Arizona Business Emergency Coordination Center (BECC)

The Arizona BECC is activated in times of crisis to facilitate the dissemination of information, determination of needs, and coordination of resources and efforts among the private sector during an emergency. Most often, the BECC is staffed by a DEMA representative and those Private Sector partner(s) (virtually) that are affected or impacted by the incident and in concert with a State Emergency Operations Center activation.

Sector Description The Chemical Sector is divided into five main segments: basic chemicals, specialty chemicals, agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products. The Commercial Facilities Sector includes mostly facilities that are privately-owned and operated with minimal interaction with government or regulatory entities.

The Communications Sector includes the operations of all businesses, public safety organizations, and government. The Critical Manufacturing Sector includes the manufacturing of primary metals, machinery, transportation and electrical equipment, appliances and components.

The Dams Sector is comprised of assets that include dam projects, hydropower generation facilities, navigation locks, levees, dikes, hurricane barriers, mine tailings and other industrial waste impoundments, and other similar water retention and water control facilities. The Defense Industrial Base Sector is the worldwide industrial complex that enables research and development, as well as design, production, delivery, and maintenance of military weapons systems, subsystems, and components or parts.

The Emergency Services Sector represents the nation's first line of defense (e.g., law enforcement, fire and emergency services, public works, emergency management, emergency medical services) in the prevention and mitigation of risk from terrorist attacks, man-caused emergencies, and natural disasters The Energy Sector is responsible for supplying fuels to the transportation industry; electricity to households, businesses and other sources that are integral to growth; and production across the nation.

The Financial Services Sector represents financial institutions that provide a broad array of products from the largest institutions with assets greater than $1 trillion to the smallest community banks and credit unions.

The Food and Agriculture Sector is almost entirely under private ownership and is composed of an estimated 2.2 million farms, 900,000 restaurants, and more than 400,000 registered food manufacturing, processing, and storage facilities.

The Government Facilities Sector includes a wide variety of buildings, located in the United States and overseas, that are owned or leased by federal, state, local, and tribal governments (e.g., schools, institutions of higher education, and business and trade schools). The Healthcare and Public Health Sector protects all sectors of the economy from hazards such as terrorism, infectious disease outbreaks, and natural disasters.

The Information Technology Sector provides hardware, software and information technology systems, and services. The Nuclear Reactors, Materials and Waste Sector includes nuclear power plants; non-power nuclear reactors for research, testing and training; manufacturers of nuclear reactor components; and radioactive materials used primarily in medical, industrial and academic settings. The Transportation System Sector consists of seven subsectors/modes: aviation, highway infrastructure and motor carrier, maritime transportation systems; mass transit and passenger rail, postal and shipping, pipeline systems, and freight rail.

The Water and Wastewater System Sector includes the public drinking water systems and publicly owned wastewater treatment systems in the United States.
