Many thanks to Crillys Sweets, who have purchased additional text books for homework for all year groups. This support is greatly appreciated in these times of financial restraints on educational services and provision. [pic] [pic] [pic]

Over the Halloween break we had a burst pipe in school. Luckily Mrs Watters called in to check on the premises at the weekend and discovered the leak before the water had the opportunity to do extensive damage. We are very grateful to Mr. Gavin Carr who assisted Mrs Watters in locating the source of the problem and turning off the water. Thanks also to everyone who helped with the clean up!

Alta Maths

Well done to all the P5, P6 & P7 children who have achieved their certificates of attainment through the Alta Maths programme. Children from P3 & P4 have also started to use this programme to support their attainment in maths. The children may log into the Alta Maths programme at home and practice the quizzes; however they can only take a Level while in school. We are also using Mangahigh to help raise achievement and enjoyment in this area of the curriculum.

Anti-Bullying Week

Monday 13th to Friday 17th November is Anti-Bullying week. The Pastoral Care Team will give a presentation to the school on the theme of anti-bullying and looking after each other. The Pastoral Care Team play a vital role in promoting good behaviour and providing a good example for all the children. During this week the children will be taking part in activities which will help them to recognise and deal with bullying.

Tuesday 19th December

@ 10:00am & again @ 7:30pm.

Tickets are £5 each & will be available from your child’s class teacher or from the Mrs McAllister in the office from 1st December.

We are now collecting for the annual Shoe Box appeal. Boxes may be handed in to your child’s teacher or to Mrs McAllister in the office.

Attendance

Attendance at school is very important to children’s academic and social development. The Education and Welfare Service make regular checks on pupil attendance. Should a child’s attendance fall below 85% a referral to this service will be made.

You can read more about school attendance and the law here:

It is important that children arrive to their class on time and that they remain in class until the end of the school day. Missing even a few minutes a day can add up to a lot of lost lesson time.

We welcome Mrs Catherine McKevitt and Miss Rachel Hillen to school this year as they train to be Classroom Assistants.

We have delayed our open day for everyone to see around the new building works until the remainder of the furniture arrives and until the flood damage has been repaired.

Child Protection

Our front playground has been marked out with spaces for parents to use for pick up and drop off times. The gate has been widened and is allowing traffic to flow in and out much more freely. Please take great care when dropping off & picking up children at the beginning and end of the school day as the yard can be very busy at these times.

School Dinners

We are very lucky that Killean PS can offer children fresh, healthy, hot dinners made on the school premises by our cook, Mrs Linnie assisted by Mrs Harvey. We encourage the children to avail of this important service which contributes to the development of a healthy lifestyle. Please send in all dinner money with your child on each Monday morning for the week ahead.

Don’t Bug Me!: Advice on Head Lice

Health education about head lice encourages parents/carers and children to:

• Prevent head lice by regular shampooing, conditioning and daily combing of the hair.

• Once a week use a fine tooth plastic or detector comb

• Treat head lice as soon as an infection becomes apparent.

• If infection is apparent, check all family members with fine tooth plastic or detector comb.

It is now recommended that alert letters to parents/carers should not be used as they are seen to cause unnecessary alarm.
