TASK 9 – PREPARED SPEECH

Grade 11

2009

The prepared speech will take the form of a debate.

1. Learners will be in pairs.

2. Each pair will receive one motion.

3. One learner will be the proposer and the other learner will be the opponent.

4. The length of each motion may not be more than 3 minutes or less than 1½ minute.

The motion

1. Opening statement or introduction

2. The body must support the opening statement with evidence.

3. Closing statement

Motions

1. Corporal punishment should/should not be reintroduced in South African schools.

2. Rugby should/should not be replaced by soccer in all schools.

3. Cellphones should/should not be allowed in schools.

4. It is important to lie/not lie for your friends.

5. English should be the only official/ should not be the only official language of South Africa.

6. Age restrictions for movies and television are/are not necessary.

7. The past should/should not be remembered.
