I was in bed and half asleep when it came to me. Fearful of forgetting it, I got up and made a bunch of random notes and then went back to bed. When they still made sense the next morning I decided it must have really been Him. Here's the message I received.?Man's religion tells us:?For our salvation, it's faith plus works. For our health, it's faith plus modern medicine. For our life, it's faith plus self-reliance.?The majority of religious people believe that faith is only part of the equation that leads to success. They think it's a good beginning, but it has to be supplemented by human effort to produce the result we want. To them, it explains why some people of faith appear to be better off than others.?But God's Word tells us:?You can't serve two masters (Matt. 6:24). A double minded man shouldn't expect anything from the Lord (James 1:7-8). Don't store up treasure on Earth (Matt. 6:19). Sell everything you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in Heaven (Mark 10:21).?According to the Bible, faith is not just one part of the equation, it's the whole thing. We're either walking by faith or we're not. There's no middle ground, no balanced approach, no hedging our bets.?And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'?"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."'?"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'?"This is how it will be for anyone who stores things up for himself but is not rich toward God." (Luke 12:16-21)?This is called the Parable of the Rich Fool for a reason. He was preparing for a future that would never come and in the process had missed a bunch of opportunities to express his gratitude to God for the blessings he had received by using his excess to bless others (he wasn't being rich toward God).? Who among us can guarantee that the future we're preparing for will come to pass for us? In the meantime how many opportunities to express our gratitude to God through our generosity to others are we missing? There are people in every community who don't have enough to eat today. How can we justify storing up for ourselves against the possibility of hard times in the future when there are urgent needs all around us today? The Lord told us not to worry about tomorrow because tomorrow will worry about itself. Instead we should seek His Kingdom and His righteousness and let Him meet our needs day by day (Matt. 6:31-34).?Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Cor. 9:6-8)?The Lord hasn't called us to store up goods for ourselves in case we'll need them in the future, but He has called us to share what we have now, promising to give us more as we do. And before you say, "What about Joseph in Egypt?" read Genesis 41 again.?Upon learning of the coming famine, Joseph didn't tell the Egyptians to begin storing up their excess. Instead, he imposed a 20% levy on the harvest and collected all the extra grain in Egypt during seven years of plenty. When the famine came he sold it back to the very people he had taken it from. When he had all their money, he took their animals, and when he had all their animals he took their land, and finally he took them. By the end of the famine the people of Egypt were destitute slaves who literally belonged to Pharaoh (Genesis 47:13-21). Joseph had made him the richest man in the world.?The only free people left in Egypt were Pharaoh, the priests he supported, and the 70 members of Jacob's family, who had never contributed anything to Egypt but were given its most fertile land. Until a few years ago it was most likely the biggest government orchestrated transfer of wealth in history. I'm convinced the main purpose of the famine was to move Jacob's family to Egypt and restore Joseph to them. It certainly wasn't meant to improve the lot of the Egyptian people.?"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matt. 6:19-21)?But even if you don't consider the outcome, the famine in Egypt is not a model for our times. Unlike Joseph, we're not being told to store up treasure on Earth to prepare for a temporary time of hardship here. We're being told to store up treasure in Heaven to prepare for a permanent relocation there.?Do not take along any gold or silver or copper in your belts; take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep. (Matt. 10:9-10)?This was the Lord's instruction to the 12 disciples as He sent them out to preach the good news. When you're working for Him, He takes care of the expenses. Even when He was alerting them to the difficult times ahead, as in Luke 21:12-19, He never advised them to create a secret stash in the mountains, but to stand firm in their faith that He would keep His promise to them. And His warning to people in Israel when the Great Tribulation begins is to not take anything with them when they flee (Matt. 24:15-18).?Paul complimented the Macedonian churches when out of their own severe trials came overflowing joy at the opportunity to help others, and who in their extreme poverty demonstrated rich generosity. Paul called this a manifestation of God's grace (2 Cor. 8:1-2). They had every reason to save up what little extra they had against an uncertain future but instead delighted in the opportunity to help others even worse off than they were.?Some who advocate storing things up for the future claim it's a demonstration of good stewardship. But the Bible's definition of stewardship is to think of ourselves as a distribution channel for the Lord's blessings. Give and it will be given to you, Jesus said, for with the measure you use it will be measured to you. (Luke 6:38). Our job is to begin the process by giving out of our excess. The Lord, who loves a generous giver, will send us more so we'll have more to give.?Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. (2 Cor. 9:6)?A farmer knows the size of his harvest will ultimately be determined by the manner in which he sows the seed. Knowing this, would he sow as little as possible and hide the rest for fear that he wouldn't have enough in the future? Sowing generously brings a bountiful harvest assuring there will plenty for consumption now as well as sufficient seed for future sowing.?Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. (2 Cor. 9:10-11)?It's the same with God. Generously sowing the blessings God has given us will assure a bountiful harvest. We'll have more than enough for ourselves leaving plenty to share with others. And the more generously we sow, the more generously we'll reap.?Nowhere is this advice conditioned upon making sure we first have our own future needs met. Instead we're told that generously sharing what we have now is the one thing that can guarantee our future needs will be met.?You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today. (Deut. 8:17-18)?Like the Israelites, you could say, "It's my money and I can do whatever I want with it." Once again, the Bible disagrees. There are plenty of people just as smart and just as talented as you are. They also work as hard as you work, but what they have doesn't come close to what you have. The difference is you were blessed by God. It may have come in the form of an opportunity you happened upon, or the family you were born into, or even the country in which you live. But whatever it was, there is no exclusive connection between your capability and your reward. You are not the proverbial self made man. The fact is you've been blessed and your generosity is a demonstration of the extent to which you understand this and are grateful for it.?After a previous message like this someone asked, What are we supposed to do? Give away everything and just live hand to mouth? Based on Mark 10:21 the answer would be yes, but remember, it's from God's hand to our mouth and we can depend on Him.?This doesn't have to begin as a big deal and you don't have to work through your church if you don't want to, although some churches have great programs for helping others. If yours doesn't have such a program you could help start one, or you can go through a local Food Bank, Homeless Shelter, Rescue Mission or equivalent. You could start by just reducing your stock of "emergency" supplies and making a contribution to one of these organizations. Or you could hold a garage sale and get rid of a bunch of stuff you don't use any more and hand them a check.?While you're there ask some questions to find out what they do and how great the need is. Check out all the local programs and pitch in where you see the Lord working. I promise you it will soon become the most personally rewarding thing you do, and you'll thank the Lord for blessing you so richly.?The darkest headlines I have read in years - Joel C. Rosenberg - this week, I flew back to the U.S. from Israel for several speaking engagements.?In the coming days, I speak (and blog) about the crumbling U.S.-Israel alliance, the Iran nuclear alliance, the horrific advance of the Islamic State across Syria and Iraq, and what happens to America, Israel and the nations of the Middle East according to Bible prophecy.?But I need to draw your attention to some of the most troubling headlines I have seen in years. The news in the Middle East is dark and getting darker, to be sure. But the headlines here in America are getting very dark as well - mass shootings around the nation, the slaughter of nine Christians inside the black church in Charleston, the 12 shot in a Louisiana movie theater, and four Marines gunned down in Chattanooga, all of which happened in July alone; Planned Parenthood executives caught discussing how best to sell hearts, lungs and brains from aborted babies; and now the unveiling of a sculpture of Satan in Detroit in what is being promoted as the largest public Satanic ceremony in American history.?No, this is not fiction. These are not plots of my future novels. This is all happening across America this month.?Consider the following:?*Undercover video shows Planned Parenthood official discussing fetal organs used for research (Washington Post)*Second video shows Planned Parenthood doc haggling over price of fetal body parts (Fox News)*The price of fetal parts (Charles Krauthammer, Washington Post)*Planned Parenthood Selling Dead Baby Parts Put Liberal Media in a 'Quandary' (Bill O'Reilly, Fox News)?I am absolutely sickened by these videos in which Planned Parenthood executives discuss - so coldly, so cruelly - the selling of human body parts over a lunch of salad and wine.?Captured on tape by the undercover video sting operation of a pro-life organization, these two executives discuss without shame or remorse how they would be happy to ask doctors who perform abortions on human babies to be extra careful to kill the babies in such a way that their livers, lungs, brains and other body parts can be extracted intact and sold. One Planned Parenthood leader says the babies can be killed in a "less crunchy" way. The other casually jokes that she'd like to make enough money from the sales of these body parts to buy "a Lamborghini."