Child Care Aide

DEFINITION Under the guidance of the Director and the assigned Administrator, provide direct care and supervision of infants and toddlers; and other related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ? Supervise infants and toddlers individually and in small groups. E ? Provide care, guidance and developmental experiences, meeting the appropriate educational and emotional needs of the children. E ? Give each infant individual specialized attention each day, responding to each infant's particular needs and characteristics. E ? Provide and assist in personal hygiene practices, including toileting issues as necessary. E ? Keep records of each child as necessary to assure quality care. E ? Participate in parent conferences and discuss with parents the items noted in the child's record. E ? Answer parental questions regarding the child's progress, discuss the child's special abilities lifestyle and incorporate notes on conferences with the parents into the child's record. ? Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education AA Degree, 48 semester units of higher education, or passage of CODESP examination

Experience Experience working with youth desired

Licenses and Other Requirements DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance Negative TB test within the last four years Valid California Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of ? Infant and Toddler developmental stages. ? Basic instructional methods and techniques. ? Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. ? Oral and written communication skills. ? Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct. ? Computer skills and use of MS Word, MS Excel, etc. ? Record-keeping techniques. ? Oral and written communication skills. ? Classroom clerical organization and basic duties. ? Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy

Ability to 1. Maintain effective and cooperative relationships with teachers, students, administrators, parents, other employees, and the general public.

2. Type 40 words per minute. 3. Print and write legibly. 4. Understand and follow oral and written directions. 5. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. 6. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment ? Indoor classroom environment with some outdoor environment based on need. ? May require travel to various sites based on district and site program needs.

Physical Demands ? Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment. ? Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner. ? Clarity of vision at varying distances. ? Sitting and standing for extended periods of time. ? Occasional bending. ? Pushing, moving, lifting objects weighing up to 30 pounds. ? Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files, supplies, test materials.
