SHERRELWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REOPENING PLAN FOR FALL 2020Calendar & ScheduleFirst day for Grades/Levels 1 – 5 is August 20. Preschool and Kindergarten begin on August 24. Watch for school start and ending times to come out soon. Every student will attend every day with health & safety precautions, unless otherwise notified.We are prepared to move to remote learning immediately, when necessary.You will be receiving more information about how the first day of school will be structured. No child or adult may enter the grounds without a mask and social distancing. Students will be assigned an area to line up or group together with their teacher.HealthAll staff will take their temperature when they arrive at school. All parents should take their child’s temperature and check for Covid symptoms while at home, and students should stay home if they have any of these symptoms.All students will also have their temperature taken at the beginning of the day at school.Students demonstrating a fever (above 100.4°F) and/or showing other symptoms of illness will be placed in our sick room and parents will be called to pick up their child as soon as possible. Frequent handwashing and use of hand sanitizer will occur throughout the day.Students will be instructed in proper hygiene throughout the day and year.MasksAll students and staff will be required to wear masks in the school. When allowed, masks will be optional IF students are keep a 6 foot distance outside. If students choose not to maintain appropriate social distancing, they will be required to wear their masks outside. Students will be given mask breaks outdoors, when appropriate. Scbool SuppliesStudents will have their own set of school supplies (the list will be on our webpage and on the school door). Students’ school supplies will be stored in individually labeled containers/cases, which can be stored in students’ desks and backpacks.Any shared materials and equipment will be sanitized and wiped down prior to use by another student.Headphones will be checked out from the school and stored in the backpacks.Chrome BookStudents will be assigned a district-owned Chromebook, charging cord, headphone and case. Chromebooks/cases will go home and brought back to school each day, fully charged at home. Parents will need to sign our Chromebook User Agreement prior to a Chromebook being assigned to a student. Call the office if you need help with internet (303.428.5353).Technology charge is $40.00 and due at start of school. Call office for payments.An optional Chromebook protection plan is availabe for $50.(see agreement)ArrivalTeachers will meet their students at assigned outside spaces and students will not play on equipment. Prior to entering the school, teachers will conduct a ‘mask-check’ .All students must wear a clean, fresh mask each day. *Classroom cohorts will enter the building separately, led by their classroom teachers, and follow her/him down the hallways directly to the classroom. ClassroomsStudents will remain in their classroom for the majority of the day with their classroom teacher. Other support teachers will come to the classroom when practical and sometimes remoting in. Desks will be arranged so that students are separated from others as much as possible.(1-2 feet)When appropriate, *classroom cohorts and small groups of students can learn outdoors maintaining social distancing.Social distancing will be maintained as much as possible throughout the building and on the school grounds. HallwaysStudents and staff will walk on the right side of the hallway. Students and staff will be expected to walk single file in the hallway and walk near the wall. As needed, we will create ‘one way routes’.Bathroom ProceduresA morning and afternoon bathroom break will be scheduled for each *classroom cohort. During the scheduled break, students are encouraged to use the restroom, wash hands, refill water bottles, and use hand sanitizer.No more than 3 students will be allowed in any bathroom at any one time. Teachers will establish systems for bathroom usage.MealsFree snack, breakfast and lunch will be provided if you complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Form. Breakfast, snack and lunch can be eaten in the classroom and lunch may be eaten outside, when appropriate and with supervision.Students may bring lunch from home, but no lunches may be dropped off after school begins. They must arrive in your child’s backpack each morning. There will be no sharing of food. Recess BreaksA 10-15 minute mid-day recess with supervision will be provided before or after lunch.Designated locations on the playground and field will be assigned to each classroom cohort group. One set of equipment will be assigned to one class for the week. There will be a rotation schedule.Other recess breaks and mask breaks for students will be scheduled daily and supervised by classroom and office staff.Specialists ServicesTo reduce the frequency of cross interactions, intervention staff and specialists will be assigned to work with specific cohorts of students. As much as possible, specialists will conduct intervention services within the general education classroom, outdoors or remotely. Specials-ElectivesStudents will attend a PE, Music or Art specials class daily. When possible, specials classes will be conducted outside. If weather does not permit, the specials classes will be held in the classroom of the cohort. If an instructional space will be shared from one cohort to another cohort, the teachers and students will wipe down high-touch surfaces. In order to reduce the amount of teachers with each cohort, specials classes will be in 3 to 6 week cycles. LibraryOur librarian will schedule library visits in the classroom or outdoors.A limited amount of books will be provided for *classroom cohorts to check out. Each class and student will receive a schedule for when they will receive and return books allowing enough time for the books to sit between check outs. 133350182880Afternoon DismissalStudents will be dismissed from their classrooms and their teachers will lead them outdoors.Students who walk home or are picked up by family must leave the school grounds immediately.No one, not students or families, are to play on the playground or fields before or after school.TransportationBus, Car, WalkingIf a bus is provided to your student, you will be notified of the time for pick up and drop off.School buses will be disinfected daily.Bus students will follow the directions from the driver on where to sit and masks will be worn.Upon arrival at school, all students walk to the back of school to their designated waiting areas; there will be no playing on the equiipment or field..Emergency DrillsFire and tornado drills will be completed one *classroom cohort at a time to reduce potential exposure. We will work with Adams County Sherriff to schedule lockdown drills and all safety precautions will be followed.Visitors & EntryRestrictions will be placed on non-essential visitors to the school, including volunteers and disallowing classroom visitations.As much as possible and to reduce the frequency of cross interactions, we will try to assist parents via the phone, intercom and restrict entry to visitors on an emergency basis only.No items may be dropped off to children once school has begun. No students may be picked up 45 minutes prior to the end of the day.If students are late to school, they will wait in their parent’s car and call the school for an appointed time to enter the school. No one should just come to the door; entry will not be allowed without a call. *Cohorts are groups of students and staff within a school building who interact the most often only with each other. The goal is to limit the number of people anyone is in contact with. It is mostly the classroom of students and that classroom teacher. ................