?Have you watched the videos? Please do, and please share them with others. People need to know the truth. The mainstream media is giving some coverage to the story, but not nearly enough. This is sick. This is barbaric. This is the stuff of Dr. Mengele and the Nazis, and it isn't happening on the other side of the world in Auschwitz; it is happening right in America every day.?Planned Parenthood is an organization that kills more than 300,000 babies in the womb every year. It also receives more than a half-billion dollars a year of federal money - that's right, your taxpayer dollars and mine. Congress should immediately cut off all taxpayer funds to the group. PP should be investigated for criminal activity (it is illegal to sell body parts for profit). Congress should also immediately pass pending legislation to ban abortion after 20 weeks. And pro-life legislators and activists in Washington, D.C. and the States need to make a new push to end abortion once and for all in this nation.?Since 1973, more than 57 million babies have been aborted in this country. Their innocent blood is crying from the ground for justice, and God is listening. If we do not plead for His forgiveness and turn this thing around, judgment is coming.?These headlines alone would be horrific enough. But it gets worse. Consider this headline just published today:?*Group To Unveil Satan Statue In Detroit During 'Largest Public Satanic Ceremony In History' (AP/CBS Detroit)???Here are excerpts from this story, published by the Associated Press and CBS News in Detroit:?*A group is planning to unveil an 8-foot-tall bronze statue featuring a goat-headed Satan in Detroit during a gathering that's being billed as the "largest public satanic ceremony in history."*The Satanic Temple has said Saturday's private event will be open only to people with tickets, $25 each.*Invitations to "The Unveiling" summoned guests to prepare for "a night of chaos, noise, and debauchery... Come dance with the Devil and experience history in the making." The event location is not being announced publicly and is known only to those with tickets.*The group said the bronze Baphomet monument, which weighs about one ton and has never been seen before in public, "is not only an unparalleled artistic triumph, but stands as a testament to plurality and the power of collective action." The statue, which backed by an inverted pentagram and flanked by statues of two young children gazing up at the creature, shows Satan with horns, hooves, wings and a beard.*The group went on to say the unveiling event "will serve as a call-to-arms from which we'll kick off our largest fight to date in the name of individual rights to free exercise against self-serving theocrats."*Photography is strictly prohibited at the 18-and-older event unless, of course, you're a $75 VIP ticket holder. Those partygoers will have an exclusive opportunity to be photographed seated on the Baphomet monument.....*The statue had been planned for the state Capitol in Oklahoma City until Oklahoma's Supreme Court banned a monument of the Ten Commandments on Capitol grounds.*Detroit was ultimately selected for the unveiling because The Satanic Temple in the city has a "strong congregation," with more than 200 registered members....?It is sobering how rapidly evil is rising in this country, how brazen, how public. We need to humble ourselves. We need to get on our knees. We need to seek Christ's forgiveness and His mercy on this country. We need to do it now, or we will face the consequences foretold in the Bible thousands of years ago.?Consider just one passage of many:?"7 At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot, to pull down, or to destroy it; 8 if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it. 9 Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it; 10 if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will think better of the good with which I had promised to bless it." (Jeremiah 18:7-10)To gratify Tehran and Moscow, new US-Turkish anti-ISIS war campaign in Syria skirts Assad's forces - 's-forces-??After the second successive night of Turkish cross-border bombing attacks on the Islamic State in northern Syria, Ankara and Washington agreed Saturday, July 25, to name the "security zone" covered by a "partial no fly zone" they had declared in northern Syria the "Islamic State free zone." Click HERE for full-size map!?This name represents a significant US-Turkish concession to Iran of immunity for its allies, Syrian President Bashar Assad and Hezbollah, in order to gain Tehran's cooperation in the campaign Turkey launched against ISIS Friday. Integral to the deal is also a promise to abstain from using the campaign to grant anti-Assad rebel groups any advantages.?This immunity did not extend to the Kurdish Workers Movement (PKK), which were targeted in the course of Turkish air and ground action in and over the new "security zone." Those warplanes also flew missions Friday night over the PKK bases and logistical facilities in the Qandil Mountains of northern Iraq. The PKK responded Saturday with an announcement that their armistice with Ankara was