of fire. The fire spreads out, consuming everything in its path.
EXT. AVERAGE JOE’S AUTOSHOP - NIGHT
The fire destroys the autoshop.
Monsters are blown apart, SCREAMING.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
Lacey feels the heat, she looks back and sees the fire rushing at her, destroying everything it touches. She pushes herself harder, trying to outrun it.
INT. FIRE TRUCK(MOVING) - NIGHT
Christina, William and Rebecca see the fire too, they react.
The fire truck is already going as fast as it can. All they can do is hold on tight.
EXT. STREET - NIGHT
The fire catches up to Lacey and she is blown apart with a SCREAM.
The fire keeps spreading, catching up to the fire truck.
INT. FIRE TRUCK(MOVING) - NIGHT
Christina is still going flat out. She looks around for a way out...
Then she sees the river off to the left.
CHRISTINA
Hang on!
She heads for the river, even though that takes them closer to the fire.
William and Rebecca can see what Christina has in mind.
The fire truck is almost at the river, only just ahead of the fire. Christina drives onto the riverbank.
And keeps on going, straight into the river...
EXT. RIVER - NIGHT
Christina jumps clear of the fire truck before it splashes down into the river and starts to sink.
She pushes William and Rebecca under the water, then dives under herself. The fire spreads across the surface of the water.
The fire dies down, finally burning itself out. The surface is still now, calm.
Then they all burst up out of the water, gasping for air.
EXT. STREET – NIGHT
Emergency vehicles are waiting at the edge of the smoking remains of the town. All that’s left now is a couple of streets. The McDonalds drive-thru has survived too, its golden arches shining in the moonlight.
Christina, William and Rebecca are being checked out by Paramedics. They’re all okay.
The evacuees are all clustered together, gawping at the destruction.
Ron and Carl push their way through the crowd. They see William and come running over to him. He sees them coming and meets them halfway. They’re all smiles. Group hug.
Jones steps up next to Christina and salutes her. She smiles and returns the salute, then Jones hugs her.
CHRISTINA
(LAUGHING)
Maintain discipline, soldier!
Rebecca walks over to William.
Ron sees Rebecca coming over and points her out to William. He turns to look.
The lights of the emergency vehicles flatter Rebecca. She looks like an angel. She seems to move in slow motion.
William is frozen on the spot as Rebecca moves towards him.
Rebecca gets up close and personal with William. Ron and Carl fade away like the gooseberries they are.
Rebecca flashes that million dollar smile of hers.
REBECCA
You got any plans for Saturday night?
Now that they’re not in mortal danger, William is back to his old stuttering, nervous self.
WILLIAM
I... er... um...
But Rebecca really thinks he’s cute now. She grins.
REBECCA
You’re really bad at this, aren’t you?
WILLIAM
...at what..?
Then she kisses him, the greatest kiss since The Princess Bride.
Christina sees Rebecca and William together and smiles.
Rebecca comes up for air. William is stunned. He looks at Ron and Carl, who are still hanging around nearby.
WILLIAM
...that really happened, didn’t it..?
Ron and Carl nod, smiling and making immature gestures. William breaks into a huge grin. Rebecca laughs. Christina just shakes her head, rolling her eyes.
WILLIAM
So, this is the happy ending..?
REBECCA
(GRINS)
It sure is.
Billy’s Rottweiller, Satan, comes bounding out of nowhere, headed right for William. Rebecca cries out in shock when she sees the huge dog. Christina goes for her gun, but Jones grabs her arm to stop her.
Satan jumps on William and knocks him to the ground, licking his face, so happy to see him. William laughs. Rebecca kneels down and pets Satan.
They’re all laughing now, and that’s the happy ending...
