Definitions for Creating Courses
|Definitions - Credit / Non-credit Courses |
|Credit |- course leads to completion of an approved certificate or diploma program through evaluation and grading |
|Non-credit |- stand-alone course; does not lead to completion of an approved certificate or diploma program. Normally, |
| |offered through continuing education. |
|Definitions - Funded / Non-funded Courses |
|Funded: |- course receives funding as part of a Ministry approved program |
| |or |
| |- course receives funding based on the MTCU funding formula, providing that the MTCU guidelines are met. It |
| |can be a stand-alone course or part of a College approved program. |
|Non-funded |- course is cost-recovery; does not receive ministry funding |
| |- can be part of a college-approved program (but not Ministry-approved) |
| |There are two types of funding categories that can be assigned: |
| |a. Other-Vocational: vocational nature/job related skills (can be either a stand-alone course or part of a |
| |college-approved program) |
| |b. Other – General Interest: hobbies, sports, games and of general interest pursuits (can be a stand-alone |
| |course, only) |
|Definitions - Grading Systems |
|The College-wide grading system, which is described in Directive E11, Grading System, is to be applied to all courses. |
|Grade Designations with Numeric Value |
|A+ thru F |Letter grades are used to describe the achievement level attained within a particular course. |
|Grade Designations without Numeric Value |
|P: (Pass) |A “P” is designated for a course which is not graded on the A-F scale but does carry credit value in a |
| |student’s program. A “P” represents successful completion of the course learning requirements. |
|SC: |Satisfactory Completed |“SC” and “NSC” are grades used only for Continuing Education |
| | |non-credit courses. |
|NSC: |Not Satisfactorily Completed | |
|No Grades Required:|A course assigned this grading category requires no evaluation. It is assigned only to non-credit, general |
| |interest courses. The course will not appear on the transcript. |

|Ensure you have an understanding of the purpose of the course when creating it on GeneSIS. Following are some guidelines to help|
|you decide what parameters to assign. |
