Arrival By air

Denver International Airport, often called DIA, is the largest international airport (53 square miles) in the United States and the second largest international airport in the world. The airport is located in the far north-eastern part of Denver, about 25 miles (40 km) from downtown.

It is recommend that delegates use the SupperShuttle. The rates are $19 one way or $34 round trip. There is a conveniently located counter (open from 7AM – 11PM) to verify pick-up time (every 15 minutes ~ 4AM to 12 AM) and location. It drops-off and picks-up (for return trip) right at the Marriott City Center Hotel.

Taxis are available from the airport but are more (approx $45 one way) expensive. To hire one you will need to exit the terminal at level 5 through the following doors: 505, 507, 510, and 512, and proceed to Island 1. Once there, a dispatcher will assist you. Travel times between the airport and downtown Denver runs between 35 to 45 minutes depending on the time of day.

All major brands of rental cars are available. Rental counters are located in the center of the baggage claim area (level 5) and are identifiable by their corporate identify.

climate

Denver is 5280 feet (1 mile) above sea level and situated on the high plains at the base of the Rocky Mountains. Its climate is best described as “semi-arid,” averaging just under 16 inches of precipitation annually. Moderate temperatures, low levels of humidity, and abundant sunshine provide an ideal climate for year-round activities. Weather at the end of September normally averages in the high 50°’s (F), but the chance of snow always exists. However, snow storms are short lived and snow rarely stays on the ground very long due to the abundance of sunshine and rapidly moderating temperatures.

VISAS

Delegates from outside the United States are advised to check with their agency about regulations for visas.

CURRENCY

Assume that only the U.S. dollar (USD) is accepted in Denver.

All major credit and debit cards are accepted in U.S, in places displaying their logo at the entrance.

There are several 24 hour money machines within and surrounding the hotel.