over. Turkey may consequently expect a recurrence of Kurdish terrorist violence in its cities, debkafile notes.?High-placed sources in Ankara disclosed details of the US-Turkish deal with Iran. US warplanes will have the use of Turkish air bases, and not just the big Incirlik facility, for staging air strikes against ISIS, so long as Syrian targets are avoided. Washington agreed to Ankara using its air and ground operations against ISIS in Syria to drive into the new "security zone" and push toward the east to continue those attacks - eve if they run up against Kurdish forces which are also fighting ISIS.?The security zone's area covered by a no-fly zone is 90 km wide and 40km deep, running between Mere, a small town 25? km north o Aleppo in the west, to the northwestern town of Jarabulus, which is situated on the west bank of the Euphrates.??Not exactly by chance, the security zone bisects Kurdish territory and holds back Kurdish forces in their assaults on ISIS.?debkafile's military sources report that a glance at the map betrays an all-out US-Turkish effort not put up backs in Tehran by interfering with Syrian, Hezbollah and pro-Iranian militia operations in critical northern Syrian war zones such as Aleppo or give the Syrian rebels a helping hand in the Idlib province.?The combined US-Turkish action moreover greatly supports the Assad-Hezbollah war against ISIS gains in Syria and enhances Iranian and Russian influence in Damascus. ?US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, in Irbil Friday, July 24, assured leaders of the semiautonomous Kurdish Republic of Iraq. "We are trying to build a force through the territory of Iraq, and someday in Syria, that can do what the Peshmerga have achieved."?At the same time, in Syria, the Kurds and their national aspirations look like losing out dramatically in the fallout from the complex US-Turkish partnership for beating ISIS back.??The Rapture and the Thief in the Night - Trailer??We must all face the facts and realize that all of us have friends and family members that are going to miss the rapture. It is Superb! For those that don't know much, or anything about Bible Prophecy, this DVD should really open their eyes, a great teaching tool. For those that have grown cold or indifferent in the Lord, this should awaken them." T. Nelson??"The DVD provides an effective mix of biblical teaching and history, interspersed with the happenings in Israel today.? Particularly effective is the emotional ending showing the return of Jewish people worldwide back to Israel and traveling with a sense of destiny.? Many commentators have said Israel is God's hour hand, Jerusalem is the minute hand, and the Temple Mount is the second hand on God's timepiece.? Loved it!!! - G. Madison - Oklahoma??I watched "Israel God's Timepiece" last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have loved Israel ever since I read the book "Exodus", when I was in the Army in 1958. I do everything I can to support Israel and get people involved in what they are going through, and more than that, to pray for Peace in Jerusalem, according to Psalm 122. Your DVD was a fitting tribute to this wonderful, spectacular country and God's very own "baby". Thanks for taking the time to put it together. Very well done. - J. Masters - Mississippi? It is really a professional production and I see why it is so well received. In fact we felt it is actually the best film we have seen on end time events. - Bill & Brenda Hicks??At first I thought it was going to be another routine message but as it progressed it became more and more impressive. The "There will be Tribulation" video describes the purpose and the sequence of events during the final seven years prior to the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. The linkage to many Old Testament prophecies clearly show the importance of the nation of Israel to this seven-year period. The pictures in the video document a world already full of tribulation- how terrible will be those seven years. Another 19.2% said corruption among decision-makers and the political class was the greatest threat, 14.8 percent said war with one of Israel's neighboring countries, 10.9% said an international boycott of the State of Israel and 4.9% said none of the the above or were unsure. ?Notably, some 43% of those defining themselves as religious said that the greatest threat was baseless hatred, meaning internal strife among the Jewish people, while 46% of haredi respondents said the same thing. ?The rabbis of the Talmud stated that the Second Temple was destroyed because of baseless hatred among the Jewish people at the time of the destruction in 70 CE, and this concept is frequently referenced by religious leaders during the three week period leading up to the Fast of Tisha B'Av as an admonition against repeating such mistakes in the modern State of Israel. ?Some 24% of those defining themselves as religiously traditional said that internal baseless hatred was the biggest threat to Israel along with 12.3% of secular people. ?The Iranian nuclear threat was the biggest concern for religiously traditional people, with 36.8% citing this danger as the most problematic, while the greatest danger perceived by secular people was corruption among political decision-makers, with 27.6% of secular respondents citing this concern as the gravest problem facing the