Lesson OutlineLevel This lesson is designed for the First Class but can be adapted for any class.Curriculum Linkage: Subject: LiteracyStrands: Reading, Writing, Oral Language Objectives: That all children will be enabled to enjoy the story ‘The Tiger who Came to Tea’That most children will be enabled to work together to cooperatively retell the story That some children will be enabled to work together to cooperatively create a different version of the Story Approach: Create interest in the story by telling the pupils that they are all going to read a story called ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ by Judith KerrAsk the pupils to consider what the story may be about?Key questions: What do you think the story will be about?What kind of story do you think it will be?Have you ever invited an animal to tea?DevelopmentUsing the ‘Tiger Who Came to tea’ app the story to the pupils. Project this story onto a whiteboard for the whole class to enjoy.Ask the pupils what they thought of the storySpend some time discussing the story, the characters and information contained in the story togetherExplain to the pupils that they will be working in different groups to do different activities related to the story. Group 1 – Tablet ActivityPupils will use the ‘Tiger Who came to tea app’ to read the story or have the story read to them. They will then work in pairs or groups (depending on how many tablets are available. The students will use the story creator element of the app to create their own story. Pupils can record their own voices narrating the story.Group 2 – Wall Story ActivityTeacher divides the story in to appropriate number of sections and assigns each pupil a section. Pupils discuss whether to retell the original story or to create a different version of the story. Once the pupils have decided, each pupil illustrates the section and writes the text for the section that he/she has been assigned. The text and pictures are hung as a story wall. Pupils may also use tablets or other recording devices to record their story into a shared resource.Group 3 – Encyclopaedia BritannicaPupils create a web-page/information sheet on a tiger/different types of wild animals. Group 4 – Worksheet ActivityPupils complete worksheet based on the story. Worksheet may be used as teacher led activity to facilitate discussion around the topic of visitors to our homes, different animals, emotions etcKey questions: What was this story about?Who was the main character?Who did we meet in the story?How do you think Sophie felt when she answered the door?Would you have felt the same?ConclusionDepending on time, nominate one or more pupil from each group to present their activity for this session.
