U.S. Department of Defense Becomes First Federal Agency to Mandate Compliance with Global Criteria for Personnel Credentialing (March 1, 2006)

The Department of Defense is now requiring its agency personnel and contractors who perform certain Information Assurance functions to be certified by credentialing bodies that have been independently accredited by a third party. This is the federal government’s first venture into mandating increased accountability from personnel certification bodies.

Dr. Clayton Teague Addresses Senate Committee on U.S. Leadership in Nanotechnology (February 22, 2006)

In a testimony to the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Dr. Clayton Teague, director of the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office, highlighted the activities of the National Nanotechnology Initiative in driving the United States to a position of leadership in nanotechnology research and development.

Network of RHIOs to Aid in Establishment of Nationwide Health Information Network (February 23, 2006)

Electronic health records, which are expected to enable safe, cost-efficient, and quality healthcare, were a topic of discussion at the 2006 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition. The conference provided a forum to examine the latest issues in healthcare today, including the role of RHIOs (regional health information systems).

U.S Department of Energy Turns to NEMA Program for Energy Efficiency Criteria (February 16, 2006)

The Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Management Program recently issued a federal notice mandating federal purchase of NEMA Premium motors in federal facilities. The standard supports energy-smart management—a concept which has seen increased demand across many industries in recent years.