country.? ?The survey also found that almost one third of Israelis fast on Tisha B'Av, with 27.5% percent of respondents saying they fast for religious reasons and another 4.2% saying they fast for personal or societal reasons.? Another 3.9% fast partially and 64.3% of those surveyed said they do not fast at all. ?Some 44% of respondents said correctly that Tisha B'Av marks the destruction of both the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem, while just under 50% said it marked the destruction of one of the ancient Jewish temples.Obama's Legacy and Tisha B'Av - Olivier Melnick - often say that the Jewish life cycle revolves around the Jewish calendar, its holy days and the foods we eat accordingly. There is even a a Jewish motto about it: "They tried to kill us, we won, let's eat!" But let us remember that on the Jewish calendar, outside of the biblically ordained Levitical feasts (Leviticus 23), there are several other dates marking some critical events in our history. One such date is Tisha B'Av or the ninth of the month of Av. This annual fast (lasting 25 hours in Jewish tradition) commemorates several tragedies that occurred in Jewish history. It is believed that on the ninth of Av:?* The 12 spies returned* The First Temple was destroyed* The Second Temple was destroyed* The 135 CE Bar Kochba revolt was put to an end by the Romans* The first Crusade started* Jews were expelled from England in 1290* Germany entered World War One* "The final Solution to the Jewish Question" was officially put in motion in 1941* Large scale deportation of Jews to Auschwitz and Treblinka started in 1942?Needless to say that this is a very somber date for Jewish people worldwide. This is a time when the Book of Lamentations is read in synagogues. Jewish people fast, do not bathe and do not have marital relations on this day.?This year, the ninth of Av falls on July 25 and I cannot help but think about the way that it might be remembered and added to the long list of catastrophes for the Jewish people.??We are in the midst of a global crisis with the Islamic Republic of Iran which is on the threshold of acquiring its own nuclear arsenal. The same Iran has recently and repeatedly vowed to destroy Israel and the United States.?Since 2008, President Obama's foreign policy has been less than spectacular. Like every previous president since 1948 and to no avail, he tried to make a positive contribution to the Middle East peace process. But it is clear that Mr. Obama has an obsession with Iran, and like the National Review aptly said it: "The Obama administration values a future relationship with Iran more than it values the historic relationship it has with Israel." President Obama's obsession with Iran might only be surpassed by his obsession for his own "messianic legacy"." In any case, both are tightly linked and they unfortunately are at the expense of Israel.?During Thursday Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, we heard Secretary of State John Kerry try to defend the current Iran nuclear agreement with the 5+1 super powers. Frankly, it is starting to feel more and more like another check will soon be added to the ominous list of Tisha B'Av tragedies. Especially in light of Mr. Kerry's answer when asked by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) about US loyalty in the eventuality of a unilateral Israeli strike to sabotage Iranian facilities. First, there was a foggy answer from Secretary of Energy, Ernest Moniz. Mr. Rubio reiterated his question to which he got a firm "No" from Mr. Moniz, stating that the US was not under any obligation to protect Iran. Immediately following, Mr Kerry chimed in and tried to sound as if the current administration was Israel's friend and that all would be good. He never gave a firm yes or no, but finished by saying: " ...I don't see any way possible that we would be in conflict with Israel with respect to what we might want to do there. I think we might have to wait until we get to that point."?The problem with that statement from Mr. Kerry is that it can be interpreted several different ways depending on what the audience wants to hear. When I hear the phrase with respect to what we might want to do there, I am left wondering if "what they might want to do" is bomb Iran in accord with Israel or help Iran to defend itself from an Israeli attack (cyber or military). Pick one, they both work! There is some wording on page 142 of the document drafted for the deal stipulating that the 5+1 would help Iran defend themselves against sabotage once the deal is approved. This would make me think that the US would lean towards helping Iran, and frankly, this wouldn't surprise me under the current administration.?Then there is the statement he closed with: "I think we might have to wait until we get to that point." which is even more frightening. If we truly have to wait for the eleventh hour when Israeli planes are in Iranian airspace or even later if possible, it is akin to asking people to wait until Hiroshima was detonated before deciding if it was the best option.?Israel, the United States and the rest of the free world cannot afford to wait and see because the more time we give the Islamic Republic of Iran to acquire the bomb the less time we will have to successfully respond. In other words if we wait much longer there might not be much left to see.?I continue to keep my trust in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and His unconditional love for Israel. But I must remain pragmatic in understanding that the highest human casualties in the history of mankind are yet to come.?Obama's legacy sure looks like it includes America's divorce from Israel. It sure feels like Tisha B'Av again but hang in there because Rosh Hashanah is just around the corner!???Watchman Warning: Redemption Of The Land - by Hal Lindsey - ?? On Monday, July 20th, "The 700 Club" began running installments of a documentary on Israel, hosted by Gordon Robertson, called "The Hope."