Shawna Reeves was confirmed as the newest Tri-Chair. [Murase/Nielsen/all]

IV. Approve 2012-2013 Family Violence Council Report

VII. Reports

A. Key Issues in Family Violence

1. Domestic Violence Update – Beverly Upton

October was DV Awareness month. However, there was a DV homicide/suicide in October. There is work going on with NFL and 49ers – Asian Women’s Shelter invited to give input to league. The DVC is collaborating with Santa Clara County DVC to reach out to 49ers, wanting to do training.

2. Elder Abuse Update – Shawna Reeves

Roll call video. Trained 50+ new recruits. Roll call video will help with continuing to train. UCSF DV Conference, over 40 attendees for elder abuse! LGBT focused elder abuse content developed due to DOSW funding. Only 1% of elder abuse reports made by doctors nationally. Federal home for elder abuse: will be asking states to provide APS data on national level.

3. Child Abuse Update – Kathy Baxter

Prop C passed with 73% of the vote and does not sunset for 25 years. Katie Albright will be new Child Abuse Tri-Chair.

VIII. Domestic Violence Death Review Panel

Carol Sacco (DOSW) will be staffing Death Review committee. Once the recent murder/suicide is closed (since there will be no trial), the committee can start to meet.

Suggestion for discussing sexual assault prevention: girls 85% of assaults are before age of 25, boys 50% before age of 10.
