The student will know the principles and importance of health and safety requirements for working in dental settings. The student will have an understanding of the principles of infection prevention and control in dental settings, and will have applied those skills when working in the clinical environment. They will understand the importance of effective communication, have knowledge of different forms of communication and how to use them confidently. The student will have an understanding of the reception and administration roles and responsibilities in a dental setting. They will be able to carry out the reception role, and understand the benefits of working within this role. They will develop knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and duty of care. They will explore the role within a dental setting with regards to safeguarding. The student will understand the importance of the regulatory bodies and will know the professional principles of working in a dental setting. Students will have a basic understanding of the structure and function of oral and dental anatomy. They will be able to understand the link between oral and general health conditions. The student will explore the different dental procedures carried out in dental settings. They will understand the roles and responsibilities during medical emergencies and the importance of first aid provision in dental settings.