? Installments will run daily through Friday, July 31st.? "The Hope" tells about the birth of modern Israel.? Gordon and his team have done an extraordinary job telling one of the great stories of the last two thousand years.? It reminds us again that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob keeps His word!? I have only seen parts of the series, so I can't vouch for all of it, but what I've seen has been factual, insightful, and moving.? CBN News has a long history of breaking down complex issues, and presenting them in a clear and accessible manner.? And they've hit this one out of the park.? It's true that Pat Robertson and I don't see eye-to-eye on some important doctrinal issues regarding the Second Coming.? In fact, just a couple of weeks ago he and a guest criticized me by name.? But that's okay.? I don't mind my name being associated with my teaching.? The Body of Christ needs honest criticism and discussion.? Despite our differences, Pat and I share a love for Israel, and we both marvel to see God's hand at work in history. Nothing shows that to this generation more clearly than the rebirth of Israel.? 1 Peter 3:15 admonishes each one of us to "always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you." [NKJV]? There are many ways of giving such a defense including personal testimony, an examination of the Bible's veracity, and the historical fact of Christ's resurrection.? But do you ever wish God would do something for our generation that is as bold and undeniable as the parting of the Red Sea?? He has!? The re-establishment of Israel as promised by God over 2500 years ago, is a miracle beyond calculating.? From the days of Moses, God warned the nation that its continued sin would cause Him to disperse them as a people to places all over the world.? For every other culture in history, such dispersal has been a death warrant.? But, miraculously, Jews became part of those various cultures without being assimilated into oblivion.? Then, after two millennia, came the nation. In performing that miracle, God used Christians, Jews, atheists, and others. He used people of goodwill and those with evil intent.? He used men as diverse as Harry Truman, Chaim Weizmann, and Adolf Hitler.? But make no mistake.? Israel is not their doing.? It is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes!? What a shame that so many Christians refuse to see modern Israel for the miracle that it is.? By doing that, they deny the obvious.? It's like seeing the Red Sea part, seeing the people walk across on dry ground, then saying, "That must have been some wind."? For Israel to exist today means that thousands of things had to happen in just the right way at just the right time.? But that's only part of the miracle.? This series of thousands of improbable things happened in accordance with promises God made to ancient prophets thousands of years ago.? Those same prophets told of a coming Messiah.? They said he would be born in Bethlehem to a virgin mother.? He would be rejected by His own people, betrayed for exactly thirty pieces of silver, condemned at trial, and cruelly mocked.? They described his crucifixion before crucifixion itself had been invented.? They said his captors would gamble for his clothes, that He would be buried like a criminal in a rich man's grave, and that He would rise from the dead.? They said He would be called "Almighty God."? Jesus perfectly fulfilled those prophecies and hundreds more. That fact cannot be explained in merely natural terms.? But Jesus has not yet fulfilled all prophecies regarding the Messiah.? Ancient scholars knew that the prophets had described only one man, but it sounded like two.? One would suffer and be rejected.? The other would come in triumph, bringing peace to the world.? ? In Jesus, we see the answer to the dilemma.? He came once to die for our sins.? But He's coming again to rule and reign.? To deny it is to call Him a liar because He talked at length about His second coming and the signs that would surround it.? The greatest of those signs is the re-establishment of the nation of Israel.? That happened in 1948.? In 1967, Israel retook Jerusalem as its eternal capital.? In other words, everything is happening as God said it would happen at the end of this age.? We're very close!??Your story's not finished yet - Greg Laurie - ??Pastor Greg Laurie has 2 biblical examples of mid-life turnarounds?Everyone likes a good story, and I think the best stories have a clear plot and a character we can relate to. For the story to connect, there also needs to be conflict and a resolution. Our hero or heroine vanquishes the enemy, and maybe there is even a surprise ending.?Sometimes filmmakers will do a test screening of their movie to get a reaction from