DID YOU KNOW:

On Holy Saturday the Church waits at the Lord's tomb, meditates on His sufferings and death. During the day, the altar was left bare and the Eucharist was not celebrated. It was a day for praying and returning, for hoping and preparing. After dusk, the Church assembles to begin its solemn watch during the night when Christ passed over from death to life, a night of vigil called the "Mother of all Vigils," a night which recalls the four great nights of the early rabbis, namely the nights of the creation, the binding of Isaac upon the firewood, the Exodus, and the final liberation.

The Church assembled to begin its solemn watch during the night when Christ passed over from death to life. As the light of day fades away we turn our attention to the light of Christ. We gathered around a fire and reflected on Christ, the light of God's glory. And from this fire, we light the Paschal Candle representing the risen Christ - the source of light. From the light of this Paschal Candle, light spreads to the candles held by each member of the worshipping community.

An Easter Message from Tony Butel:

Hope! I have been discouraged lately at all the snow we have received.  Mostly it is because so many of the snows have happened on Fridays or on the weekends and have affected our Mass attendances, thus affecting our collections and our ability to pay our ongoing expenses. Couple the weather phenomenon with all the national news about our polarizing politics: tax reform, immigration issues, Russian investigation, building a wall or not, as well as the number of shootings in schools, and I realize my powerlessness to be able to majorly impact those issues.  Even more, I feel discouraged in even continuing to care about them. And then Holy Week arrived.  In reading from a prayer resource, Magnificat, I read the following:

R/ Have mercy on your people, Lord.

You were sent to bring glad tidings to the Lowly: make us humble of heart. R/

You were sent to free the captives: deliver us from sin and selfishness. R/

You were sent to open the eyes of the blind: let us see and know you as our Savior. R/

Oh yeah, my hope is based on God’s Divinity become human to minister to all of humanity’s needs. Do I trust God’s love for me enough to look for, listen for His guidance in my life?  Will I let God’s love shine in the darkness of my life to bring His healing love?

I want to thank all those who have helped plan, prepare and celebrate the Triduum.  Thank you to all those who helped clean and decorate our Church, those who participated in the bringing up the oils, those who had their feet washed and those who dressed the Eucharistic table on Holy Thursday. Thank you to our Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers who help make the liturgies special and flow smoothly.  A special thanks to our Music Ministers for helping us express beautifully the sentiments of each liturgy. And, of course, a special thank you to Fr. Kevin for leading us in the beautiful Triduum liturgies.

May you have a blessed Easter.

Tony
