6th gradeDecemberSpanish newsletter #2Objectives: I can say the date; the date of my birthday and I can describe somebody’s hair and eyes.?Próspero A?o Nuevo!I hope that everybody is having a wonderful winter break. Here are the units that we studied in the past two months in Spanish: we learned how to say the date and how to ask and say the date of our birthdays, using the vocabulary for the months and the days of the week. We had many opportunities to use the introductory expressions, to ask others about their name, its spelling, their origin, age and date of birth through various communicative activities. You could find and review the vocabulary for the months and the days of the week here.We also began the unit about the eyes and hair descriptions and we described different Hispanic celebrities with a stations’ activity. You could find and study the vocabulary for descriptions here. In the last week before the winter break the students watched the 2017 movie Ferdinand, an animation movie based on the book with the same title by Munro Leaf. We watched the movie in Spanish with English subtitles and discussed the ideas in it. At the end of the last school year, during our special event Hispanic Theater Night Ko and Jason’s class presented the play Ferdinando, an adaptation of the same story. In November we reviewed the vocabulary and traditions related to El Día de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead). Here is the link to the vocabulary for the Day of the Dead.In January we will continue studying how to describe people and will learn to describe our families and family members. After that we will review and learn more about pastimes and hobbies and how to express preferences, using gustar (to like) and encantar (to love). Stay warm and if you want try to make chocolate caliente (hot chocolate) at home. If you would like to prepare this yummy Mexican treat that is great for cold winter days, try the brands Ibarra or Abuelita, which you can find at La Tienda de la Libertad on Liberty Street. You heat up a large saucepan with milk and let the chocolate melt into it. Mexican hot chocolate is spicier than the hot chocolate we’re used to. It has a delicious flavor of dark chocolate and cinnamon.A very happy new year to all! May 2019 bring you much joy! Marieta ................
