Weeks 1 through 4

A. Warm-ups & Stretching- Get in a Squads for exercises & stretching.

1. Jumping Jacks- 10 on a 4 count (same # for all grade levels)

2. 2. Cross leg stretches- 2 for each leg; hold on a 10 count (same # for all grade levels)

3. Push-ups – 25 (6th & 5th grades), 20 ( 4th & 3rd grades), 15 (2nd & 1st grades), 10 for kinder

4. Sit- ups with a partner- 25 (6th & 5th grades), 20 (4th & 3rd grades), 15 (2nd & 1st grades), 10 for kinder.

5. Jog 10 lines. Asthmatics jog/walk the laps.

SKILL – MOVEMENT & DANCE

A. Lesson/ Activity: This unit will focus on movement exploration and simple dances. The 2nd thru 6th grades will possibly work on Parachute Dance activities, grapevine, Chicken dance, Hokey Pokey, Pattycake Polka steps, “Conga”,” Mexican Hat Dance”, Tinikling” Cotton Eyed Joe”, the “Bunny Hop”, the “Limbo”, “various line dances”(Electric slide, YMCA, Macarena), and other” rhythmic activities”( with Lumni sticks). The focus of the lesson will be to incorporate variations of alignment and movements into the dances. The Kinder and 1st grade will focus primarily on movement exploration involving gross motor skills. The activities include “Parachute Dance Activities”, Mexican Hat Dance, “If You’re Happy & You Know it, “, “Johnny Works with the One Hammer,” “Hokey Pokey”, Chicken Fat”, “ Dance Little Bird”or “Chicken Dance”, Magic Ball, Pattycake Polka, Dancin Duck and other “Rhythmic activities (with Lumni Sticks). The dances and movement exploration will be worked on through the semester.

B. MUSIC SELECTIONS:

2nd – 6th : “CD Square Dancing Made Easy “Cotton Eyed Joe”.

Kinder – 1st: “If you Happy & You Know It, “ “Johnny Works with One Hammer, “Dance Little Bird”, “Magic Ball”, “Hokey Pokey”, “Bunny Hop”, and “Chicken Fat” “Conga” “Mexican Hat Dance”from CD Children’s All-Time Rhythm Favorites ,Dance Party Fun, and All-Time Favorite Dqnces.
