The personal prayer presented at a Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony should contain pieces of the following elements:

A. INTRODUCTION:

1. Evoke God’s name

Examples:

Dear God;

Eternal God;

God Almighty;

Creator of All Life;

Ribono Shel Olam—Master of the Universe;

Compassionate God;

Ruler of the Universe

[BUZZ WORDS: commitment, lifelong learning, way of life, doing mitzvoth]

B. SIGNIFICANCE OF JUDAISM TO ME:

1. Why are you here? The Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony means to me…

Examples:

I stand here before you as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah…

Today is my day of commitment…

I am ready to accept responsibility…

In love and faithful devotion I accept…

2. Why is Judaism important to you?

Examples:

a. Reflect on important values and virtues

b. How does Judaism bring focus to your life?

c. Describe the path Judaism inspires you to follow

[BUZZ WORDS: responsibility, strive, future, vision, perform, exemplify, positive, affirmation, pledge, promise, declare, covenant, confident, support]

C. REFLECTION ON MITZVAH PROJECT:

Tell about your Mitzvah Project: what it is, what you learned, and how it will affect your future.

D. THANK YOU TO PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU TO THIS DAY:
