On a text box, you will have to point to the edge of the frame to see the Move cursor.To resize a frame, move the mouse pointer to any handle on the edge of the frame until you see the Resize cursor. Click on “Blank 8.5x11”.On the Page Design tab of the Ribbon, you should see ‘Colors’ and ‘Fonts’ under ‘Schemes’. Click on the desired color scheme and font scheme.ADDING WORDARTTo add a WordArt title to the top of the flyer, click on the WordArt button in the Text section of the Insert tab. Choose one of the WordArt styles by clicking on it and clicking OK.The Edit WordArt Text box appears. Type “Ice Cream Social.” Notice you can format the WordArt’s font and size, just like in Word.Click OK. You now have WordArt.MOVING WORDARTTo move the object, place your cursor on top of the WordArt. (Note that you may need to move the WordArt toolbar out of the way)You will see a 4-headed arrow. Click, hold, and drag the object up and try to visually center it at the top of your flyer.RESIZING WORDARTPlace your cursor on one of the handles around the edges of the object. Note: If you do not see the handles, it means the object is not selected. Click on the object and you will see the handles and frame appear.When you place your cursor over a handle, the cursor changes to a double-headed arrow. Click, hold, and drag away from the object to increase its size. Let go when you feel it is large enough.FORMATTING WORDARTWhen we added the WordArt onto the publication, the WordArt Tools Format tab appeared on your Ribbon. You can use this tab to edit the WordArt, change its style, and change the formatting of the WordArt. NOTE: If you do not see the WordArt Tools, Format tab on your Ribbon that means the WordArt is not selected. Click on the WordArt on your document to select it, and then you should see the Format tab appear on your Ribbon.Click the WordArt Format tab on the Ribbon. On the Format WordArt box, click the downward-pointing arrow next to the Shape Fill box. Select the color you would like or at the bottom of the drop-down menu select the Gradient, Texture, or Pattern you would like.Choose a style from one of the five tabs: Gradient, Texture, Pattern, Picture, and Tint.Click OK on the Fill Effects box.You can also click on Shape Outline to change the color of the outline around your WordArt. “Weight” changes the thickness of the outline of your WordArt.Click OK on the Format WordArt box.CREATING A TEXT BOXOn the Home tab, in the Objects section, click on Draw Text Box. Click just beneath the ‘I’ in “Ice Cream” in the WordArt, hold the left mouse button, and drag to the opposite corner of the publication. This draws a text box across the document.There should be a blinking cursor in the text box. The default font is Times New Roman size 10. Change the font type to Juice ITC and the font size to 28.Choose the Center alignment option. Begin typing the following text:Type “Saturday, June 21st”Press EnterType “3:00 PM”Press Enter twiceType “1001 American Way”Press EnterType “Lexington, KY 40507”Press Enter twiceType, “There will be a variety of ice cream flavors and toppings.”Press Enter Type, “Come and make a cone or sundae!”Press Enter twiceType, “RSVP & Directions:”Press EnterType, 859-555-1234If the text will not fit into the text box you drew, grab the bottom middle handle and drag down to increase the size of the text box, or you can make the font size smaller. ADDING BACKGROUND COLORClick on the Backgrounds button in the Page Background section of the Page Design tab. If you don’t like the suggested backgrounds, click on More Backgrounds. Choose between Solid Fill, Gradient Fill, Picture or Texture Fill, and Pattern Fill. Adjust colors and gradient stops to your preference. When you have what you want click OK.NOTE: If you don’t like the end result you can always click the Undo arrow in your Quick Access Toolbar area (or hold CTRL and press Z) to get rid of it and try again.ADDING A PICTURETo insert a picture, go to the Insert tab and click on Online Pictures in the Illustrations section.In the box that pops up, you can choose to search Microsoft’s selection of pictures or search the web for pictures. Select either one and type “ice cream” to search for pictures of ice cream.Scroll down through the pictures and when you find one you like you can double-click on it or click once and then click insert.The picture will appear in a frame in your publication. You can move it wherever you like. MOVING CLIP ARTTo move the object, make sure it is selected (if it is selected it will have a frame around it) and place your cursor on top of the clip art. You will see a 4-headed arrow. Click, hold, and drag the object where you would like it place on your flyer.RESIZING CLIP ARTPlace your cursor on one of the handles around the edges of the object.When you place your cursor over a handle, the cursor changes to a double-headed arrow. To increase the size of the clip art, click, hold, and drag away from the object. To decrease the size, click, hold, and drag into the clip art. Let go when you feel it is the right size.ROTATING & FLIPPING CLIP ARTA Format tab will appear on the Ribbon when you click on your picture. Click on the Format tab and find the Rotate Objects button in the Arrange section and click on it (it looks like a two rectangles, one upright and one on its side).A drop-down menu appears that give the option of rotating to the left or right 90 degrees. It also gives the option to Flip Horizontal or Vertical. Flip Horizontal will create a mirror image, horizontally. Flip Vertical will flip the picture upside down.SAVING