Database Connectivity

It will be your goal to determine the best methods of getting data from the database to your system and from your system back to your database.

There are two schools of thought

• Use the objects in the IDE to generate the SQL syntax for you.

• Hard-Code connections and the SQL syntax

There are pros and cons to each method.

Learn what the following are

• Dataset

• DataTable

• DataAdapter

• DataReader

• SQLClient Class

Learn, describe, and give examples of the following.

• Tables

• Fields of a table

• Records in a table

• Relationships between tables.

o One – to – One

o One – to Many

o Many – to – Many

It is also your goal to create the following and explain the structure in front of the class.

Field Research

1. I will provide you with informal system requirements.

2. You are to interview Shane Elliott and ask him informally about what you will need for the project requirements for the first phase and to produce a Feasibility study to show me how viable this project is.

3. Go to the following MS sites for loads of information:

Note: obviously there are more sources available online and otherwise. It is the team leader’s responsibility at this phase to ensure that enough research is made presented.
