Historically, large nonbreeding roosts of European starling (Kalmbach and Gabrielson 1921) and swallows (tree, bank, barn, cliff, and northern rough-winged) (Chapman 1900) were reported from the Meadowlands. Roosting congregations of starling, blackbirds, and swallows probably still occur in reed stands or groves of trees. ................
