Boulder Human Rights Office

individuals in employment, housing, and public accommodations on the basis of age, parenthood, and custody of a minor child. Offers mediation when a discrimination complaint is filed. Offers access to long term care, alternatives to nursing home care, Medicaid/Medicare, public benefits, social security, subsidized housing issues, help applying for ID, foreclosure, debt relief, bankruptcy. Provides representation in court, advice and counseling, assistance completing forms and applications, preparation of legal documents. Home Preservation Project: o Offers assistance to seniors in cases involving threats to home

ownership including: predatory lending, foreclosure, reverse mortgages, debt relief, collection and bankruptcy, and other real estate matters.

A conservatorship is when a designated person is assigned to manage a person's personal finances and/or estate. Conservatorship is usually established during a hearing before a judge. A person under conservatorship is termed a "conservatee," and the person who makes the choices a "conservator."

Provides oversight to regional Area Agencies on Aging (AAA), which provide services and community education programs for seniors ages 60 and older.

Services include: nutrition, transportation, information and referral, national family caregiver support, elder abuse prevention, legal assistance, in-home service program for frail elderly, disease prevention and health promotion, senior community services, and employment.
