|Purpose of the role: |
|Our February Half Term Activity Programme for families is themed around dinosaurs, to link in with our special exhibition that|
|will be open over that time, Tyrannosaurs. The programme will include some interactive morning sessions for 2 – 5-year olds, |
|with the core programme in the afternoon offering a hands-on craft session called Recyclesaurus where families making a |
|‘pop-up’ dinosaur out of cardboard (the activity is designed to be as sustainable as possible). We will also have drop-in |
|Askasaurus sessions where families can ask questions to curators, with object handling through our Learning Enabler team. In |
|addition, there will be a trail which families can take away to explore our permanent dinosaur exhibits. On Saturday 15 Feb we|
|will host three shows by Teach Rex in the Auditorium – an educational show with a big T-Rex costume puppet. We are looking for|
|volunteers to help us welcome families and assist with activities where appropriate. |
|Main Duties and Activities: |
|Assisting with drop-in craft activity; welcoming families, explaining instructions and helping families create their cardboard|
|dinosaurs. |
|Helping on the doors of the auditorium for the Teach Rex show |
|Giving out and collecting evaluation forms |
|Encouraging families to take part in the dinosaur trail, explaining instructions (and potentially giving out stickers or |
|temporary tattoos) |
|Helping with set-up/tidy-up as necessary |
|Hours or Day(s) Required: |
|Time: 11:00-16:30 (there can be some flexibility with times) |
|Day(s): 1 day or more from Monday 10 – Saturday 15 February |
|Skills & Personal Qualities: |
|Friendly, enthusiastic and hands-on |
|Confident communicator with families and visitors of all ages |
|Punctual and reliable |
|Training of the Volunteer: |
|Full training will be provided on the day with any useful/preparatory notes sent out in advance by email. |
|Resources provided: Everything you need for tasks will be there on day. We will |
|provide you with a volunteer t-shirt and name sticker. Please bring a packed lunch and a water bottle that can be refilled. |
|Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. |
