Caring for one another

This was my part of our Class Presidency Leadership Training – Jennifer Ford

Caring for one another

The first and most important responsibility of the Class presidency is to care for each class member! You have a special responsibility to friendship all class members. And beyond that all young women….

(Young Women," section 4 of the Church Handbook of Instructions, Book 2: Priesthood and Auxiliary Leaders [1998], 218).

Class presidency members plan ways to be a friend to:

1. All young women in the class.

2. New members.

3. Less-active members.

4. Young women with special needs.

As I was preparing to talk about Caring for one Another, I kept thinking of these cute furry critters called CARE BEARS. Let me tell you a little about them….

[pic]

The Care Bears are a group of adorable, furry friends each with a special caring mission. They help teach people how to care. Every Care

Bear wears a bright-colored tummy picture that tells the world who they are and what is their special area of caring.

In their cloud-land home, called Care-a-lot, the Care Bears help each other learn to care. Sometimes they magically bring a child with a

special caring concern to Care-a-lot so that they can better teach them some of the finer points of being a caring person. Sometimes, too,

the Care Bears have to speed down to Earth to help with some crisis in caring. Wherever the Care Bears go, and whatever the Care Bears do,

in their soft, fuzzy, and funny way, they share their special gift of caring with everyone they meet.

Each of you have your own special way of showing someone that you care, that is part of your INDIVIDUAL WORTH. And, it may be different from the person you are sitting next to, which is good, because variety is what makes a group of young women working together so powerful and successful in following the Savior’s example, To love one another!

I want you to each read out loud to the group the name of the care bear near you and then read the description that is on the back. As you are listening think about the different qualities you have and the qualities the other YW in our group have.

(See Care Bear Attachment)

THANK EVERYONE FOR PARTICPATING

Now, none of you wear a picture on your tummy telling everyone what is your special way of caring.

But your actions DO tell!

??????What can each of you do to care for the young women in our ward and in your classes? BE SPECIFIC

???????Why is important to be friendly to all our Young Women? BE SPECIFIC

Have a YW Write on Board

Can have fun

Be able to feel the spirit

Learn

Make a difference in someone’s life

Follow Christ’s example

We are to be an example: Class officers & leaders set the tone (1 girl can make all the difference for good or bad)

??????What actions are inappropriate & will drive someone away or make them feel unloved?

Just say outloud, don’t write

Examples:

Whispering

Laughing

Grouping off, not mixing

Gossiping

Teasing

Dirty & Mean Looks

Purposely not inviting

Bragging

Rudeness

WE NEED TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO DO THESE THINGS. WE NEED TO CARE FOR AND NURTURE ONE ANOTHER.

I want our Young Women’s to be a soft place to land, a place where everyone including non-member friends feel welcome. I want everyone to be able to feel and know how very special you each are. I want the Spirit to be able to be here. I want it to be like Care-a-lot.

It's here, it's there, it's everywhere there are hearts that love and those who care! Wherever good feelings are nurtured and shared!

By the raise of hands, HOW MANY OF YOU WANT OUR YOUNG WOMENS TO BE LIKE THIS TOO?

Now, if you are willing to do your best to help this happen, STAND UP. Keep Standing!

As you look around the room, notice that you are each unique and have different interests and likes. Sometimes, you may feel that you do not have many things in common with another girl, but you do. You are sisters! You are each a daughter of Heavenly parents that love you so very much. Because of this DIVINE NATURE, inherently there is a special bond that you have with each other, you just have to nurture it.

YOU MAY NOW SIT DOWN! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMMITTING TO MAKE OUR YOUNG WOMEN’S GROUP A SOFT PLACE, A CARING AND LOVING PLACE FOR ALL.

If you need help, as your leaders we are here to help you. You can also talk to your parents and ask them for help, and you can always ask your Father in Heaven for help. He knows you best and will answer you!

Now in closing Elder Henry B. Eyring of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles tell us:

“Your call has eternal consequences for others and for you. In the world to come, thousands may call your name blessed, even more than the people you serve here. They will be the ancestors and the descendants of those who chose eternal life because of something you said or did, or even what you were.”

SHARE TESTIMONY!

Amen

(At the end gave them a handout with some Care Bear Chapstick that I found at the Dollar Store. You could use anything Care Bear, Stickers, party store favors, etc.)

Be a CARE BEAR!

"I believe our Heavenly Father's everlasting purpose for His children is generally achieved by the small and simple things we do for one another."
