College of the Siskiyous Associate in Arts Degree

SOCIAL SCIENCE

The social science major is an interdisciplinary option for students wishing a broad preparation encompassing the disciplines of economics, political science, and sociology. The Social Science curriculum at College of the Siskiyous may also academically prepare the student to transfer to a 4year university to complete a Baccalaureate degree program. It is highly recommended that students who wish to transfer may want to consult their counselor to help them determine the best course of action for their goals.

Important: To obtain the Associate in Arts Degree in Social Science, students must complete the following requirements with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0:

? The Social Science major requirements below. ? The College of the Siskiyous General Education Pattern (COSGE) requirements. ? Any needed electives to reach a total of 60 COS degree-applicable units. ? All major courses and any courses noted on the COSGE check sheet must be completed with

a C or better.

CSCI 1001- Introduction to Computer Science (3) ECON 1010- Principles of Macroeconomics (3) HIST 1017- US History to 1877 (3) POLS 1007- World Politics (3)

Complete one of the following: --------------------------------------------------------------------3 units

SOC 1001- Introduction to Sociology (3) SOC 1002- Social Problems (3)

Complete three of the following: --------------------------------------------------------------------- 9 units
