Program Volunteer Description

Title: Volunteer Youth Programs Supervisor: Branch Program Director

Location: YMCA of Central Kentucky: Beaumont, High Street, North Lexington,

Jessamine County YMCA or Scott County YMCA

SUMMARY: Volunteers will lead and instruct youth, ages 3-13. Individuals will have the opportunity to lead a sport or activity that they enjoy and be a role model all while teaching youth sports in a manner consistent with the parameters established by the YMCA of Central Kentucky. A sincere interest and enjoyment in working with and teaching youth the principles of not only the sport, but the four core values of the YMCA (Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Honesty) are an integral part of the volunteers responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Commit to one day of practice per week and one game per weekend. Volunteers may pick from established days/times for practices as set by the Program Directors.

• Volunteers will do their best to become familiar with the rules and fundamental skills of the sport they are instructing. All Volunteers are asked to attend a training session prior to the start of the practice/play. YMCA of Central KY staff will hand out valuable information that is sport specific and includes: practice sessions, rules, weekly ‘themes’, healthy snack ideas, etc.

• Volunteers are asked to work with YMCA staff to help enforce rules and regulations. Insuring fun, fair play and equal playing time for all youth is essential.

• Volunteers will communicate regularly with the players, parents and YMCA staff throughout the season.

• All Volunteers are expected to uphold the mission and philosophy of the YMCA in words and actions while representing the YMCA.

QUALIFICATIONS

To successfully accomplish this volunteer task, an individual must be competent in performing each essential duty. This individual must be able to take initiative, have strong time management skills and work independently. They must have excellent human relation skills and be able to work effectively with staff members, volunteers and the public. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS

• Volunteers must be 18 or older. If under 18, there must be someone over 18 supervising at all times during practices and games.

• Volunteers must submit to a YMCA approved background check and be cleared PRIOR to the start of the program and any involvement with the youth.

• Must be able to persuade and motivate others into action

• Must possess a positive attitude.

• Must be a highly motivated self-starter.

• Must possess a true passion for the YMCA and its mission of serving people.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by a volunteer to successfully perform the essential functions of the task. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

• Volunteer is regularly required to use hands & arms, climb or balance, talk & hear.

• The volunteer frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch.

• The volunteer must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Characteristics of the work environment are representative of those that may be encountered by a volunteer while performing the essential functions of the task.

• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

• Volunteers are frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.

• Volunteers are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and frequent body traffic in work areas.

• Noise levels in the work environment is usually moderate.

• The mission and purpose of the YMCA is effectively interpreted to members, participants and the community

• The maintenance of facilities and equipment in a manner that promotes participation and promotes a wholesome environment
