New York City Department of EducationOffice of School Support ServicesAudit Coordinator for CompliancePosition Summary: The Office of School Support Services is dedicated to providing safe, attractive, appetizing, nutritionally sound meals in a timely manner to the school children of the City of New York. The Audit Coordinator for Compliance has an integral role in the quality of services provided to the students of New York City. The Audit Coordinator for Compliance will work cross functionally with offices in School Support Services along with other business units in the Department of Education. The Audit Coordinator for Compliance will work closely with the high risk schools regarding the collection of the verification and accuracy of student categorization of free, reduced and full priced meals. These high risk schools include new schools, base year universal school meals schools, schools that are on hold (for up to possibly 3 years), non compliant schools from the previous school year, and schools not visited in 2 years. The Audit Coordinator will lead a team working closely with administration in schools and the Chief Compliance Officer in rectifying any issues associated with applications for meal service. This past school year, 908 schools were visited for at risk purposes. The follow up to principals is constant and the Audit Coordinator will be the point person for problem resolution for schools to move away from a high risk category. Performs related work.Reports to: Chief Compliance Officer Direct Reports: Supervisors and administrative support within the unit.Key Relationships: Relationships will be fostered with all levels of staff and management within the Office of SchoolFood as well as with principals, network leaders and other administrative offices within the Department of Education.ResponsibilitiesOversees the annual state mandated internal audits of 500+ high risk schools to ensure the Child Nutrition Program requirements (Note: Each school is to receive a minimum of 2 audits per year and follow-up visits as necessary until compliance is achieved). Serves as the audit liaison to SchoolFood supervisors and managers, principals, network leaders and other administrative groups.Teams work with the Student Eligibility Coordinator to ensure integrity of the meal applications and eligibility data; works closely with the Point of Service (POS) Coordinator to monitor system for optimum functionality and address issues in a timely fashion; works closely with the Finance Unit regarding meal and cash claim reports and issues subsequent reports; improves and develops tools and procedures to assist SchoolFood administration including school level staff to effectively manage accountability and cash handling.Develops training modules and implements training for all areas of meal accountability and cash handling procedures; oversees meal accountability training to schools and SchoolFood auditing group which includes the Task Force Technical Advisors.Provides status reports on site visits conducted by the auditing group and supervisors; provides statistical and operational analysis of site visits by schools and issues for executive review; prepares summaries, recommendations and action plans to address accountability issues and improves internal controls to reduce violations at school, state and federal levels.Administers annual State Coordinated Review Effort (CRE) audits and schools on ADP hold for federal and state reimbursements; provides technical assistance to schools to facilitate release from hold and achieve compliance. Coordinates and oversees site visits for a specific group of schools such as Charter, Non-public, as well as schools participating in the Provision 2/Universal School Meals program; teams up with other SchoolFood departments and offices to obtain information or conduct visits which affects meal participation and reimbursements; assists with executive assignments which requires data collection and research.Qualification Requirements:MinimumA baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in foods, culinary arts, nutrition, hotel/restaurant institutional management, baking and pastry arts, food service entrepreneurship, dietetics, food service administration, health and nutrition sciences with a concentration in foods and nutrition, or a closely related field, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience in managing a restaurant or quantity food service operation, or as a nutritionist or dietitian, at least eighteen months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing duties in one or more of the fields described above; orAn associate degree from an accredited college with a major in foods, culinary arts, nutrition, hotel/restaurant institutional management, baking and pastry arts, food service entrepreneurship, dietetics, food service administration, health and nutrition sciences with a concentration in foods and nutrition, or a closely related field, and six years of full-time satisfactory experience in managing a restaurant or quantity food service operation, or as a nutritionist or dietitian, at least eighteen months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity as described in "1" above.PreferredDemonstrated success in a management role within large organizations.Knowledge and understanding of overall organizational strategy.
