December 2019

Happy Holidays! We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a great time in November with all of our fun fall activities.

During the month of December we like to talk to the children about the different “family traditions”. In the past, some traditions mentioned have been decorating the tree on Christmas Eve, getting a family portrait taken for the Christmas card, hot cocoa & cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner on Christmas Eve, celebrating the winter solstice, making latkes, lighting the candles for Kwanzaa, and celebrating the special days of Hanukkah! Once we even had a mom bring in tamales for everyone because it was their traditional holiday meal. We want the children to learn about the many diverse ways families celebrate. You will find the “Our Family Traditions” Form in your child’s file that we ask you to fill out and return. We will be reading these at circle time. It would be great for your child to feel included! If your family does not celebrate the holidays you can include a letter about that for us to share as well.

Holiday Fun:

Please save Friday, December 20th for a fun family event at Learning to Learn. We will be hosting an evening of cookie decorating and crafts. We will provide everything, including some hot chocolate! Join us from 7-8 pm.

Once again we are collecting toys in collaboration with Rohnert Park Public Safety department. We are accepting new, unwrapped toys for either a boy or a girl. You may place them in the barrel in the office lobby. Thank You!

Letter of the Week:

Starting in January we will begin our letter of the week program. Each week we will focus on one or two letters, we will discuss their sound, words that begin with this letter and practice tracing it. Its fun if your child can bring a toy on share day that begins with the focus letter of the week. You can also discuss words that begin with the letter while driving in the car on your way to school. At circle time we ask the children to contribute words to our word board that begin with our letter.

Reminders:

• Dress children in layers with a warm coat!

We will always go outside in the morning and afternoon when it’s cold as long as it’s not raining and there is no frost on the ground. Please put your child’s name inside their coat to help eliminate confusion for the ones that look alike.

• We can always use prizes for our nap prize box!

• Please bring in a Family Photo for our bulletin board if you have not yet done so and remember to bring in the “Family Traditions form” for us to read at Circle Time by December 16th.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Sincerely,

Katrina, Lisa, Cassie, Mary, Michelle & Lacey
