THE TRAVELER’S BOARD GAME - DANGEROUS PLACES

The Traveler’s Board Game - Dangerous Places

intro: Parker Bros, creators of the North American classic Monopoly are worried! They are losing market share and need a new board game that could replace Monopoly and help them earn back the support they once had. The grade 11 Travel and Tourism class have been studying several dangerous places around the world – Places travellers should avoid due to civil war, insurgency, ethnic cleansing, drugs, disease and violence.

We also have learned that tourists make the ideal targets for crime

Task: In groups of 2 or 3, or individually you are going to design a board game that

incorporates the major themes of the unit (dangerous places, tips to ensure your safety, rights when you are imprisoned abroad, drugs, diseases etc.) You can be creative as you want, but must include the following guidelines

o Your game must be able to be played by at least 4 players, meaning you need to create 4 place markers – make them 3-D, be original! Maybe make them look like tourists.

o You must be able to win the game, whether the winner has to accumulate a certain number of points or is the first to reach a destination. You choose!

o Your game must test the knowledge of the players (you choose how)

o If your game needs dice, you will need to provide it along with all props to go along with your game.

o Once you are complete, play your game. It should be able to be completed within one hour

o I can supply you with poster board for your base

o Your board must be visually attractive and be accurate to class content

Specifics: All games need to have the following

▪ must be at least 25 different spaces

▪ positive factors (jump ahead, gain money, win a free trip, chance card, )

▪ negative factors (miss a turn, go to jail, pay money you have been executed, you have lots a limb to a land mine)

▪ be creative! This is your game!

▪ all factors should be based on content from the unit

▪ the more accurate the content, the better the mark!

Work Periods: You will be given 3 work periods to complete this assignment. Remember, this

is the cumulating assignment for this unit (worth a lot of marks).

GAMES DAY:

• On a day a yet to be determined, we will have games period where we (Mr. Tilt) included will play each of the games we created. (Monday, May 6th)

• You must include a typed instruction sheet and rules sheet along with all materials necessary to play your game.

The more effort you put into it the higher you mark. Have fun and be creative
