Guidance Information
1 All knowledge and practice requirements must align with the policy and training manuals for RNZN, NZA, RNZAF and/or NZCF.
2 Training manual relevant to this unit standard include NZCF manual 153 (Leadership) and available upon request from New Zealand Cadet Forces.
3 Small group consists of between four and six cadet members.
4 Definitions
NZA is the New Zealand Army;
NZCF is the New Zealand Cadet Forces;
RNZN is the Royal New Zealand Navy;
RNZAF is the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
Outcomes and performance criteria
Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of leadership theory and NZCF leader responsibilities.
Performance criteria
1.1 Explain the different leadership styles in accordance with NZCF training manuals.
Range authoritative, consultative, participative, laissez faire.
1.2 Explain the different leadership approaches in accordance with NZCF training manuals.
Range situational, functional.
1.3 Describe the roles and responsibilities of NZCF leaders in accordance with NZCF training manuals.
Range NZCF Junior Non-Commissioned Officer, NZCF Senior Non-Commissioned Officer.
Outcome 2
Demonstrate leadership skills as part of an NZCF small group.
Range minimum of three tasks as the small group leader.
Performance criteria
2.1 Lead a small group on a specified task in accordance with NZCF training manuals.
Range plan, brief, allocate tasks
2.2 Reflect on own leadership skills demonstrated in 2.1 in terms of the performance of the task and future improvements.
