Dr. Joshua King has been notified that his article "Coleridge's Aids to Reflection, Print Culture, and Mediated Spiritual Community" has been accepted for publication in European Romantic Review. This is one of the leading journals in Romantic studies. The article will appear in fall 2011.

Dr. Joshua King has been invited to write an article that will appear in a special issue of Nineteenth Century Prose. This issue will be devoted to "Religion and Prose."

Dr. Kevin Gardner has received news that his essay, “Peter Levi: Poet of Winter,” has been accepted for publication in Renascence.  It is set to appear in the Spring 2011 issue.

Dr. William V. Davis’s poems were featured in the most recent issue of The Chariton Review (33:1, Spring 2010). It contains a selection of nine of his poems—“Those Sundays Mornings,” “A Night at the Movies,” “The Days of Our Lives,” “An October Letter,” “The Reading,” “Rain and Snow,” “The Bird in the Yard,” “Poem on My Birthday,” and “A Woman with a Pink Floral Fan.”

Dr. William V. Davis gave a commissioned lecture, entitled “Crisscrossing the Continent from Black Mountain to Vancouver,” at the International Colloquium, “Cultural Circulation: Canadian Writers and Authors from the American South—a Dialogue,” convened in late September in Vienna, Austria and in honor of an old friend, Professor Waldemar Zacharasiewicz, on the occasion of his retirement as Professor of American Literature at the University of Vienna.

Dr. William V. Davis attended the Texas Book Festival held in Austin, October 16-17, where he signed copies of my book Landscape and Journey.

Dr. William V. Davis gave a reading of his poetry at Northwood University, October 19, 2010.

Adrienne Akins had an essay entitled “’I love America more than any other country': National and Racial Identity in Baldwin's ‘This Morning, This Evening, So Soon’” accepted for publication in Journal of the Short Story in English.

Jeffrey Bilbro's essay, “’That Petrified Laugh’: Mark Twain’s Hoaxes in the West and Camelot,” has been accepted for publication by JNT: Journal of Narrative Theory.

Jeffrey Bilbro's article “Preserving ‘God’s Wildness’ for Redemptive Baptism” has been accepted for publication by Christianity and Literature.

Danielle Williams presented a paper entitled “Conscientización and Identity: Critical Pedagogy Meets the Writings of Ana Castillo” at the 2010 Watson Conference in Louisville, Kentucky on October 15.

CONFERENCES—CALLS FOR PAPERS

Information has been received from the University of British Columbia-Vancouver concerning their Third Ubiquitous Learning Conference December 10-11, 2010. The conference is an interdisciplinary forum that investigates the uses of technologies in learning. There will be presentations by Caroline Haythornthwaite, Tabitha McKenzie, Gary Poole, and Catherine Wangeci K-Thuo. The conference also offers the opportunity to submit papers for publication in Ubiquitous Learning: An International Journal. A title and short abstract may be submitted by November 2, 2010. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Information has been received from California State University-Long Beach concerning a position as Assistant Professor in Ethnic U.S. Literatures. Interested candidates must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment in English, American Studies, Ethnic Studies or a closely related field. They must also demonstrate excellence in teaching at the university/college level and experience in teaching courses in ethnic U.S. literature. The candidate must provide evidence of successful research and publication and a commitment to educating a diverse student population. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2010. These programs offer students interested in policy, journalism, and film experience and formal training. Students learn valuable skills working on real projects. Echoes of the Aeolian Harp

Three members of the faculty of the Department of English are in the cast of The Towers of the Brazos, the musical drama depicting the history of Baylor, which will run February 2, 4, 5, 6, at Waco Hall. Dean Robert Collmer, Associate Professor Ann Miller, and Dr, Pat Wortman are member s of the production. Orlin Corey, Baylor alumnus, is playwright/director.