an audience, and on more than one occasion, because of a negative reaction, they will rewrite the ending and reshoot it.?Each of us has a life and a story that is in play. The psalmist wrote, "We spend our years as a tale that is told" (Psalm 90:9 AMP). You may be at the beginning of your story, or you may be at the middle or end of it. But you are the featured character, the star of the film, if you will.?In the stories we all are living, there are unexpected twists and turns. Sometimes we wish we could reshoot the ending like Hollywood does, because we don't like the way the story is going.?I think of Joseph in the book of Genesis and how he must have felt mid-story when he was in prison. His story started out well. It was a fantastic beginning. But his jealous brothers turned on him and sold him as a slave. And the next thing Joseph knew, he was in an Egyptian prison after being falsely accused of rape. At this point Joseph must have thought, This is not going well. God, are you paying attention??Fast-forward to the end of the story. It turns out very well as Joseph was made the second-most powerful man in all of Egypt. Joseph had never read the book of Genesis. He didn't know the end of the story.?Look at Job mid-story, when all of those calamities came upon him. He lost his animals, his workers and, worst of all, his own children. He may have thought, This is the end of my life. This is the end of my story. But Job didn't know what was going on behind the scenes. He didn't know how his story would end.?Here is what we need to remember about our own stories. There is an author, and it is God. There is a script that was written by the Lord himself. We also need to remember that if we are followers of Christ, then our stories will end well.?The Bible gives us two powerful, interwoven stories that feature two people who could not have been more different. One was a broken, discouraged woman with a serious health problem. The other was a powerful man named Jairus whose daughter had suddenly fallen ill. And both needed the same thing: They needed Jesus to help them. Tragedy levels social topography. When a hardship or sickness comes along, it doesn't matter whether you're wealthy or poor.?In this story, the number 12 is an important one to remember. For 12 years, this woman had been in poor health. And for 12 years, Jairus' daughter had lived on this earth. The little girl had 12 years of relative happiness, while the sick woman had experienced 12 years of pain, rejection and tears. And in the same afternoon, both of their lives were dramatically changed.?Jairus fell at the feet of Jesus, pleading for his help. Then, as they headed back to Jairus' home, an interruption took place. As Jesus made His way through the crowd, he suddenly stopped and said, "Who touched My clothes?" (Mark 5:12 NKJV).?When the crowd parted, there stood the woman with her difficulties. But Jesus didn't want to rebuke her; He wanted to commend her. This was amazing faith. The woman had spent all of her money on doctors, and she had nothing left. Her condition was getting worse. And because her condition of bleeding constantly made her ceremonially unclean, she was isolated. She didn't have the comfort of friends in the synagogue, which was the spiritual and social center of the community. She knew that if she could only touch Jesus, she would be healed. And she was.?When time is of the essence, interruptions aren't welcome. Jairus easily could have said to her, "Excuse me, but I am the ruler of the synagogue. You are not. No cuts." He could have played his power card, but he didn't do that. Instead, Jairus waited patiently on the Lord as he dealt with this woman.?But then someone came with a message for Jairus: "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?" (verse 35). ?To hear the news that your child is dead is the worst thing a parent can ever hear. On two occasions I have been in the room with a father when the doctor told him his daughter had died. It was horrific. And when my wife and I heard the news that our son had died, there was no way to wrap our minds around that. It was as though our world had ended in that moment. It isn't even possible to imagine what that is like unless it has happened to you.?I love what Jesus did next. He turned to Jairus and said, "Do not be afraid; only believe" (verse 36). Unbelief is the thief that often robs us of what God wants to do in our lives. After sending the mourners out of the room, Jesus turned his attention to the little girl who was lying there and said, "Little girl, get up!" (Mark 5:41 NLT). And he brought the little girl back to life.?Can you imagine the joy in the heart of her father, Jairus, to see his daughter alive again? Things started out badly for Jairus and became even worse. But what appeared to be the worst day of his life ended up being the best day. God can turn things around like that.?Your story is not finished yet. Maybe you are at the midway point. Like Job or Joseph in their stories, things are not making sense to you right now. But your story is still unfolding. It is still being told. And God always finishes what he begins.??FROM THE HEART??IF YOU HAVE BEEN BLESSED THROUGH THIS MINISTRY, THEN WE ASK THAT YOU WOULD PLEASE REMEMBER PROPHECY UPDATE IN YOUR GIVING - WE ARE TRULY,?TRULY,?THANKFUL FOR YOUR SUPPORT??Prophecy Update has no corporate sponsors.
