Following the success of Nirvana:Winterlong, Vision On's first book in 1999, the work has been re-mixed into a new, luxury edition featuring previously unseen images and accompanied by a new introduction by music journalist and Nirvana expert Everett True.

Art directed by new Vision On Creative Director Kirk Teasdale (former Art Director of Time Out) and designed by Martin Bell (former Art director of Dazed & Confused magazine), Nirvana incorporates colour images omitted from the first edition. Allowing fans to see new images as well as presenting the original shots in a more expansive format, this book is as much a tribute to the quality of the images as that of the band.
Featuring over 100 Nirvana pictures taken by two of the UK’s best music photographers – Steve Gullick and Stephen Sweet – Nirvana provides a unique and detailed insight into the band that defined the music of the 1990s.
Nirvana covers everything from the early Bleach performances in 1989, through the whirlwind months of 1991 when Nevermind took the world by storm, and on to their last US tour in late 1993.
Nirvana – the British perspective – Steve Gullick and Stephen Sweet offer their own unique and often personal insight into the band that now, more than ever, represents the spirit of the early 90's.
“We were all press photographers working for NME and Melody Maker at the time” explains Steve Gullick. “For a variety of reasons such as their early popularity here, the British punk-rock heritage and the prolific publicity work of Anton Brookes, the British media got better access to Nirvana than anyone else did.
“They just seemed to like us – and as a result they were very relaxed around us. This book is very much a reflection of that. It is very much the British take on Nirvana."

A tribute to the life of Nirvana not to the death of Kurt Cobain, Gullick says of the collection “I’m just a Nirvana fan. This book says that Nirvana were the best band of the 1990’s. This is our photographic representation of them. It’s a tribute to the best band of the 1990s.”
Nirvana – The Text
The introduction to the book by Everett True will be an exclusive look into Nirvana at the time when these photographs were taken, likewise revealing why their influence continues to be felt so strongly today.
Everett was involved with almost every Nirvana photo-session included in this book, and was known to be a personal friend to both Kurt and Courtney. He even sang and played on stage with Nirvana under his alter ego The Legend!
Steve Gullick
Steve is recognised by his cutting edge music photography, well known for his images of live performances as well as his studio shoots. He is the official photographer to The Prodigy and his work is regularly published in N.M.E., Melody Maker and Sound magazine.
In June 2001 Vision On will be publishing a new collection of Steve Gullick’s collected work entitled Showtime, the follow-up to his widely acclaimed book Pop Book Number One.
Stephen Sweet
Stephen works for Uncut and Melody Maker, currently compiling a book of music shots. He also works in theatre and travel photography.
Everett True
Everett’s extensive CV covers involvement with nearly every top UK music publication, including NME, Uncut, Guitar magazine, Melody Maker (Assistant editor) and Vox magazine (editor). But more importantly for this book, Everett was attributed by Entertainment Weekly (amongst others), as the man who invented ‘grunge’.
Everett True has written books on numerous bands, including Nirvana, Lemonheads and Supergrass. He is currently writing the definitive book on Grunge for Virgin UK, due to be released in autumn 2001.
