Once on this Island Summary & Audition InformationHow far would you go for love? Would you give up your bed? Would you go without food and water? Would you walk an unfathomable distance? Would you give your soul for their safety and protection? These are the questions raised by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty’s Once on this Island. Based on Rosa Guy’s beautiful 1985 fable, My Love, My Love; or The Peasant Girl, this show tells the story of a young, peasant woman who finds a dying man at the site of a car crash and makes a bargain with the gods to see that he is made well. When his health is restored it is discovered that he is the son of a wealthy aristocrat from the opposite side of their island home; to which he returns. Thus, she begins her long journey to find her love. Can her love for him bridge the physical gap between them, and can their love for one another break down the divides of the classist system keeping them apart?Trish Bradshaw and I are very excited to be embarking on this creative journey together and cannot wait to bring this gorgeous show to life at the Boykin Center. The cast only calls for two elementary-age children: one boy and one girl, but there is a large and highly active ensemble needed for this production. Please note that there is also a huge need for a tech crew in this production, as well.
