DARTS/HSR FARE HARMONIZATION

Beginning June 1st, 2013, in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), registered DARTS passengers will use HSR tickets and passes to pay for DARTS rides. This means that more convenient, economical fare options will be available for DARTS passengers.

Modifications have been made from the changes that were to take place on January 1st, 2013. Please carefully review the fare information contained in this bulletin to determine the fare type that is most beneficial to you.

To take advantage of HSR fares for travel on DARTS:

DARTS passengers must register their preferred fare type with ATS by calling 905-529-1212, Ext. 3;

Outstanding DARTS accounts must be paid in full.

NEW DARTS FARES JUNE 1st, 2013

CHILD (ages 0-4):

Child ............................................FREE

STUDENT (ages 5-19):

Cash (exact change) .................. $2.55 HSR Student Ticket.................... $1.65 HSR Student Monthly Pass ........ $71.00

Secondary school students must carry their Student ID cards to use student fares. Students must be in full time attendance at a school administered by the Hamilton Board of Education or Separate School Board or any secondary school inspected and approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education. If you need a Student ID Card, please call the HSR Customer Service Centre at 905-546-2424, Ext. 1882 for details.

* All children and students under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a Support Person on DARTS.

HSR Student Paper Tickets and Student Monthly Passes can be purchased at one of over 125 Vendors in the Hamilton area. DARTS drivers do not provide change from cash fares.

DARTS Senior Tickets can be purchased in books of 10 for $16.50 at the ATS Office, HSR Customer Service Centre, the Municipal Service Centres, or from the DARTS drivers. DARTS Senior Tickets are NOT accepted for rides on the HSR.

DARTS Senior Monthly Pass is a Photo ID Card with a renewal sticker purchased for each month. DARTS passengers must go to the ATS Office or HSR Customer Service Centre to get their photo taken and purchase their first monthly pass. You must show this pass each time you board the DARTS vehicle. Monthly renewal stickers can be purchased at the ATS Office, HSR Customer Service Centre, one of the Municipal Service Centres, or by mail from the ATS Office.

DARTS Senior Annual Pass is a Photo ID Card good for one year from the month of purchase. DARTS passengers must go to the ATS Office or HSR Customer Service Centre to get their photo taken and purchase their first annual pass. Please bring identification indicating your age, address and DARTS passenger number. You must show this pass each time you board the DARTS vehicle.

 GOLDEN AGE (ages 80+)

HSR Golden Age Pass...............FREE

In order to take advantage of the free Golden Age rate, DARTS passengers may go to the ATS Office or HSR Customer Service Centre to get their photo taken and receive their Golden Age Pass. Please bring identification indicating your age, address and DARTS passenger number. Golden Age Passes are issued to residents of Greater Hamilton only.

You must show this pass each time you board the DARTS vehicle. If you do not have a Golden Age Pass, you will be required to pay Senior cash fare or ticket.

ADULT (under 65):

HSR Adult Tickets and Monthly Passes can be purchased at one of over 125 Vendors in the Hamilton area. DARTS drivers do not provide change from cash fares.

DARTS Accounts: Paper ticket prices apply to trips billed on account with DARTS.

No Ticket Bills: Cash fare of $2.55 applies to DARTS trips billed as a result of no ticket charges.

Refunding DARTS Tickets:

DARTS tickets will be refunded at $2.35 per ticket until August 31, 2013, at the HSR Customer Service Centre, 36 Hunter St. E. (Hamilton GO Centre), open weekdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

You may continue to use your existing DARTS tickets to pay for your rides; however, using old DARTS tickets costs more than the new DARTS fares.

Travel On HSR:

DARTS Senior Tickets are only valid as payment for DARTS rides, and are NOT accepted for rides on the HSR. DARTS Senior Monthly Passes, DARTS Senior Annual Passes and all other HSR tickets and passes are valid on both DARTS and HSR buses.

HSR riders who use a wheelchair, walker or scooter, and those who are CNIB cardholders, are permitted under the new Temporary Promotional Transit Fare Special Program to ride the HSR at no charge. The program does not apply to DARTS rides.

Travel with a Support Person

One (1) support person may accompany you on DARTS and/or the HSR for free. Medical requirement for a support person must be registered in advance with ATS. Call 905-529-1212 and Press 3 for information.
