Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest Multiple awards open to college styudents and high school seniors. You must write an essay of no fewer than 800 and no more than 1,600 words in length, double-spaced, on a topic related to Ayn Rand’s novel, “Atlas Shrugged”. Go to contests Deadline is September 17,

Questbridge QuestBridge invites applications from high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and come from low-income households. Many successful past applicants have also been among the first generation in their family to attend college. Go to Deadline is late September.

Outlaw Student Scholarships Offers a variety of different scholarships every year. Links to these scholarships are on website at

October Deadline:

Wendy’s Heisman Scholarship Senior student-athlete (1 male and 1 female) who exhibits excellence in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. Applicants must have at least a “B” average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. Go to Deadline is October 2.

Awards for Young Artists Open to 17 and 18 year old artists in the performing, literary or visual arts. For more information, go to nfaa.. Registration deadline is October 1.

Outstanding Students of America Several $1,000 scholarships to any current senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and active in community service and school activities. Applications are available online only at . Deadline is Oct. 10.

Horatio Alger Association The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need ($55,000 or lower gross family income), a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. Students must be a senior, demonstrate financial need, have 2.0 or above. Online applications are at scholarships Deadline is October 25 .

The Overture Awards This is Greater Cincinnati area’s largest ARTS SCHOLARSHIP offered in six areas: creative writing, dance, instrumental music, theater, visual art and vocal music. Check out the website at education/ or see Mrs. Allison for details.

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation . . .great general scholarships, this year available only online. Visit the website at coca- Deadline is October 31.

U.S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program This scholarship is only online. Once a candidate registers, students are randomly chosen to receive $1,000 for college. Apply online at studentbanking between October-February 29.

November Deadline:

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Possible scholarship opportunities for any student in grades 5-12 who has engaged in volunteer activity during the last calendar year and completes an application. Visit Deadline is November 2.

Voice of Democracy Scholarship This is an audio-essay contest for students in grades 9-12. The 2011/2012 Theme is “Is There Pride in Serving in our Military?” Students should record their reading of the draft to a CD. The recording should be between 3 and 5 minutes (plus or minus 5 secs) Students can enter by submitting the required entry form and CD to a local VFW Post. F.I.R.E. “Freedom in Academia” Essay Contest Scholarship Open to seniors who will be enrolled in college. You must watch 2 videos then write an essay why free speech and the 1st Amendment rights are crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm education. Go to contests Deadline is November 5.

December Deadline:

2005 SAE Engineering Scholarships...There are a couple of scholarships available through SAE to any senior intending to earn a degree in engineering or a related science, and have the criteria with regard to g.p.a., and ACT scores. Check out what is available at . Deadline is December 1.

If your family makes under $35,000/year you could be eligible for free tuition at Miami University. See Mrs. Allison for details.

2004-2005 Cincinnatus Scholarship Competition This scholarship competition awards scholarships ranging from $2,000 to full-tuition and room and board. To be considered for awards, incoming freshmen with a minimum 3.2 unweighted high school GPA must have a complete application for admission (including a high school-submitted transcript and official test scores sent directly from testing agencies) by December 1st of their senior year.  Eligible scholars will be determined by academic. Students must have applied to UC by December 1, which includes getting all transcripts and test scores submitted by December 1 as well. The competition will be Feb. 4 or 12.

American Architectural Foundation This is available to students entering a professional degree program in Architecture. Check the website at aaf/aaf/programs.fellowships. Deadline is early December.

The 2010 Elks National Scholarship This scholarship has multiple levels of awards starting at $1,000 a year for four years. The scholarship is based on Scholarship, Leadership and Financial Need. Applications are due by Dec 31 at your local Elk Lodge. Locate your lodge at lodges Visit enf/scholars for details and application.

January Deadline:

Middletown Community Foundation Scholarships There are currently 12 scholarships available to Carlisle Students through the Middletown Community Foundation. Applications are on the web at . Application deadline is January 1 for AK Steel Sons and Daughters and Louie Cox Memorial, and March 1 for the others.

Soroptimist International of Middletown This local chapter offers a few scholarships for young women who make the community and world a better place through volunteer action. Go to and click on scholarships and awards for details.

Robert Cunningham Memorial Scholarship Students must be primary members of General Electric Credit Union (student are allowed to join). Go to and click “Current Promotions”. Deadline is January 6.

Enterprise Essay Contest The essay contest is open to high school seniors in any of the greater Dayton area schools intending to enroll fulltime in a college or university. Essay entries must not exceed 500 words and must be typed double-spaced on plain paper. This year’s essay topic is honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Please see Mrs. Allison for essay entry form. Deadline is January 6.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program There are 1,000 scholarships available. These are full scholarships. Eligible students must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American. You must be an American citizen with a GPA of 3.3-4.0. You must meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility. Apply online at Deadline is January 11.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the student’s first year of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university. There are other scholarships through Walmart as well. In order to access more information about the scholarship go to the website. Students will actually apply on-line at Applicants must use an access code that is provided at the Walmart website to complete the application process. NO PAPER APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE. DEADLINE is January 12.

Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Fund Applicants must be students of accredited high schools who have graduated or will graduate in the school year 2011-2012. Additionally, applying students must have a GPA of at least three points (3.0) on a four-point scale. Application forms and instructions may be obtained from the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. website , or a Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Chapter. Completed applications must be returned to the nearest Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Chapter on or before January 14.

Mensa Education and Research Foundation The scholarships are awarded based on candidates’ essays of no more than 550 words describing the candidate’s academic and career goals. DEADLINE is January 15.

THE OHIO BLACK CAUCUS OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM There are six scholarships available to African-American students with at least a 2.5 GPA that are going to study at an accredited two or four year post-secondary institution. Applications are available at osba- Deadline for application is January 30.

February Deadlines:

ESA Foundation Scholarship Student must have a 3.0 GPA or rank in the top 25% of the class or score at least 22 on the ACT or 1030 on the SAT. Application must include 2 letters of recommendation and a $5.00 processing fee. Deadline is February 1.

Dayton Foundation’s General Motors/Frigidaire Scholarship The scholarship is available to current employees, retirees and to their respective spouses and legally dependent children of any General Motors/Delphi division in Montgomery County, Ohio. The student must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and will receive $1,000 for a public institution and $2,000 for a private institution in Ohio. Deadline is February 1. Applications can be found in Mrs. Allison’s office.

THE WINNERS’ CLUB SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is for $1,500, non-renewable, and is for a student pursing a degree in the field of education. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit, financial need and extracurricular activities. You must have a GPA between 3.5 and 4.0 to apply. Applications are to be submitted online at http:/winnersclubscholarship. between Feb. 1, and April 15.

Hamilton Community Foundation is offering three scholarships through The First Financial Bank. The first is set aside for someone pursuing an Associate Degree from Miami Middletown in Business Technology. The second is reserved for a dependent of any full or part-time employee of First Financial. The third is reserved for those who demonstrate financial need. Preference on the third will be given to African-American students. Applications are available online after Jan. 1 at DEADLINE is February 5.

Burger King Scholars Program Multiple $1,000 scholarships are available. To qualify you must have a 2.5 GPA and work part-time at least 15 hours/week. Log on at scholars Deadline is February 2.

KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program This scholarship is for students with at least a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, enrolling in a public, in-state college or university and pursuing a bachelor’s degree. You must be a US citizen. Apply online at Applications can begin on December 1 but deadline is February 10.

American Cancer Society’s Youth Survivor Scholarship Any senior that has been diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21 should apply for this scholarship. Go to ohiogrants for application.

Ohio Credit Unions Scholarship There are multiple $1,000 scholarships available. In addition, there will be on $2,500 scholarship in Ohio available. You must have at least a 2.5 G.P.A. Visit scholarship/ to download application. Deadline is February 10.

Big 33 Academic Scholarship Award Program This scholarship provides financial assistance to high school seniors who exhibit excellence in a well-rounded educational and extracurricular program. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and be continuing their education at an accredited institution of higher education. Applications may be downloaded at . Applications must be stamped with the school seal and postmarked by February 13.

AXA Achievement Scholarship Applicants are asked to describe in detail an outstanding achievement they have accomplished in a nonacademic activity or project. One student is selected from the state of Ohio. Go to axa- as the application becomes available in November. DEADLINE is February 15.

Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program Monsanto offers a variety of scholarships to recognize, reward and encourage students to continue their education in ag-related fields. Deadline is February 15, for most.

National Co-op Scholarship Program This scholarship is in association with acceptance into 10 universities that offer cooperative education. In our area these schools are UC, Kettering, Univ. of Toledo, Johnson and Wales. You can get a complete listing and also must also apply online at co-op.edu. Minorities and females are strongly encouraged but not required. Early submissions are strongly encouraged. Deadline is February 15.

BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Best Buy Scholarships reward students for all of their work inside and outside of the classroom. There are 1,000--$1,500 scholarships to be awarded. If you are a graduating high school senior, apply at scholarships by Feb. 15

PRINTING INDUSTRIES EDUCATION FUNDS The Printing Industries Education Funds Inc. offers valuable scholarships for students interested in graphic communications, print management, printing technology or graphic arts at an accredited educational institution. March Deadlines:

Sammy 2004 Award High school seniors are encouraged to nominate themselves for the Sammy 2004 award. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12. Applications will only be accepted online at . Deadline is March 4.

UNIVERSAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Two, $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school students that are members of the Universal 1 Credit Union. Deadline for application is March 15. Applications are available on the web at: or in my office.

Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial Scholarship Three $1,000.00 scholarships may be awarded to successful applicants who are currently graduating high school seniors, or returning college students who are previous recipients. It is important to note that consideration will be given, in the following order, to applicants who are 1: the child of a fallen law enforcement officer from Montgomery County, Ohio, (regardless of major) 2: a family member of a fallen law enforcement officer from Montgomery County, Ohio, (regardless of major) 3: a police officer’s family member, 4: a Montgomery County resident intending upon pursuing a law enforcement career, and 5: a Montgomery County, Ohio high school student or reapplying recipient, pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensics, Education, or Social Work. Applications can be picked up from Mrs. Allison. Deadline is March 16.

*Warren County Educational Service Center Scholarship One student from each school district in Warren County will be awarded this scholarship. Applicants must document financial need for assistance. Deadline is March 23.

Ohio Newspaper Foundation Minority Journalism Scholarship Applicants must be African American, Hispanic, Asian American or American Indian. The student must be enrolled as a college freshman at an Ohio college or university for the upcoming school year. In addition, the student must have a 2.5 GPA or above and must write an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing academic, career interest, awards, extracurricular activities and any journalism-related activities. Applications must be postmarked by March 31.

*Better Business Bureau Education Foundation This program is looking to recognize students from the Miami Valley who personify ethics through leadership, community service, overall integrity and academic history. See Mrs. Allison for application. Deadline is March 3.

*The Lebanon Area Charter Chapter of The American Business Women’s Association Several scholarships are being offered to graduating seniors from Warren County. The student’s must have a 3.0 GPA and 3 letters of recommendation. See Mrs. Allison for application. Deadline is March 31.

Northrop GRunman Two qualified students chosen from area high school will receive $2,500/year for 4 years. Candidates must be a resident of Butler, Clermont, Hamilton or Warren County. The student must have a minimum ACT score of 27 and GPA of 3.5 and plan to attend an accredited college or university as a full time student in an approved engineering program. April Deadlines:

Rittgers and Rittgers Scholarship honors four promising Warren County seniors each year for intellectual strength, independent thinking and exceptional achievement. Recipients are chosen based on their ability to achieve success through a demonstrated understanding of the principles of the United States Constitution. Rittgers & Rittgers believes in the values that our Founding Fathers memorialized in the Constitution and we want to reward those students who wish to further their education by hard work and scholarship. Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools Any senior interested in attending one of Ohio’s private career colleges or schools need to apply for this scholarship. (ITT Tech is an example) See Mrs. Allison for details. Application Deadline is April 2.

Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District The Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District is once again offering two $500.00 scholarships to Warren County High School seniors who are planning to major in a natural resource-related field of study. See Mrs. Allison for application…Deadline is April 2.

William D Squires Educational Foundation, Inc Primarily need based with EFC less than 8,000. Ideal candidates must already know their career goal and are highly motivated, but require financial assistance to pursue their dream. Minumum GPA 3.2. Go to Deadline is April 5.

Kittyhawk Society of American Military Engineers These are annual scholarships for students that are pursuing careers in the fields of engineering, science, architecture and engineering management. The program is designed to cover all levels of post-high-school education to include associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degrees. The number and value of scholarships awarded may vary from year to year, but the goal is to award at least one scholarship in each of the categories outlined below. Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation Criteria for these scholarships are determined by the donors and can be specific, which is why it is important that you complete the application in its entirety.  Most scholarships are "need-based", and help to cover the cost of education after all other federal, state, and campus-based aid have been awarded.  To be considered for all  CSF scholarships, you must have a proven financial need which can only be determined by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program They are offering high school seniors from Ohio the opportunity to win $1,000. These scholarships will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation related field (this is very broad, as it covers gaming, graphic design etc) at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Big Sun Scholarship This $500.00 scholarship is for high school seniors that will be attending a post secondary institute and are currently involved in some sport. Please visit to learn how to apply. Deadline is June 24.

Ohio War Orphans Scholarship Program This scholarship is available to children of disabled or deceased war veterans and children of persons declared prisoners of war or missing in action in Southeast Asia. Deadline is July 1.

B. Davis Scholarship The creators of the “ScholarshipQuestHelper” website are offering a scholarship for 2010.Please visit our website at to read about us and to apply for our scholarship.

THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MILITARY COMPTROLLERS (The Ausburg Memorial Scholarship) This $1,000 renewable scholarship is for students that major in accounting, financial management, systems management and related fields. Applications may also be downloaded at asmcaviation.

NFIB Free Enterprise Scholars Award Applicants should demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative, such as starting his or her own business, participation in organizations such as DECA, Junior Achievement and the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. Ron Brown Scholarship Program This Scholarship is for African-American high school seniors that make significant contributions to society. Go to for application download

Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program The purpose is to assist the state in meeting nursing shortages by providing financial assistance to students enrolled approved nursing education programs in Ohio colleges, and to encourage these students to remain in Ohio as they enter the nursing profession. A borrower may be eligible for debt cancellation at a rate of 20% per year for a maximum of five years if the borrower is employed full-time in the clinical practice of nursing in the state of Ohio.
