Dr. Eugene A. Isola III: From Our Family to Yours

-Three Generations of Caring Family Dentistry-

OLD BRIDGE, NJ, May 11, 2015… “I was always interested in anatomy, in the medical sciences, even as a child,” says Dr. Eugene A. Isola III. “Although I considered other careers in medicine, it’s fair to say that my father and grandfather had a huge influence on my becoming a dentist and I followed in their footsteps.”

Inspired by his forbearer’s examples of passion and dedication to the profession, Dr. Isola chose the same path. Most recently, Dr. Isola has relocated his practice to the new, state-of-the-art 92,000 sq. ft. Medical and Surgical Pavilion at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge.

Dr. Isola is the great grandson of an Italian immigrant who valued education, a quality which has descended through the generations of the Isola family. Grandfather Dr. Eugene Anthony Isola, Sr. graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1935. Dr Isola’s father – Eugene Anthony Isola, Jr. - graduated from NYU School of Dentistry in 1965.   Dr. Isola graduated from New York University College of Dentistry, class of 1986.  Dr. Isola’s brother Peter also chose dentistry as a career.

This year, the Isola family is celebrating 80 years of providing progressive, compassionate dental care to generations of families spanning New Jersey and New York.

Following his graduation from Tufts, Dr. Isola’s grandfather opened a practice in the Dyker Heights section of Bay Ridge Brooklyn, where he practiced his entire career, through the 1970s. Today, Dr. Isola’s brother – Dr. Peter Isola - continues to practice at the same location, treating patients whose parents and grandparents were treated by his grandfather.

“I was fortunate to know my grandfather growing up,” recalls Dr. Isola. “He would be at my little league games; he was a very involved grandparent.”

Dr. Isola believes his grandfather was proud of his grandson’s choice of profession. “My grandfather passed away in my first year of dental school,” recalls Dr. Isola. “I have always been glad that he knew that I was going to be a dentist.”

“My father grew up in Dyker Heights, which in the 1940s and 50s, was largely populated by Italian families,” says Dr. Isola. “He graduated from Seton Hall University, and he married my mother Margaret before he entered dental school. Their four children were born while Dad was attending NYU dental school –me, my brothers Peter and Joseph, and my sister Mary. Even with a rapidly expanding family, dad still graduated third in his class.”

“We’re not all dentists,” laughs Dr Isola. “My sister Mary received her master’s degree in teaching from Wagner College and did marry a dentist, and my brother Joseph is the Superintendent of the middle school district in Howell, New Jersey.” Dr. Isola met his future wife Carolanne in 1978. “She graduated from Wagner College,” says Dr. Isola, “and then worked in my father and grandfather’s practice, and then with me when I started practicing, before we started our family.”

Dr. Isola and his brother Peter went into practice with their father after graduating from dental school, and the three practiced together for nearly 15 years. “It was a very special time for us all,” remembers Dr. Isola. “My father was supportive of everything that my siblings and I did. He was a guy who always told us to believe in ourselves. He helped to make me the dentist I am today.”

Eventually, Dr. Isola moved his practice to New Jersey and settled his family in Monroe Township. “My brother took over the Brooklyn practice from my dad, and I started a solo practice in New Jersey,” says Dr. Isola. “I am committed to providing the same personalized, high quality care to my patients that my father and grandfather provided to their patients over generations.”

Dr. Isola’s team of dental professionals ensures each patient’s comfort and safety, providing optimal oral healthcare and 5-star service. As a team, they are committed to ongoing training and education to keep current on the latest technologies in general, restorative and cosmetic dentistry for the entire family. Dr. Isola is also an Associate Professor at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, as well as on staff at Raritan Bay Medical Center.

The Medical and Surgical Pavilion in Old Bridge, 2 Hospital Plaza, is a welcome new home for Dr. Isola’s patients, with ample free parking and a convenient location. The new space features a fully computerized, paperless office for secure record keeping, high-resolution, digitalized x-rays for accurate diagnosis, and nitrous oxide to ensure patient comfort. Dr. Isola is joined in the new pavilion by many other highly-trained physicians also on staff at the medical center, and on-site diagnostic imaging services. The pavilion, connected to main hospital by a glass-enclosed sky bridge, is the new healthcare destination for central Jersey residents.

What’s next for the Isola family? A fourth generation of Isola dentists is currently in training. Dr. Isola’s youngest son, Frank, is an honors student at Penn State and plans to become a dentist. Dr. Isola’s eldest son, Eugene A. Isola IV, graduates from college this spring and will attend NYU College of Dentistry in the fall. Dr. Isola's eldest child Christine is currently attending a doctoral program at Temple University with intentions of becoming a college professor, and expects to graduate in 2017.

The Raritan Bay community can almost certainly look forward to many more years of compassionate, state-of-the-art dental care by the Isola family. For more information or to make an appointment, call 732-360-2500 or visit .