AND PRINTING YOUR FLYEROnce you have your picture formatted how you would like, go to the file tab and click Save. To the right of that, select Computer, and then select Browse. In the box that pops up click on Documents in the menu on the left, then type the name for your flyer in the File Name box and click Save. Publisher will close that box and take you back to your document. The new name should be displayed at the top of the screen.To print your flyer go to the File tab and select Print. The Print Preview screen will show up with a preview of your flyer. On this screen you can change margins, the size of the paper on which you’re printing, the orientation of your flyer, and the number of copies you’d like to print. If you’re ready to print just click the Print button at the top of the screen. If you see something that needs to be changed you can click on the back arrow at the top of the menu on the left and it will take you back to your document.Exercise #2Business CardGETTING STARTEDGo to the File tab and click New.In the search box type Business Card. Click on the business card that is mostly blue with a yellow globe on it and in the box that pops up click Create.ADDING, EDITING, AND FORMATTING TEXTNext, click inside each box and type in the information that is requested. Ignore the ‘Organization’ logo for right now.For address type:2468 Sugar and Spice LaneLexington, KY 40511In the company name box type:Sweet Side BakeryIn the next box type your nameIn the box that says Title, replace it with OwnerIn the box below that Change the phone number to 859-231-1234Change the email address to info@Change the web-site to If you do not need a line of text, you may delete that portion. Click, hold, and drag over the text “Fax: 206-555-1111.” Hit the Delete key on the keyboard. That text disappears. Highlight the business name and change the font type to Gabriola, make sure it is size 11, and make it Bold. You may need to re-size the text box for the bakery name and move it up a little so everything still fits on the blue bar.Highlight your name and change it to font size 8.Highlight your title and change it to font size 7.MANIPULATING FRAMESNotice that when we deleted the line with the fax number we created some wasted space. We are going to move the text frames around. Click onto the text box with contact information.Grab the bottom middle handle (you should get a double-headed arrow) and drag up about a centimeter.Next, click onto the text box with the address, grab the top handle and drag down a couple of centimeters.Now, we are going to join frames and move them at once. Click the business name text box.Hold down the CTRL key on the keyboard.Click the text boxes for name and title. All three should have their handles showing. Now let go of the CTRL key on the keyboard. You should be able to move all three boxes together, as one while still maintaining text box size and the original grouping of the text boxes.NOTE: We are not going to move these boxes permanently. This is just practice for grouping and moving text boxes as one. You can select any, and as many, text boxes as you like for grouping.INSERTING A LOGOClick on the logo (the yellow globe) on the business card and press the Delete key on your keyboard.Go to the Insert tab of your Ribbon and click on Online Pictures.In the Bing Image Search box type Sweet Side Logo and press Enter.Across the bottom of the pictures that are displayed will be a light yellow bar with a message about licensed images. Click on the “Show all web results” button at the end of the message.In the images that come up, the first image is burgundy with a pink medallion shape that says “Sweet Side”. Click on that and then click the Insert button at the bottom right of the search box.When the image is inserted it is too large for the business card, so we will have to re-size it. Click on a handle at one of the corners of the image, hold the mouse button down and drag toward the center of the picture to make it smaller.When you get it to a reasonable size you can then drag and drop it into position where the original logo was. If the size still isn’t correct adjust it now. NOTE: You may notice if the Sweet Side logo is too big to fit where the original logo was, Publisher might automatically shift the bakery name, your name, and your title over to make room for the logo. If it does and you like how it was shifted over you can leave it like that, or you can adjust the size of the logo and make it a bit smaller.CHANGING THE BACKGROUNDNow that our logo is in place, the blue background of the business card doesn’t exactly match or complement it. To change the background go to the Schemes section of the Page Design tab on your Ribbon.There you will see a box with several color options displayed. If you hover your mouse over each of the color options your business card will change colors to give you a preview of that color scheme. Scroll through the color schemes available and when you find the one you like click on it to select it. ADDING A PICTURENow we want to add a picture of our baked goods to our business card. Go to the Insert tab of your Ribbon and click on Online Pictures.In the Bing Image Search box type “cupcakes” or “cake” and press Enter.Across the bottom of the pictures that are displayed will be a light yellow bar with a message about licensed images. If you want more images, click on the “Show all web results” button at the end of the message.Select the image you like and then click the Insert button at the bottom right of the search box.When the image is inserted it