Michigan First Credit Union- This year the young and Free Michigan Scholarship program will award up to $85,000 in scholarships. $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 will be awarded in three categories. The three categories are: High School senior videos, High School essays, College student videos. Michigan State University Alumni Club of Oakland County- This is for seniors who have been accepted for study and plan to attend Michigan State University for the 2017-2018 school year. The applications are available in the Counselors office.

Nursing Schools Almanac- Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its third annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse. This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to purse college education in nursing, including LPN/LVN, AND, and BSN program. Robert Edward Lang Scholarship- This scholarship is sponsored by the Greater Detroit Chapter of the United Nations Association (GDUNA). The fund awards $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors in Metropolitan Detroit pursuing a degree related to international studies at an accredited college or university.

Rutgers Pre-Engineering Summer Academy- Rutgers University- New Brunswick is excited to announce an opportunity for students interested in engineering. The Rutgers School of Engineering is offered the chance for students to participate in a new Pre- Engineering Summer Academy to develop to their knowledge and skills through real-world field experience. The intensive one-week certificate program will introduce students to a variety of engineering areas including: Aerospace, Biomedical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Forensic, and Mechanical. SIM Detroit STEM Scholarship for high school Seniors (Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics)- The Board of Directors of the Society for Information Management (SIM) Detroit Chapter is announce their inaugural SIM Detroit 2017 STEM Scholarship Program to current high school seniors for use in a Michigan-based STEM-related field of study in a four-year college or university or a two-year community college. Five $1000 scholarships will be awarded. Application available in Counseling Office.

Student-View Scholarship Program- The 2017 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $11,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes: One $4,000 scholarship, two $1,000 scholarships, ten $500 scholarships. It is quick and easy to apply: No minimum AT/ACT score or grade point average, No essay required, No lengthy application forms, No application fees. Simply log on to student- and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winner will be announced in May 2017.

Troy Community Lions- Troy Community Lions will be offering two $500 college scholarships to graduating seniors. They must reside in Troy, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and plan to attend college in September 2017. Application in the Guidance Office.

UNCF STEM Scholarship- The UNCF STEM Scholars Program is a ten-year initiative designed to identify and provide scholarship and academic support for a total of 500 talented African American high school students who aspire to earn STEM degrees and to pursue careers in STEM fields. Walter R. Bemis Memorial Scholarship Application- Will provide a $500 award to a graduating senior of a troy School district employee. Oakland University School of Medicine- Summer Program Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine has a program for high school students who are interested in a career in medicine and bioengineering. The program is a two-week intensive program for students who have expressed interest in medicine, bioengineering, and careers in health science. The purpose of the program is to give students a deeper understanding of the multiple systems and processes of the human body as well as how all people are connected through biodiversity and bioengineering. We also give them exposure to careers in the medical field through special guest lecturers and acquaint them with other students who have the same interest. The program is interactive in nature, allowing students to interact with the human body through technology, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences. Each student will get the opportunity to ask questions about form and function, common diseases and illnesses, and widely used diagnoses. Students interested in this program do not need to have already taken a class in human anatomy in order to participate, everyone is learning at the same level. The program has space for thirty students who will be into their sophomore, junior, and senior year of high school in the upcoming Fall semester. YSPA- Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics- The Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics is a highly selective research and enrichment program for 32 high school juniors and seniors interested in careers in science and technology. After a two-week online course, YSPA students come to Yale for a four-week intensive program, where they take classes in physics, math, and astronomy, gather data using the telescope at Yale’s Leitner Observatory, and to learn to write python code to analyze their data and optimize a scientific model. The “Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do” series is in its eighteenth year of providing helpful, hopeful, practical, applicable information on young people who may be experiencing problems related to alcohol/other drug use. This free, ongoing, two-part series provides critical information and a starting point for further intervention when needed, for families and for professionals who want to help.

Programs are presented on the first (part one) and second (part two) Tuesday evenings of October, November and January through June, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center, 5305 Elliott Drive in Ypsilanti. The series is open to all; reservations are not required. The program is inclusive of parents, other family members, teens, students and people who work with teens – anyone interested in attending is welcome! Parents/guardians, teens and other family members are encouraged to attend together. Part two of the series includes separate break-out sessions for teens and for adults. A certificate to document attendance is provided on request.  

The series is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Ann Arbor Public Schools, the Livingston and Washtenaw Regional Coordinated School Health Network, and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Greenbrook Recovery Center. Presenters are therapists with Dawn Farm Youth and Family Services who specialize in working with substance-involved adolescents and their families.
