a beach obstacle course, stretching, tandem surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, SUP, outrigger canoeing, and an awards ceremony where every child participant gets a goodie bag, a medal, and more! Some locations are lucky to often have a live Coast Guard helicopter resuce demonstration!

The Foorce Summer Social Group:

For the fourth year in a row we will meet twice weekly for get-togethers and field trips during the summer. The last two years it was a fun time for parents and kids! Totally informal, a come when you can and want to kind of thing. We’ve gone on picnics, to the zoo, to sports games, the beach, around all 5 boroughs. The group includes parents with any age child, birth through middle school, special needs or not. Adapted Sports Program – NYC Parks

Saturdays, ages 5 to 17 all disabilities

Each week coaches will lead drills and friendly competitions to encourage skill development. Children in the program will learn the basics of adaptive basketball, (including wheelchair mobility, dribbling, shooting and passing) and track and field (including wheelchair racing, ambulatory racing, and the technique of throwing a javelin, discuss and shot put). For kids 11-17 with special needs and their parents. Classes will meet in the beautiful Mark Morris Building, will be accompanied by live music, and will be a great place for kids and parents to stretch, move and meet one another.  Register online at school. 

The Dance FUN-damentals class is a parent participation class that is committed to bringing the joy and benefits of dance to children and teens with disabilities.  Taught in a safe, non-competitive environment, the class is designed to increase students’ body and spatial awareness, balance, control and coordination; develop strong and healthy bodies; build self-esteem, social skills, and problem-solving skills; and provide an outlet for self awareness through creative expression.  For more details email info@ or call 718-624-8400.

The Nesher Program offers after school and Saturday programs for children and teens with developmental disabilities. Children participate in art, science, music, cooking, movement, swimming, sports, dance and drama. Classes are ongoing and prorated. An interview with the director is required.
