Michael Harold “Bubba” Greer, age 68, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Piedmont Newton Hospital in Covington.

Bubby, the only child of James Harold Greer and Lettye Proctor Greer was born June 4, 1952 at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton. His nickname was given to him by his father, when walking down the hall in the hospital to the nursery to see his son for the first time, he heard a baby crying and said, “That’s got to be my Bubba”, and it was, and the nickname followed him for life.

Bubba graduated from Monticello High School in 1970. He attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated in 1973 with an Associate degree in Forestry. He went on to the University of Georgia and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.

Bubba began working for the Farm Service Agency, which was then known as Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in September of 1975 and retired in September 2008 after thirty-three years of distinguished service. He received many merit awards during his career.

Bubba was best known for his love of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, with turkey and deer hunting being his favorite and enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races. He was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 2011 and his father in 1981.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Elizabeth (Chris) Pellow of Snellville and a number of cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at West View Cemetery. Rev. David Artessa will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robbie Key, Curtis Morgan, Billy Ozburn, Mike Manville, Buddy Tucker, Michael Martin, Dwayne Morgan, Cole Tucker, Corbett Tucker, Adrian Woodruff, William Vaughn, Joe McMichael and Jim Bradley.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, c/o Betty Tuggle 833 McElheney Crossroads, Monticello, Georgia 31064.