is too large for the business card, so we will have to re-size it. ADDING A TEXT BOXWe’re going to add a tag line for our business, so we’re going to click on Draw Text Box in the Objects section of the Home tab.Use your mouse to draw a text box on your business card. Click where you want to start the text box, hold the mouse button down and drag over and down to create the text box. When you let go of the button the text box will stay. It can be re-sized later if needed.With the text box selected, go to the Font section of the Home tab change the font to Gabriola, size 7.Now type “The sweet side of life is just around the corner…” If the text doesn’t fit in the text box you created, or if your text box is way too large, re-size it by clicking on one of the handles and dragging till it’s the correct size.If you want to move your tag line text box, select it and move your mouse to the frame border. Your mouse cursor will turn into a four-point arrow. Click and drag the text box where you want it. If you want your tag line font color to match the rest of your business card, select the text box, then select / highlight the text inside the box. Go to the Font Color button in the Font section of the Home tab. Click on the triangle to the right of the button. Publisher will show colors that are part of the color scheme you picked for your business card. Pick a color and click on it to select it. Click away from the text box to deselect it.SAVING AND PRINTING YOUR BUSINESS CARDSOnce you have your business card formatted how you want it, go to the File tab and click Save. To the right of that, select Computer, and then select Browse. In the box that pops up click on Documents in the menu on the left, then type the name for your business card in the File Name box and click Save. Publisher will close that box and take you back to your document. The new name should be displayed at the top of the screen.To print your business cards go to the File tab and select Print. The Print Preview screen will show up with a preview of an entire page of your business cards. With business cards you don’t want to change the margins, the size of the paper, or the paper orientation. You want to make sure Multiple Copies Per Sheet is selected, and you can change the number of copies you want to print. Once you’re ready to print just click the Print button at the top of the screen. **If you see something that needs to be changed you can click on the back arrow at the top of the menu on the left and it will take you back to your document.192351811445Exercise #3Birthday CardGETTING STARTEDClick the Publisher icon to open the program.Notice how Publisher opens the Popular Publication Types in the center of the screen. This will open every time Publisher starts up. Click Built-In at the top, just under the search box.You will see the different templates Publisher has. Find Greeting Cards and click on it.All the way at the end of the row of Birthday cards you should see a folder that says “All Birthday”. Click on it.In the cards that come up, select Birthday 3 (it has an orange present with a pink bow) by clicking on it and then clicking Create at the bottom right of the screen. DESIGNING THE CARDOnce the card is open in Publisher, you can edit it. Go to the Page Design tab of the Ribbon and find the Schemes section. Choose the color scheme you like and click on it to select it.On the front of the card where it says “Happy Birthday!” click to select the text. Up on the Ribbon you’ll notice a Text Box Tools Format tab. Click on itOn the Format tab for the text box, go to the WordArt Styles section. Here you can scroll through the styles and pick a different one for your text. You can also change the color and the outline, or add a shadow to your text using the Text Fill, Text Outline, and Text Effects buttons. You can also change the size of the font.Once you’re done editing your text click away from it to deselect the text box.In order to see the rest of the card, you need to click the previews of the other pages in the preview bar on the left side of the screen. Page 1 is the cover, Pages 2 and 3 are the inside pages, and Page 4 is the back cover.In the preview bar on the left click on “Inside of Card” (pages 2 and 3) to bring it up so you can edit what it says.Click on “Birthday Greetings!”, select the text, and delete it. Then type “Happy Birthday!” in its place. You can also click on the Text Box Tools Format tab and change the WordArt style, color, outline, and font size if you like.To add a text box the left side of the card go to the Home tab of the Ribbon and click on Draw Text Box in the Objects section. Position your cursor on the left side of the card and click and drag to create the text box. Once you’ve created it you can type a message and edit it.Now click on the back of the card to edit it. The back of the card says, “Made especially for you by:” and below that is another text box in which to put your name. Click on that text box, delete the text there and type your name.PRINTING AND SAVING To see how your document will print, click on the File tab, then select Print. This card will print on one sheet and be folded twice to create the card, which is why portions of the card appear upside down at first. When you’re done previewing your print, click the arrow at the top left to go back to your card, or click Print to print it.To save, click on the File tab, then select Save. To the right make sure Computer is selected, then click Browse. Browse to My Documents and name your file in the File Name box. Click Save at the bottom.
